  • This is the next stage of my beginners journey. I have finally finished the body decals. I would say that the body painting and decals has taken approximately 18 - 20 hours (not including paint drying and curing time). I have really enjoyed the relaxation of this stage of the build.
On to the next stages, LED's and the cockpit set (if I can get hold of one) as at the moment stocks of the 54491 Rally cockpit set seem to be on back order.
The hints and tips of the guys on tube have truly helped with my approach to the bodywork and decals. Thank you fellow Tamiya builders. (Nanni RC, Mark Bryan, Pete Wylie, Rob Brennan).

Hi Mike and thank you for watching my first Tamiya, after returning to the hobby, after a 30+ years of absence. I suppose, doing a rally RC as a first Tamiya back, may have been perhaps not the best starting point, but me being a Taurean and stubborn as hell, I was determined to have it. 😉😊😉 take care and best wishes to you and the family 😊😉😊

Hi there and thank you for watching. Just love the rally cars, they always look mean. This was my first Tamiya back into the hobby after 34 years of being away from this great hobby. Take care and best wishes 😊😉😊

Well. Took mine out for its first run last week. Glad i wasn't too precious about the paint and stickers! Rolled it, crashed it. A lot. Scuffed the stickers all round and split the shell on the nsf. Great fun though. Found the tyres came off on tarmac as i hadn't glued them on and the standard shockers are rubbish. So new shocks are to be ordered and the tyres have been glued. Onwards and upwards!

Excellent, well done. Glad you've had some fun, that is what it is all about. If it helps, I have installed Tamiya CVA super mini shock set 54753. I have been busy building the LEDs from scratch. I've found a MOSFET RC switch unit to control the LEDs from the 3rd channel, so been sorting that out too. I will try and do a shirt video shortly to show where I'm at. The initial test of the cars functions are all good. Keep well, keep safe.

Looks amazing John, well done. Stickering mine up as i type. Its hell! I cocked up the black on the grill, used non lexen paint and it reacted with the white😣😣

Thank you. Decals take ages to do, the advice I can give is take your time cutting the out and take your time lining them up. Keep at it, you'll get there

@@JF-RC Cheers John. Didn't realise they had to be cut out! Its going fine now, found the first ones are a baptism of fire, the rest are far easier. Treating this as a practice as I'm going to buy a second shell for display. Found your vlogs very inspirational, thanks fella😎

Wow it looks fantastic John. Really great work. Look forward to seeing it with the LEDs. Be a shame to scuff this up!

Hi Pete, hope you're well. Yes, I've thought that too, many hours getting this to look right. Be hey....fun is the name of the game, I suppose I'll have to hope that my previous driving skills aren't rusty!. I've done the LED's they're installed in the car, I went the homemade route for the LEDs. My short video, sould be available to view. I've been waiting for the cockpit to arrive, the guys are Time Tunnel Models have managed to back order one. Just so happens, that it was delivered yesterday, so hopefully I can finish routing the LED cabling, once i know how the cockpit positions inside the bodywork, then on to the cockpit....looks like a lot of hours to do that cockpit too.😉🙂

Wow ... great job! Looks very nice! How did you get the decals that flat to the body? I get lot of folds and bubbles especially on the curvy parts. Any tip how to make it perfect like you? Video on this would be great.

Hi there and thank you for watching. This was my first ever car, coming back into the hobby after 30+ years out of the hobby. This rally style RC is really very tricky. If there is any tip I could give, that would be to ensure that you cut the decals very close to the lines. Leave the backing on the decal and only remove a small portion at a time, so that you and easily position the decal. Use a little bit of heat from a hair dryer to help the decals around tight curves. You could use a little sprinkle of window cleaner, position the decal and then squeeze out the liquid and let it evaporate, this works too for some, but I tend to use the backing in place method and a hair dryer method. But most of all, take your time, allow at least 1 week for the decals. Take care and best wishes 😉😊😉
