I was born in leath and only remember only some of this. I have been away for 40 years and I regret every day I have been away. Leith people are the best on the world.
Wonderful. Bella Snodgrass the newsagent! Our dog Peter went along for the paper every morning, he was famous. That’s where my brother and I got our comics, and sweeties after rationing.
Born in Lochend, 1938, knew Leith like the back of my hand. Also worked in the Gaiety Theatre in the Kirkgate. The old Kirkgate was fantastic, you didn't have to go to Edinburgh for anything, you could get whatever you wanted in the Kirkgate. From the bonds in Water Street, to the foot of the walk. Every conceivable shop. ❤❤❤
We lived in Elbe st in a house my dad was born in number 6a,remember the shop on the corner ,Laurie rylies pub, crawford biscuits what very happy memories
Fascinating video. Thank you. I like the split screen Morris (minor?) I also love that mums could leave their offspring in their prams in those days. Do we know when the photograph was taken ? I'll make a guess...1950 ? I've subscribed, keep 'em coming !
Grew up in and around my Granny Strachans house in Sheriff Brae, Watched the banana flats go up and the auld Kirkgate come down. Played in and around the tide, brilliant times. Auld May Stewart grannies neighbour used tae feed us fudge and tablet.
I remember the good going to Leith with my mum and dad God bless them both they were the good old time but now it's run down to many drunks and drugs it's a shame it's happening all over the place but there are lots of nice people in Leith area I have not had any problems with the pubs I keep myself to myself
people of certain age would not appreciate what these people are talking about. Mostly it's got do with working class and the poor. To have a connection you have to have some memories from those times, it was a experience to say the least. I'm Dublin Irish, we had the very same on this side of the pond. Poverty and class. 🇮🇪🤝🏴
Thank you for doing this video.. My Mother was born in Leith in 1923. I am have my grandmothers family tree done for my 65 birthday. 💝🙋♀️
Well done you, I know they can take a lot of time to create ❤ You're very lucky to have one, nigh on impossible to create mine.

Can't believe that woolworths and the chemist was there all that time ago.

Can anyone remember Scott Lyons the bakers at the foot of the walk? My Aunty Nancy worked there and I’d go in and she’d give me a donut, happy days!
