When observers do this, I just sit there and zone out for like 10 minutes. I always wonder... 1. Why do you know so much about this 2. Why does this matter 3. Just get the universal adapter thing 4. Now that you're done, let's talk about how crazy people are.
😂 I was never much for conspiracy theories, but this... this is real. I freak out about inefficient systems all the time. like why is it so poorly made 😭
Too real. Makes me want to get in there and start making suggestions... only to realiza that these irrational people are normally the very ones in charge and propagating the dump.
All.the.time. Inefficient systems/ideas DRIVE ME INSANE. I cannot NOT rant about them... as I've gotten older, my control is better though, and I can cut back on the time spent ranting. My kids and spouse tend to humor me, and I have finally realized that most people don't see or care about the inefficiency. They just "deal" and move on. That's baffling to me, but I've learned to shorten the reaction, by reminding myself it's not my job to fix everything.
@Dy Dayton what about people who are blatantly lazy, don’t pull their weight, make mistakes from not paying attention, causing more work for others? My blood pressure and heart rate go up just thinking about it. I keep it in until a certain point - then I’m the one with the guts to go say something (how it’s affecting everyone and it’s WRONG what they are doing). I don’t know if I’m an INFP or FJ, and I over analyze, but I get more upset by lazy people than broken systems, although that’s really bad too (loathe wasting time looking for supplies that should be readily available in a fast pace work environment).
@michelle Wilson. Me too. I don’t know how much money I’ve wasted on hose sprayers that break six months or so later. No matter if I buy a cheap plastic one, or more expensive brass one. Even when I take good care of them they still malfunction. I’d be willing to pay double for one that would last 3+ years. Any mechanical engineers out there who want to take this on? On positive side, seeing defects in processes and things is a valuable skill. DSP himself trying to improve MBTI is an example. One could say he might be that very guy he depicted, except it motivated him to deep dive and do something about it.
Why can't the whole world just have one kind of electrical plug that works everywhere? It would make things easier. I'm not exactly losing sleep over it, but it is a pain having to go buy a special adapter if you want to go overseas and plug in your gadgets.
I should just plug (hehe) that the UK has the best power sockets in the world. The design is super safe and wont work without three prongs! I just bought a UK - US adaptor for my upcoming US trip, the pins are super flimsy! and I'm losing sleep over it (hehe jk)
I think the Australian plug is good too... No accidentally electrocuting yourself because there's an earth pin, and it's impossible to plug in the wrong way. What really grinds my gears is when power plugs won't "share" space in the outlet eg when they have a power pack that makes them extra bulky and you can only plug something in on one side of the plug and if you've plugged it in on the wrong side you have to unplug everything and change all the plugs around just to get everything to fit on the powerboard. Surely in 2019 we can come up with some more streamlined power pack solutions?
The supply is different. Different frequencies, voltages, and phases. The plugs are different so you physically CAN'T plug up to the wrong type of supply, no matter if you think it will be OK. We do things like this all the time for process improvement. We don't just try to retrain and persuade the operators to adopt a new procedure. They will just tell you the new procedure isn't better, so they went back to the old one, because it's comfortable. The only way to gain the improvrments is to do so.wthimg that makes the old process physically impossible. With plugs, you don't really need to understand why the power supplied is different. You need to NOT plug up to the wrong one for the device. If you had the same plug, almost every human will constantly plug up to the wrong supply, and be totally clueless why shyt gets burned down. Then, they will blame the device, and whoever used it last, and even magic, and everything else except their own inability to check for compatibility. You can't stop the complaints, but you can stop the damage to the devices. ...so, basically, I'm an IxxP, and I'll explain that it's because people are stupid AF, like horribly stupid. Like, you can't even include the possibility of better human performance to do process improvement. You have to do the experimentation, and analyze the results to see if they are better or worse without having to ask them. Then, you know the performance numbers are possible, soif they tell you it's not, you know they aren't using the improved procedure. Lol, sometimes have to video tape an operators machine to prove that changes ARENT making the machine act weird. I recently had a guy tell me that calibrating when an air cylinder energized was making it stay energized for longer, so he kept erasing the calibration. Even when I changed the settings from the extreme minimum to the maximum in front of him, and made him watch the effect they have, I just said, "idk, it still seems to me like it stays open longer." I had to video tape a bunch of cycles, sync them, and play them simultaneously, so he could physically see the cylinder opening and closing at the same time. Then I manipulated how long it stayed energized with the correct setting for that effect, after he stopped freaking because he NEVER changes that number. He had been undoing calibration, then giving up every time I fixed it. He simply wasn't used to how his machine acted when it was calibrated, lol. His performance increased by 30% the very next day, lol.
