Yeah takes some preparation while filming and have to sort things out more in post but I liked this Also being able to skip to a certain area of the design going forward going to try to do my reviews like this..
Yeah I’m trying to hit more things in my reviews and with the chapters to make it easier for everyone to just skip to certain parts on what the boat does.
@@WadeHarrison Would I be incorrect in presuming the Gnar is better in shallower conditions and practicing in slower conditions? The RMX looks like it is more of a precision boat that likes to be carrying speed. Thanks.
The code still great design but the lack of speed and edges is what holds that one back. The RMX seems to excel in so many ways definitely worth a try if you get the chance.
I have paddled the puffer but have not do a full review on it because it’s so similar to the regular steeze i feel the steeze is slightly slower but planes out better then the RMX steeze is a big water machine and falls short on lower volume creeks this boat excelled on lower volume creeks
Dam that difficult to give a good answer I want to say the RMX because it will challenge you more but really might be a lot of kayak for a newbie the code is just so predictable and takes care of you in everything but dam I love this RMX so really you need to demo both of these if you can.
@@WadeHarrison Glad I read the comments. I was about to ask this same question. I live in Idaho 45 min from the South Fork Payette put in... North Fork terrifies me. I'm more of a Banks put in for now. There is not a LL dealer located in Idaho... not sure where I could go demo a RMX... watching this vid right after your Code vids.... I'm really liking how agile the RMX looks getting into those eddies..... I don't have any bad habits yet... maybe I should just get one and learn on it.
Thanks for posting this, really fun to watch. I've got one of these on order, but am struggling with 96 or 86. I'm about 5'10 and 180 as well. But I'm also a newer paddler that does have a half slice and a playboat. What do you think about the 96 for someone your size who is more of a beginner?
You want to try the 86 I had a 96 for couple weeks paddling and I can make it work and see a place for it but as a all round daily driver I suggest the 86 ot just seems to fit perfectly at my weight
Heck yeah! I’ve been super excited to hear your take on the boat. I’ve been in the alpha 90 for a few years which I really enjoyed creating but since moving to Idaho I’ve been wanting more edge. I’ve been debating the scorch, code or gnar (haven’t demoed the gnar yet). NF Payette is my usual run, but there are plenty of overnights. What do you think about this boat for the Idaho classics? Also I’m 195, so think the 96 would be better for me since the extra space/volume would be nice for multi days out here? Thanks for always getting me stoked on a new boat!
I heard you say this boat needs driven but does that mean it doesn't accelerate/get up to speed as easy? I got a Waka puffy steeze and love it accept you really gotta paddle to accelerate it. Is that the case for the RMX also?
Yes very similar to the puffy I was meaning you don’t want to lay back and float this design like say you would a Z3 or something you need to be aggressively paddling it to really maximize its potential
@@WadeHarrison okay, thanks! What would be your best recommendation for a boat that paddles similar to a Puffy but is a little zippier / is easier to accelerate? I was thinking Scorch? I was thinking Scorch because it isnt as wide of a boat. Trying to get an idea on what to demo.
Thanks for the review. You mention keeping a forward position in this boat. What were you feeling when you ended up in the back seat? Offline? Twitchy? Also, was the thigh indexing narrower than the medium or large Scorch? Cheers
I found the sweet spot was center to slightly back but not seat position as much as body transfer when paddling this you really want to be mindful of how your loading off drops. This is one those designs that will challenge your paddling skills. And what I noticed it would get offline to easy when back seat but when upright it put more hull in the water and seemed to correct it. And I will do a comparison to the scorch soon
Hi Wade, I sat in the RMX 86, the thigh positioning seemed much more comfortable. It was a bit lower but wider than the Alpha and much roomier than the Delta. If Liquid Logic wants the PNW to catch the fever, they would do well to put a demo at Next Adventure. Fortunately NA has a Gnarvana demo. Cheers
They have arrived and are on the floor at NA, that’s where I sat in one. Looks like they were able to stick to a sleek design but keep it roomy and comfortable. Your footage shows it get from edge to edge quick. Hoping to finding out how twitchy the initial stability is and how loose the tracking is before buying a Gnarvana. Cheers!
I am a big LL fan. Relatively new to Whitewater with only 1 year of class II/III in a Remix 59. So happy this new boat arrived before I went with a Code or Z3. Do you recommend this one over the Code for someone that is not an aggressive paddler (yet)?
I want to say yes the RMX will be the best bet because this boat will make you a better kayaker in the long run. And handle about everything really good. The code will take care of you better but doesn’t challenge you much you can kinda just sit back and blast through everything. There’s times I would want the code and times I think this is better. If your only paddling low volume manky creeks go code. If want something more well rounded and fast go RMX. But really need to demo both to see what you think they really are very different.
Thx so much! Just heard from LL…a smaller boat is coming! Marcelo told me a few months…which is ok by me since I am in Pennsylvania. At 5’3 and 130lbs it may be a better fit. But will demo in the different sizes and try the code too.

Do you think this 86 will be pretty big for the 140lb and below crowd? At 135-140 I definitely preferred the sizing of the 69 over the 59 with the original remix. I'm not really in the market as just picked up a new Billy Goat, but I would really like to try one at some point. I have a bit of a soft spot for Liquidlogic boats, I've had quite a few of them over the years. Love your reviews by the way, I was really looking forward to this one.
Yeah that’s down there my buddy Matt jumped in in and he 140 and it didn’t seem big at all like it was sized really well if you’re ok will paddling a slightly bigger boat you will be fine in the 86 I’m caught like right on the bottom of the 96 and feel great in the 86
It really fast it Smokes the code like nothing it’s the fastest river running creeker out today i would love to do a head to head with the scorch x because I saying it now I think it’s faster then that one also
I recently bought the 96 as my go-to creekboat and agree with your review 100%. It tracked much better than a Gnarvana, Machno, and Code. I only wish it tracked as well as my Nirvana, although the Nirvana is more of a river runner having so much edge. I feel safer running big drops in the RMX.
Very interested in this boat, would love to demo one, how does it compare to 96? I noticed you edge side aggressive, is there a reason for it, I do like a narrow bow and wide at hips. Hmm Venom RMX or Lime Phoenix
@@WadeHarrison Thx for the offer, Pedro, I mean Pete picked one up, I am hoping he can let me try his after he gets some runs in it, he got 86, I am thinking 96, at 200lbs with gear, like the Phoenix alot of boat at great price. LL website all RMX are out of stock!
Looks sweet I'd love to try one out! In regards to the tracking it seems like the chrecteristic of high rockered boats are that they are not generally the best tracking designs......would you agree?
Yup it’s a trade off and you can overcome that by going longer like the scorch X or rounded the hull out like the alphas I did not mind it because I’m use to planning hull boats I like using the edges I just noted that in the review so to let paddlers know this is not a hop in and just take care of you designs
@@WadeHarrison Im also a fan of some rocker but I know folks that really aren't sold on the high rockered boats. Many of them have slalom backgrounds. and prefer the speed of a less rockered boat.
@@eddyhopperluke yeah I get that this one really surprised me it’s low in the stern and has a great edge to hold in place in rapids it was really fun to paddle
High rocker definitely reduces tracking. But, the sidewalls also factor hugely. The Code, OG, Gnarvana, and RMX have flared sidewalls, letting water flow easily under the side of the boat. This allows the boat to spin off track easily but also be easily corrected and maneuvered. Conversely, the Scorch has very vertical sidewalls, not allowing water to flow under the side of the boat easily. Therefore, it tracks hard but is harder to correct (I’m told by Scorch ninjas they use the edges too steer).
