Ska was making a big come back through youth culture in the UK in the late 70s, 80s. Groups like Madness, The Specials, would capitalize on creating their own club version of Jamaican ska and Reggae. This was obviously a spoof of this subculture, mods, skinheads, who'd listen to Madness, 2-tone groups, like Selectar, Buster Blood-Vessel. This spoof is spot on - circus music.
I heard this on Dr. Demento years ago and managed to record it off the radio. I never knew it was NTNON, and I CERTAINLY didn't know it was Rowan singing. Thanks for answering an ancient mystery.
I particularly love that one of them is just casually jumping on a trampoline at the back. Also, why do I keep thinking this is a 90's sketch, despite it clearly being a contemporary satire of 2 Tone (late 70's/early 80's)?

not really since if they didn't they would not have had enough time to do the full length song. If they had tried to separate them you would have gotten maybe 30 seconds of one verse and a chorus and that's it.

It is not like they could move a different more traditional sketch to play over the credits so they would either have to cut 2-3 minutes of other sketches or compressed the song. Why would they do that if they can simply play it at the end where they cannot put something like the Monty Python worshipers sketch.
@@joerobinson5603 You are totally missing my point. I'm not talking about the logistics. This and other above average songs in the show are too good to have the credits spoil them. If you are saying it is impossible to have the show without the songs at the end then you are a fool

I am saying there were very good reasons for them to put the song at the end of the show over the credits and very few reasons to cut other content just so that 40 years later the pirated video for the primarily audio-centric comedy does not have words over it. You can say you would like one without words or that it would be better without them but it was not a bad decision given the time, place and medium they were creating it for.

I think you are expecting to find a bit too much. I believe this is just a parody of ska music which was big during this time. If there is any inspiration for it bandwise I'll say Bad Manners.

The tragedy is that this is 40 years old but it’s still way funnier than anything on TV today.
