RAF Sleap Shropshire (re-edited) - WW2 Airfield filmed in 1987 & Photo's 1980

AF Sleap was opened Jan 15th 1943 but flying did not commence untill April when AW Whitley's from 81 OTU flew in from RAF Whitchurch Heath (Prees Heath). Two Whitley's crashed into the Watch Office one on August 26 another two weeks later both causing deaths & injuries. Jan 1st saw 38 Group take over with Horsa glider towing until 28 Dec 1945 when the station closed.The RAF eventually left in 1964, though it is still active with the Shropshire Aero Club.
