Anika Nilles has got to be one of the most "in tune" drummers alive. Her band (Nevell) is more than up to the task at hand, and once again, LBB have showcased a tremendous talent with superlative technical "know how" recording to boot! I can't wait to see her other videos, and then when the time comes, listen to it on vinyl!
what groove? in my ears they start with a little ternary feel, at 3:48 they switch to binary… no “groove” (no “pocket”) imho… certainly they can do better
@@sanderm4335 I'm referring to the performance as a whole, not only to Anika. If she's intentionally subverting the “groove” on the first part, fine - that's exactly what I'm hearing: no groove in the first part… 🙂
@@zeyadelkhadem6232 Just standard prog line, so guess we all hear different things. If you come in to prog with a funk mindset then i can understand why you dont see a groove, but this is exelent for the genre in my opinion.
@@sanderm4335 I have no idea, what “a funk mindset” implicates to you (useless to discuss this anyway). If you feel a groove in the first part, congratulations. I don't.
Play an instrument your whole life and some whipper snapper comes along. A whole new pallette of sounds, tunings, placements, techniques, rudiments, skill sets, inspirations. And you scratch head and think glad I am around to see this, somethings in the world are for the better.
Just one word. BRILLIANT! Most complex, satisfying drumming by Anika!
The way Anika subverts the groove on the first half of the tune is genius. So much tension. Love it.
Very satisfying
