I have a couple of lads on my U10s who struggle to get the ball off the deck never mind rainbow flicks :) Any drills you can think of to help elevating the ball?

Ah I see! The most common mistake kids make trying to get the ball up is trying to do it very quickly. Start with a simple pull back with the sole of the foot then place the same foot behind the ball to flick it up. But make sure you tell them to try and slowly raise the foot to raise the ball. The faster they do it the more likely they are to miscoordinate and kick the ground or middle of the ball. Slow and steady. The other problem they have is balancing on one leg to flick it up with the other. Try letting them hold onto something/someone so all the focus is on the technical part and they aren’t falling as they do it!
