This is the first episode of an engaging four-part series of the Youth Unmoderated Podcast 2024, recorded at the YouthConnekt Africa Summit 2024 in November in Kigali, Rwanda. Elie Bwira from the Democratic Republic of Congo and founder of SADEB SARL, an agribusiness focused on the sale of vegetables produced in urban intensive agriculture and Siny Samba from Senegal discuss entrepreneurship, agriculture, and Africa's potential to be a global leader in food security. Elie shares his journey in urban agriculture and the challenges of exporting within Africa, highlighting issues like taxation and insecurity. Siny talks about her company, Le Lionceau, which addresses malnutrition by producing infant nutrition from local, nutrient-rich crops, while emphasizing community involvement and circular economies.
Both entrepreneurs stress the importance of practical training, better government policies, and regional collaboration to overcome barriers such as limited infrastructure and export restrictions. They call for stronger win-win partnerships and a focus on innovative, youth-driven solutions to harness Africa's rich agricultural resources for sustainable development and economic growth.
