    Welcome to My Channel!
I am Rachael Martin, a twenty-something obsessed with traveling the world and taking pictures of everything! In September of 2021, I quit my job in retail after working at the same place for six years. It was just not what I wanted my life to be. In October, I set out on my first solo trip, overcoming fears and social anxiety that had bogged me down for years.
I have created this TH-cam channel to share my travel vlogs and tips. Hit subscribe and come along on the journey! Thank you!

The reminder to bring an eye glass case was simple and brilliant.

Sometimes trains can be loud. Earplugs are cheap. You might not need them, but if you do, you'll be glad you have a couple in your carry-on.
If you are traveling overnight in coach, bring and wear some comfortable clothes to sleep in. You don't have to go as far as wearing jammies, but sweatpants and t-shirt are a lot more comfortable to sleep in than jeans and a polo. Superliner coaches have a big bathroom downstairs labeled "changing room" you can . . . well . . . change in.

I find Trader Joe's sandwiches to be perfect for travel! Their packaging is good and their food is pretty healthy and tasty!

Some food I would recommend a long Amtrak trip would be Carrots & Hummus cups. I would also try to bring some fruit such as apples, oranges, or bananas, since they can last a few days without refrigeration. Another thing I brought was a loaf of bread and jelly to go with the peanut butter (be sure to bring a spoon or a butter knife). Finally, I would suggest some juice boxes, if you want to switch it up from simple water all the time.

I tried bringing bananas as a snack on a train in Denmark years ago, and they got all brown and mushy by the time I was ready to eat them. Apples and oranges would probably keep better as travel snacks, though.

@@DOSBoxMom That is possible. I tend to buy my bananas when they are still slightly green, so they take a few days to ripen before they start turning brown.

Thank you for the journaling suggestion. What a great idea! I love taking pictures on my trips but having the journal to go with them would be great. Thank you!

really like the part about the audio book. was making a checklist and it didn't cross my mind to check-out a book-on-cd from the library.

I've heard elsewhere that there are places where you can refill water bottles on the train, and that one should use those instead of the restroom sinks to get water, as the bathroom-sink water isn't as pure & nice-tasting.

Yes, Amtrak has little water fill up stations. My water bottle is so big, it barely fit in the nook! :)

Thank you for the tips. I have my first trip coming up in winter. I will be bringing my homemade flatbread (msemen) and cookies that I make with no milk and no egg. I will also bring costco turkey jerky. They taste good with the flatbread topped with honey. The extra snacks are pistachios, natures bakery bars, tea, stevia and honey packets, and individuals protein powder packets). I plan to share the natures bakery bars with my neighbors in case the food car is closed.

I suggest packing tissues. You can blow your nose if necessary, or wipe your necessaries after using the restroom. Plenty of times I've encountered empty or waterlogged toilet paper rolls.
