My favorite and a must have is Oil Wars. I think it is the one expansion that has the most impact on the game in the later years and changes the course of what you can do. A definite must play for historical flavor as many agree that lack of oil was a major factor in the collapse of the Third Reich.
Great video I agree with you on using the cup to draw elites and just placing them or just giving people their respective elite air units almost all hbg expansions i cheat to make them more accessible as its already hard enough to get the expansions in...As a Soviet player I like partisans as annoying as doing a partisan phase can be it really makes the Eastern front feel more realistic as the Germans have to guard their advance from behind
@@CobraWargaming It is pretty fun and they combine with a few other expansions like Turkey at war and the winter war...I found some a second set comes in handy if you roll alot of partisans so I picked one up plus a 5 set of blank white partisans (not included in the set) to represent partisans if nuetral nations get rolled over but like the diplomacy expansion it really can change the entire game..USSR and China become way harder to occupy
The two expansions I simply can't play without...Oil and Partisans. Both account for so much of the economic and political aspects of WWII that I find it hard to consider going without either. I don't think there are any specific rules regarding Polish partisans, but I've implemented a few house rules. The Polish resistance accomplished entirely too much to be left out.
I consistently try to adhere to the published rules so as to have the expansion fit properly into the whole of the game...but yeah, I like to get special units onto the board as quickly as possible.
The Russian and German elite expansions are probably my most wanted, I hope to one day have just about every expansion set for all kinds of combinations.

Honored to hear SCW admiral version is among your favorites! 😀👍🏼 It was intended to be played seperately from the regular version. Roll a die to choose between them bringing more variety to SCW.
I definitely like the new additions of the Admerials edition, I painted up all the different units you can get and showed them off in my Painted Spanish units video.
The SCW Admiral vs Regular is confusing. Are they complementary or one vs the other? Not well presented, but one of these will be the 1st expansion we explore. Oil Wars looks interesting. So many of the expansions appear to be quantity over quality. Perhaps a purging of obsolete or poorly designed Expansions might be in order. I wish there were more expansion specific pieces for the expansions vs just tokens. Perhaps this could be done for the most popular expansions. Looking forward to adding a few quality expansions to broaden game play.
Admirals edition is played by itself, its rules replace the normal ones. I do agree about the confusion, I did not even know they had released it until coming across a random video.
Hi Moffet Field, As the designer of the Admiral edition of SCW, I can tell you that they are not made to be compatible. Pick either to play with. In the admiral version the starting set up has been changed to represent a bit more historical starting situation with Franco’s units in North Africa needing help from the Germans to get to Spain. The Italian Expeditionary troops have been added. Have fun if you try them! DS
I wish Commanders was more detailed. It’s just too simple for me. It needs to have individual commanders for each nation like all the great commanders of the day, Patton, MacArthur, Rommel, etc.
@@adalwolf8006 I think I drew up special rules for Rommel if Germany sent him to Africa, I've had experience with making expansion sets, that might be a cool idea to look into, with each commander having some sort of stat card with differing abilitys.

Rommel deployed to Africa. Maybe Gunderian on the Western front, etc. if you want to do that or have started one, I’ll help with some. Let me know.
My list would be 1. Commanders, 2. Oil Wars (stops the movement of every unit every turn. No oil... no moves or production. As in many expansions, not totally clear on some things.), 3. Spanish with only the events & new units. (How come every one pays something except Russia who gets paid? Out of the box is just fine but like the events.) 4. China at war, 5. Turkey, 6 Netherlands 7. Latin America. Not a fan of the special units but the elite units in China at War work for me. I really think that the more player the better.
I know the “Netherlands at war” expansion is completely compatible with A&A 1940, are there any other expansions compatible with Axis and Allies 1940? And I don’t mean like able to modify the rules to make them work for A&A, I mean like are there any compatible out of the box?

Yuck!” So they only barely accepted “Netherlands fights back” because I showed them it said “compatible with axis and allies 1940” on the HBG page. I *think* I might be able to get them to play minorities, nuclear,ice carrier and a few of the new units though. Thanks for the info! Great video as always!

I've been really wanting to try partisans, but yeah, that constant rolling is keeping me back.

I like any of the expansions that add new factions to the game. Canada, Spanish, Dutch, etc.
Those ones are definitely fun, I really like Canada at war, I never leave them out.

My favorites are Latin America at War, China at War, Commanders, Spanish Civil War, and Colonial Troops.

The ones I know that have rules for Global 40 is "American Minorities at war", "B-29 Going Nuclear" and the British Ice Carrier Expanstions.
