      The low ceilings in those tiny houses are usually to comply with road regulations, if your home isn't on wheels there's no need to have such low ceilings.

      Your comment is of course what is humane. We could even build houses out of garbage if we had to with volunteers. Garbage meaning recyclables. Have you seen the glass bottle house or the two ltr bottle house. Filling those bottles with dirt or sand made them strong as or not even stronger than bricks and plastic doesn't biodegrade. Just saying there was a way.

      Most of those homeless would not take care of these houses. It would create another problem. They would have trash strewn around and they wouldn't care. I've seen what section 8 has done to neighborhoods.

    I would recommend installing a sliding door for the bathroom that would be placed next to the fridge rather than in the kitchen wall, that way you don't feel like your bathroom is in the kitchen. Moreover, it will create even more shelving space in the kitchen.

      @ME you're also not living as a hermit, so stands to reason at some point whoever lives there will have the occasional guest or two. I don't like the bathroom where it is either. My first thought was that of bathroom smells wafting into the kitchen area. Whether you're living alone or with someone, no one likes that.

    • @RachelLWolfe
      @RachelLWolfe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      @@scottward1002 the primary purpose of the exhaust fan is to remove the moisture/humidity caused by showers. It does not remove all odors, and it certainly isn't instant. Ask any mechanical engineer or contractor. Also if it's an inexpensive contractor grade exhaust fan you're not going to get the desired result. For me, I just wouldn't have a bathroom anywhere near my kitchen. Period.

Add more light with transom above patio door. Put deck on front and around left and small sliding door beside table. Footprint isn't any bigger but it would feel that way.

      We tried that but it doesn't work. The best is to put one smaller home among every 10 new homes in nice suburbs. You have to design the home so it fits in, but that's the least of worries. Homelss people are from many backgrounds and a vetting process was necessary to make sure the person was suitable fit for the neighborhood they were being offered a home in.
      We actually had to teach them about basic home responsibilities as no one wants a junk pile next to them in a year or so. A hard issue to solve.
      Another solution was very small structures, as big as a kids cubby house basically, sturdy, with a bed, chair, no cooking gear, no bathroom. It was a first step in getting the homeless off the streets.
      Then if they adapt, they can move on to better equipped places with full facilities.
      Remember, a lot of these people can't cook or know how to clean up etc, so it's a long, hard haul to help a person gain their self respect and to trust themselves and others again.

    Thinking that the bathroom is most always close to the kitchen.. so if you switched places with the frig and washer/ dryer from underneath the stairway somehow that would be much better.. A wider tiny home would be more doable in the space.. but definitely like the layout other than where the bathroom is located .. I like the design which the bedroom is upstairs and you can walk around in it. Overall the tiny house is really cute.

    Beautiful !! I really love the full size headspace in the upstairs bedroom. I would like to suggest that you put your master bathroom on the top floor with the bedroom, where the balcony currently is, because who wants to have to run downstairs to use the potty first thing in the morning?? Then put a tiny little half bath downstairs where the master bathroom currently is, which would leave room to put your fridge over by your cooking area where it belongs. Then put your lovely balcony either on the front of the house on the first floor, or clear up on top on the third floor with a beautiful little circular staircase leading up to it, like they do in Middle Eastern countries, where the Rooftop is your entertainment area

    Nice for warm climates - but I would prefer a porch as well, roofed by the second floor, being larger. For colder climate I would prefer water pipes not adjacent to outside walls; shower and kitchen on opposite side of inner wall. Better insulation and more robust construction overall. Traditional pointy roof to prevent accumulating heavy snow, allowing a stow-away attic.

    I'd probably move the closets upstairs to be on both sides of the bed. This would also allow the bed to have walkaround space on both sides, which make it easier to make the bed, and for a couple, one partner can get out of bed without disturbing the other. The desk could then go where the closet space is now.

    • @aqueenslander
      @aqueenslander 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Wouldn't work. End of bed would then be against the upstairs railing with no room to get past to the balcony. If the bed is a queen it might work with a double but then bedspace becomes a problem for two adults of normal size.

    • @vamoscruceros
      @vamoscruceros 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

       @Hamish Macbeth I looked at it further, and the stairs are actually too narrow anyway per the 2012 IRC. The stairs need to be 36" wide (91.44 cm); the stairs are rendered as 65 cm wide. A queen bed is 60" (152 cm) wide. Given that the interior width of the home is listed as 2.8 meters, a queen bed would only leave about 36 cm/14 inches of clearance between the railing and wall if the stairs have to be widened to meet IRC. If you could leave the stairs at 65 cm, then there should be around 63 cm/24 inches to work with between the rail and the wall. As far as I could tell, this appears to be a queen bed in the rendering - it stops just short of where the railing begins on the second floor, but it would still be a tight squeeze to move the bed out from the wall.

    • @kimderryberry421
      @kimderryberry421 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would do a Murphy bed with closets on either side. And then do a drop down slab so you have a desk when you need it and when you don't, you put it up. Use a chair from the balcony since space is limited.
