Thank you for this video, it was really helpful. I’m just nervous to apply because my stats aren’t the best and I believe I don’t seem fit to be considered a “competitor” at some selective schools such as a UC. I was pretty lost throughout high school and filled with anxiety, which prevented me from trying things that would benefit me in the long run. I don’t know if I’ll still try to apply. I was thinking of maybe doing community college then applying as a transfer to a UC to make sure I am more prepared for college (plus I wouldn’t have to be in debt) but I feel like that’s harder, especially if my major is extremely competitive. I hope I can figure my way through soon because I have spent many sleepless nights and I had many mental breakdowns just thinking about college :(. I feel like the college I get accepted into defines my entire worth, which I know is not true, but it’s hard to think that way.
Hi there, all you can do is give it a shot and see what the outcome is. On the other hand, community college is a great alternative pathway to UC that many students are successful with. I personally went the CC route after graduating high school with a ~3.2 GPA and things worked out for me. I have a lot of videos on this topic, that could be useful for you, check them out!
1 year later, hope you doing well ggukie. I relate to your comment, I didn't have the best time in highschool and ended up going to De Anza. 3 years will have gone by the time since then and I hopefully transfer in 2023, but there are still areas where I am not good at which will be bad when I transfer Even then, what has happened has happened, but we must fully live in the present. Try every day, so that in the future we can say "I tried my best".
@@General_P2001 No way, you go to De Anza? I completely forgot that I made a comment on this post, so thank you for bringing me back here. I decided after all to go to community college, and I currently am attending at De Anza! It was a good decision on my part I believe. You’re also right, all we can really do is live in the present and try our best to succeed. I hope transferring goes well for you! We got this :)
@@ggukiescave yayyy :D yeah I didn’t really know how you were doing rn, but im happy of how it turned out. I’m proud of you. Hope your transferring goes well as well friend, sky is the limit
I did my UC apps last minute because I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to do it. My sister called me on the night they were due and all I had left to do were my personal insight questions. With under 2 hours to do them all I felt confident with the 3 that I got to pick but very very disappointed with the 1 required question. I left it til the end and I had only about 5 minutes to turn it in so I only wrote about 3 sentences. To anyone reading this don’t make this same mistake. I cried right after because I realized how bad of a mistake it was to leave it to the last minute. We’ll see what happens but I am confident that I will be getting rejection letters from the 4 I chose. Better luck next year I guess.
Hey Hailey, could you help me out on this? for essay prompt #2 im writing about my thinking process for digital art (my creative skill) while for essay prompt #3 im writing about speaking w/ clients, negotiating, my business which is also based on digital art. would this count as talking about the same topic twice? specifically, for prompt #2 i talk about how my mindset for art wasn't "right" and that i had changed over time for prompt #3, i talk about how i sold my art/digital products online and worked w/ clients, expanded my business, etc. though they're technically different topics with completely different content, i'm not sure where the line is drawn thanks!
Great video hailey, I have 4 W’s on my record. I had to drop due to an emergency situation. Would this deter chances of getting accepted to a UC college, especially UCLA(I’m a California resident currently attending a CC) Also my Gpa is about ~3.7
Hi there, sorry but I am not able to advise on your chances of getting into a school as I do not work for the admissions committee. The only way to know is to apply and see what happens. Make sure you explain all that on your application, though. Good luck!
Is it bad if you don’t use up all of the word count. Like what if you have like 50-100 words left? Does it ruin your chances? When you wrote your application did you use all of your word count.
Hi there, since there are only 350 words to begin with, this is a pretty significant amount of words that would be left out. I suggest reevaluating your essays to see where you could additional insight. I cannot speak to chances of getting into a school as I do not work for the admissions committee of any school. However, this is your one and only opportunity to explain yourself - do not underestimate its power. I used all of the word count give or take ~5 words.
I would advise against this. You are probably not the same person you were when you wrote those essays so you should write new essays that reflect what you have learned since then.
@@orlandoolague9292 Sorry for the late response! I think in that context that would be fine. Grammatically, it makes more sense to just use consistent pronouns, however. You're saying what creativity means to you personally, so don't apply it to others.
This is one of the only vids about this that I’ve come across that is actually helpful and doesn’t leave me feeling terrified to start 😭🙌🙌
Good luck!
i’m a senior in high school right now and i have 2/4 essays done

Hi there, if they are different topics and discuss different things then there shouldn't be a problem.

how did this go, I have the exact same situation
I’m a junior and I already got a UC Santa Cruz admission.
What’s an admission? I’m confused because I’m a Junior not a Senior
Hi there! I'm not really sure what you are asking?
Hailey Dollar admissions for UCs
What are admissions?
Do you know what they are?
Are you referring to a letter of admission? I am still unclear. You may want to contact the school directly about the correspondence you received.
Hailey Dollar yes letter of admission! Sorry I’m new with this sort of thing so yeah
I'm currently at West Valley College here in Saratoga.
nice! small world
hi! i was just wondering if i can use contractions (ex. I’m, I’ve, would’ve, etc) in these essays? since it’s informal and saves word counts?
You should always avoid contractions whenever you're writing anything for school.
is narrative style good, cause i literally put in a bit of narrative in it and someone said that they like their essays straightforward 😨
Hi Julia, it's your essay so you can do as you please!
Hi! Do you still offer editing services? For freshman applicants? Thanks :)
Unfortunately, I am no longer editing essays. Wishing you the best of luck!

Can I/Should I use words like "you" or "your"?
who would you be referring to?
