Feeding a steady stream of water to these hole boring machines would go a long way to: 1) keeping the noise level down, 2) remove most of the hazardous dust from being inhaled by workers or settling on nearby cars, 3) improve the speed of the hole cut, and 4) substantially remove damage to the drill teeth. Speaking from experience.
Germans work extremely fast, when they build a whole housing complex, it merely takes a a month or less, and the work is clean/professional and stunning and the best part is that you only see a handful of people. In the US it takes years. When shopping in Germany you don't have to wait 20 minutes at the shopping isle waiting to pay, thing are done "blitz artig" super fast. You come here to Walmart or any other shopping centers and you wait 30 minutes to pay, i had to get accustomed to this slow lifestyle. And then if you are employed by a company here in the US and you have the German work ethic and finish things fast, your coworkers will hate you, they'll say "you think you're better". The worst part of all is that they'll let you do all the work (a 4 man job) by yourself while they're out in the break room chattering. But you guys are amazing at engineering. Germans and chinese are on a different level when it comes to working. I admire German products they are built to last. I once had a few tshirts and they lasted for over a decade. I mean i always say if you want good and professional work done with speed call a German.

The Insta-Cement 5000 is extra impressive. The way it mixes all the dry material with no water at all is pretty nifty. Seems like it would squeal like a million nails on a million chalkboards - but it doesn't.
In the shitthole of Michigan they don't use levels or tape measures. 2 inches above the road level or two inches below is good enough for a manhole. They give us rumble strips.
And then they patch the highway instead of redoing it, and it doesn’t last and they have to do it again in five years. I know. I live right next along the I69 corridor.
Lol that job with the auger bucket... you might as well have ordered a load from the plant by the time you mix all those bucket fulls and add the cost of a bucket you can only use to mix cement.

Someone needs to show this to the state of Maryland so maybe they will realize that manholes can be smooth to drive over, not feel like you car is falling apart when you hit one
Over time the man hole cover wears so the edges of the cover and the ring are no longer square but rounded , think soup bowl shaped, when a vehicle hits one of those it can cause the cover to flip up and off the ring. The wheel of the car can go in the hole and the cover can end up coming through the floor of the car. So they have to be replaced from time to time depending on traffic. Those hole saws work well on perfect pavement but if you have any cracks it tears the road up.
I remember that DuPont made a membrane that was laid prior to the asphalt or concrete topping that prevented potholes for easily 20 years. This was during the 1980's when they still kinda cared about infrastructure (in the US). From what I gather, the main reason it wasn't used was due to costs, It appears that patching a hole every 6 months is more affordable than fixing the actual problem. Lol
I gather that the membrane (most likely an EPDM of sorts) helps prevents the erosion due to the freeze/thaw of the road. If there isn't a suitable substrate, then nothing would work. As for rebar, it creates more of a puncture risk after deterioration of the road occurs. I can attest for that with bridges and such where I'm located and the wear it causes. There too, each geological region and situation is different and not all theories could apply...
I'm sure that each region has a theory of having proper drainage/substrate/etc. I'm sure that the problem is $$$. I can understand why they would only pay $1m/mile vs $10m, especially in cities that can barely afford basic upkeep. I will say this tho, I'm only speaking of potholes and road wear, not the "underlying" (no pun intended) problems: Streets made of brick (in which I'm very used to and which have been in place for over 100 years in my neck of the woods, never show signs of potholes or extensive damage. Granted, they aren't suitable for highway use but as neighborhood roads and the like, I'd rather see those in place.
