Thank you for posting this! I'm a new DS40 user (bought second hand) and don't have an instruction manual. The ribbon got caught and tore, and I thought I'd have to replace the whole thing (and the paper, as is required). Admittedly I doubted taping it together would work, but it was simple and immediately fixed it! Thanks for saving me $$$ by not panic-replacing the entire thing. :)
