It's great that you learned about the state of layoffs fast - getting stuck in the layoffs limbo for weeks or months can be horrible for your psyche, especially when dealing with anxiety

I just did 50 minutes ranging from 10-15%. Love doing this when I can't do my normal uphill skiing workouts.
Miss Jackie on the stress. Everytime you have a thought in that nature simply say out loud. Stop Being Thought bias. Redirect thoughts to a helpful area.

It’s unfortunate that major tech companies frequently resort to widespread layoffs, leading to a lack of job security and the constant need to be vigilant. It’s a relief to hear that you’ve managed to navigate through it.

I'm a coder for AWS UK - I'm hating the layoffs at the moment
good to see you and great vlog. layoff currently happening are due to the excessive recruitment during covid times in fang companies in order for economic stabilization and second due to ai.My friend got layed off from audi after they adopted valispace a new ai based tool for product development.Many layyoffs will happen but if people can adapt using ai and create there own passive income through multiple projects, a steady income will be helpfull

Anxiety is very common, especially if you feel lonely and/or isolated. Even I had situations last year, and that was when I was ill too. I started acting irrationally and trying to remedy that problem. "What if this?" It came up again a couple of weeks ago. Being without a job, lonely in your apartment is not fun.
To be fair, I felt lonely at my last job that I quit.

I feel your anxiety when you started talking about layoffs. I work at Bumble and also had a mini meltdown at the start of this year. Big tech right now is not doing well at all 😢

Dang, we are so opposites when it comes to utilities. I forgot to set up autopay on my water bill and completely forgot until I got mail telling me they were about to shut my water off because I hadn't paid my bill from October (this mail came in February). If I never got an electricity bill, I'd be blowing fuses running a server farm in my apartment 😆
hahahah I was a glitch in the system. Who knows, maybe I wouldn't have had to pay if I didn't raise it :')

I'm considering therapy because i've been stuck at a deeply unsatfying data science job which, on paper, is an otherwise great role (good salary, benefits, colleagues, etc..) But the actual day-to-day is so incredibly dull that I often arrive home with my mood permanently tainted. The job market sucks too, which isn't making it easy to find a new one. I feel so ungrateful because I know a lot of people would kill for my job. Do you think this 'warrants' therapy? Sorry to ask such a naive question, but interested to hear your opinions :) Great video

Thank you! I'd say maybe 3-4
Linux or macOS are both great for programming. Hardware wise, you don't need much unless you're running heavy computations locally e.g. training ML/AI. A mid-range CPU and 16GB RAM are usually enough for most types of programming :) but of course, if you want to splurge, go for it. It doesn't hurt.

Hello Carmen ( if I remember correctly 😅 ). I got the codecademy pro which you recommended. So far so good. What would you recommend doing? Doing as much as it provides or doing a few courses and practicing alone? What projects would you do if you traveled again back in the past?

I would suggest doing the career paths as they’re super comprehensive. The Comp Sci one and then the ML/AI engineer one would be a good combo. They’re both safe bets
I made a generic video about how I would learn to code from scratch if I had to do it again. It was posted a few weeks ago. Codecademy offers most of the stuff I mention in their comp sci and full stack Eng career paths

Yeah market is kinda broken now.
I have a job, but pay is crap (im from argentina).
I want to change, so, for about a year now im having lots of interviews, and even when in ALL the process i killed it, the common "we decide to go with someone else..." comes.
2 years back, with a mediocre tech interview, i knew that the job was mine... And 99% of times that was true.
But now its being SUPER hard, the entire interviews cycles are much longer and harder.
And im not asking for a "super" pay or anything... Im asking for not more than u$4k/month (which es VERY cheap for US companies) for someone with B2 upper /C1 english level, 4.5 years of experience Android developer as myself.
I dont know what will happen in the mid term with IT.
Funny coincidence, but I've had a similar experience with a bill I hadn't paid because it was not there yet... Worriers of the world :D
