  • A fantastic 2023 British Grasstrack Championships held at Dig Dog Lane by the GTSA club. Some of the best action seen all season in the race for the British titles. In the 250cc Solo's, Henry Atkins is back again to try to win his 5th British Championship, but he will surely be hard pressed by Rob Mear along with some of the fresh crop of youngsters who have burst onto the adult racing this season. Charlie Wood, Hayden Watts, Austin Riches, and Jordan Derrick to name just a few. Luke Harris really wants to win this British title, and former British Champions Graham Thomas and David Knowles will be no pushovers. A cracking line-up in this class, which could prove the most competitive of the day.
The long awaited clash in the 350cc Solo class, with an unresolved title from 2022, where the British title was shared between Paul Hurry and Paul Cooper. They both come here with a great chance of taking the title, but young Cameron Taylor could possibly scupper both of their claims to the title. Cameron has been absolutely flying this season and looks to have a great chance. Cherley Powell is also in the 350cc class, and it's his first time on a 350cc machine, so how will he take to it after riding 500's all the time. He could be a real spoiler.
The 500cc Sidecars in reality looks like being between old rivals Josh Goodwin/Liam Brown, and Mitch Godden/Paul Smith. Both who race more in Europe than the UK, but both will be going all out to take this years British title. With some improving crews in this class, the fight for 3rd position should be interesting. Simon Field/Shane Freeman, James Hogg/Scott Goodwin, Paul Whitelam/Richard Webb, and Jordan Smith/Joe Page all look like they could take the 3rd place behind the top two.
Surprise winners in 2022 Michael & Tim Phillips return in the LH Sidecar class to defend their crown, but this class is absolutely wide open, so it could be any 1 of 9 top crews who end up taking the British title. Former Champions Rob Heath/Kyle Fish are back again, and have dominated the LH Sidecars this season. Josh Penfold/Dan Woodbridge, Tommy Penfold/Will Naden, Joe & Jordan Holland, Danny Hill/Adrian North, , Alex Balman/Mark Hopkins, and Martin Cuff/Colin Clark on their 600cc GM machine all have a great chance of taking the crown. There has been so much great racing in this class, it really could be anyone's.
Having a support class of 1000cc RH Sidecars will always help put spectator numbers up, and they certainly didn't disappoint. With Mark Cossar/Carl Blyth always the crew to beat, the final had the crowd going absolutely nuts with excitement, and what a race it was. Right out of the top draw, this is why this class is so popular. So sit back and enjoy 4 & 1/4 hours of fabulous entertainment.
