The hilariously bad packaging of these movies had us accidently watch the sequel first. Now we're finally watching the better of these flicks with Assault on Devil's Island. With a bigger budget, freed Tweeds, and Billy Blanks, this movie is way better than the first. Or second. Or whatever.

My favorite parts in this are split between Carl Weathers and Trevor Goddard from Carl talking about being long line of military tradition and Trevor Goddard being his normal villain style can't believe both one of my favorite action heroes and one of my favorite action villains are no more Trevor Goddard it has been a few years
Couldn't have been a better on theme tribute than for him to just be awesome in a great bad movie. Perfect for a little gem I'd never heard of.

It's crazy that both, Hulk Hogan and SHI*FU**, show the range of quality of John Travolta's wigs.
22:37 Carl's entire part in this movie is do the "cool" fist bump with Hogan and then pull out the bigger, cooler guns and use them. He got the minigun and now the bazooka. Carl is the star of this movie, followed closely by the Tweeds, the pyro guy and whoever did Hogan's wig.
And then Hogan after he's wig 😂

The guy from Mortal Kombat is named Trevor Goddard, and you should definitely check out Men of War with Dolph Lundgren. Goddard plays a great scenery-chewing villain in that one.
I can only think of two things I've seen him in and he was great in an over-the-top way. Will definitely check out Men of War.

The prison at the end they are fighting in is actually the Dry Tortugas National Park. It's accessible by ferry or seaplane from Key West, FL. That whole fight sequence takes place in the remnants of Fort Jefferson. It's a really great day-trip and snorkeling/vacation spot.
To answer Erin's question about the camo that was used in Vietnam by the South Vietnamese called Tiger Stripe camo the US Special Forces thought it was so cool and better suited than the US camo used at the time so they adopted it.
I kept waiting for you to recognize Martin Kove aka John Kreese from the Karate Kid, aka ahole from Rambo: First Blood part 2. Other than that I agree SBIG.

@@JasonBrant I’m getting there, it’s really just a wait and see thing as I take meds for the pain. I have sickle cell anemia so I’m constantly in and out of the hospital. This time around I’m trying ketamine to help reduce pain over a long period of time and just discovered that having hallucinations of my cat jumping in my hospital bed are a “normal” thing at this stage as my body becomes accustomed to the drug. It’s wild AF! lol

2:48 That guy was Trevor Goddard (RIP), who is better known as Kano in the first MK movie, as you said. Fun fact: Kano was supposed to be Asian-American until Ed Boon saw the movie, he liked Goddard's portrayal so much that he made Kano Australian in the games. He also appeared as the main villain in Men of War, starring Dolph Lundgren, you should feature that one someday, it's a fun movie.
Trevor was amazing and I was such a huge fan.

I remember watching this film on TNT during the distant yesteryears of the 1990's.
I watched WCW religiously as a teenager. Both the wrestling promotion and their network advertised the hell out of this film, and the Hulkster never failed to deliver with the cheese and camp. Fond memories, here!

Both this and the sequel were made for TV movies on TNT back when WCW was still a thing. Saw both of them when they aired and they were pretty entertaining for the most part. And yes, the release the Tweeds footage was shot for the video release to make it R rated versus the TNT TV cut.
I had the biggest crush on Shannon Tweeds daughter when she and Gene Simmons they had their family reality show in the early 2000s. She’s still gorgeous but even in 2024 Shannon Tweed is still a goddamn beautiful woman! Sweet baby Gebus!🥰😍

I met the Hulkster at a Steppenwolf show in a night club. I turned around and his 24in python was as big as my face. I'm 6'2" and he was HUGE. Very nice guy and chatted with everyone, esp. the ladies.
It was a World premiere on TNT, but they also did a video release to show the Tweeds.
Erin sounds like she's been crawling through the desert for a week and Billy Blanks is a cold, crisp water fountain. As far as calibers. I'd say that the tweeds exceed standard calibers and even anti-material calibers. Maybe the 37mm anti-tank shell?

I believe that is tiger stripe camo. It was developed by US Special forces during the Vietnam war for dense jungle fighting. It is still sometimes used by special forces and has been used by many nations. There was a ton of this left over in the 1980. It was also very popular and there are several companies that made knock off of it.
I kind of did the same thing when I heard Carl Weathers died. I rewatched his 90's tv show Street Justice in tribute.
Fun Fact: Hulk Hogan actually wound up face to face with a shark in this one due to shooting those underwater scenes with actual sharks in the water with him.

Trevor Goddard not playing a villain is an impossible challenge.
I like Jason's reference to Billy Drago as the guy that got shot in the dick in, "Invasion USA." Instead of his memorable role as Capone's very creepy and scary hit man in, "The Untouchables."
The bad guy was in The Untouchables as the evil hitman. He stared along side Kevin Costner, Sean Connery, Robert Deniro and Andy Garcia in an Oscar winning film. In this one he got to feel up Shannon's Tweed's and have her ride him. Good to see that his career moved up after The Untouchables.

I'll say the same thing I said about the other one. This feels like it started out as a reboot of the A-Team that didn't get off the ground, so they rewrote it for Hulk & co.
