An excellent video. Hello from the Tracy Mountain Railway in Colorado, where we still run a Lionel HO GP-9, along with a rebuilt caboose, which was involved in a wreck, but still proudly proclaims "Bit by Lionel" on the side. The Geep is a great runner, and is used for freight and passager duties, as well as pushing the snowplow and flanger when it snows outside. I bought it brand new, way back when, for the princely sum of $24.99 plus tax. That amount would have gooten me two athearn F-7 units, a powered A and a dummy B, and Two streamline
I wonder if Lionel can make some other HO Trains in Lionel like a 4-4-2 and 4-6-4 Hiawatha or a NYC Hudson, Blue Comet, Big Boy, Challenger or the Santa Fe F3 Diesel?
Isn't it werid that lionel reuses some locomotives cause that locomotive model is a N1 berkshire (which is the polar Express one) cause NYC aka New York central never had N1 berkshires
One of the railroads that had these locomotives, (P&LE? PM?) was a subsidiary of the NYC, so you could see them on the NYC system occasionally. Edit: The locomotives had a small NYC system oval on the sides, but unfortunately were not lettered for the New York Central. 💙 T.E.N.
the one thing that bugs me about this NYC model, is that it has a Worthington SA Feedwater Heater. While the New York Central's subsidiaries, Pittsburgh & Lake Erie and Boston & Albany did have berkshires, they never had those Worthington Feedwater Heaters. even though this engine is numbered in the B&A1400 series, those berks had an Elasco Bundle type feedwater heater that hung over the edge of the smokebox.
That's because this is a Pere Marquette N-1 rebadged as an NYC loco. It's like how Bachmann's "Niagara" is really a Union Pacific FEF-1 with a Niagara's smoke deflectors and a pedestal tender.

I made the right choice by getting the Geep, as it was the only one available, and it runs great with my Athearn F units and matching passenger train. P.S. A superb train set. 💙 T.E.N.
That train is familiar this train is called Pere Marquette 1223 N-1 class Berkshire 2-8-4 but this train has a wheel arrangement of 2-8-4 instead of 4-6-4 because all steam engines in New York central is the only streamlined j3a Hudson and all steam engines is non-streamline 4-6-4 engines

Lionel “we need more Ho scale trains” Worker 1 “why not we just design new ones” Worker 2 “let’s just use the polar express models and not be creative” Lionel “worker 2 I am giving you a raise. Worker 1 your fired”
Why shouldn't they use those models? The engine is a real kind of engine (a Pere Marquette Class N-1 2-8-4) and the coaches are real coaches (the Pullman heavyweights used by basically *all* major railroads in the USA for much of the interwar period and to a lesser extent afterward, albeit modeled in a selectively compressed form to fit on compact layouts); this is just making them without the made-up roadname and color scheme.
* You really should have smoothed out the rumple in the tablecloth. * Looks like Lionel's track at this scale isn't particularly good at countering rumpled/uneven surfaces as, say, E-Z Track is. * The set looks neat, although either the loco isn't particularly optimized for DC running or the redesigned Bachmann speed controller has an excessive deadzone. * Not going to bitch about them reusing the Polar Express set, for two reasons: 1. The Polar Express set was based on real stock anyway (and the coaches in particular were generics IRL), and 2. This is obviously a pilot product.
Oh goody!!!11!!!1 It is a re-colored polar express train set! Don't we just love seeing multi-million dollar companies reusing their existing products just re-coloring them?!?
Considering that the Polar Express set was a real type of engine and real types of generic coaches (the ubiquitous Pullman Standard heavyweights used by LITERALLY EVERY MAJOR US RAILROAD during and after the interwar period), just given a made-up roadname and livery, the only cheesy thing going on is that they're passing of a Pere Marquette engine as a New York Central engine (most likely because Lionel wanted to go with the railroad they're most strongly associated with). Model companies do that kind of thing all the time (looking at *you,* Bachmann's NYC Niagara).

The 2-8-4 N-1
The 2-8-4 S-2