That's accurate as hell. People bother me more than things, events, objects, etc. I've never ranted about things with that much passion like at all. I could do the same thing with people, tho.
I work in tech support. At my job, we don't usually have much drama despite having no social skills, but we all have tantrums over the bathrooms, the parking, and the procedures/rules. And all things considered, we don't have any of those things that bad.
Hmm, I'm not sure whether my major freak outs are more on the observer side or the decider side. I have PTSD from adverse childhood experiences so a lot of my freak outs are related to those negative experiences with people, perceiving rejection, avoiding conflict etc... Have you guys ever looked at how Mental Health can affect personality type? Because I think it's really throwing a curve ball into trying to identify my type.
I have the same problem (and btw, don't listen to people who are trying to type you based on 1 statement 😉) - I also have ptsd from childhood (and a concussion) and I do believe that severe childhood trauma can mask your real type. Especially if we assume that personality type is partly inherited and partly developed.
ADHDer with childhood CPTSD (Anxiety in da hoooouse!) here. Got into this temperament/trait/personality thing via employment, first tested 25 years ago (fuck I'm old). Am consistently typed (using the MB dichotomies) as an ISTP. It's never fitted. Between some therapy, this channel, and Cognitive Personality Theory the (ongoing) dawning realisation is ... I'm actually an all sorts effed up ENFP. Yeeeah. I'd also be interested in an exploration of this.
This gave me such a chuckle - when I was a much younger lady (late adolescent, early adult) I made a legit LIST of pet peeves which all included a host of “things” to include: perforated items that don’t tear on the perforation, staples not parallel w the edge of the paper so it makes that stupid wedge when you flip the page, computer doing something different when I gave the exact same input as I always do!! AARRGGG! ... whew ok, I’m ok... 😂
I’m an ISFJ- if my wife is going to be coming home late with the kids, my panic about them coming home is always like “will she see the dishes and be mad at me that they weren’t done? What can I get ready for them?” Basically, what THING would trigger her or help her?
Really fucking funny, and so true. I'd observed the totally absurd amount of time and energy I can spend ranting on and on because the set-up of this or that material thing or system is SO STUPID, haha, but I'd never made or heard of anyone making the connection between that senseless propensity and being a lead Observer//Perceiver. (These new observations and theoretical planks are really going to help with my stand-up comics' temperament-sorting. :-)) After having been completely out of touch with what's been going on in the MBTI Nerdworld most of the last two years, I've just watched several of your recent videos in a row, and your concepts and really fun on-camera co-presentations and humour have really re-energized me and beaten back some incipient boredom and staleness I had begun to feel in using typology. I'll still be rambling on about all my anecdotal observations and phenomenological bullshit, of course. ( _Gotta be me!_ -- No. 41x?) But getting juiced-up by these new directions and extensive, useful complexities of your model gives me an extra push in wanting to make some more videos. My appreciation of what this grand design can reveal and otherwise *do* is deepening more and more. I'm glad about what you're bringing to fruition, and that it all seems to be going well.
I have typed myself INTJ and my girlfriend is INTP and I 100% agree she is always freaking out about tribe and self and I am a cool headed mastermind until I need leave for work by 9am its 8:45 and I can't find my socks so I go fucking insane start feeling hot and anxious and need to just sit down and wait for intp gf to find my socks... INTJ master race?
On the one hand I can relate to not being able to find my keys or wallet, but on the other hand you really need to have enough pairs of socks that not being able to find one pair is not the end of the world.
If Linus was freaking about identity and tribe in a tech channel, i'm not sure if you guys thought that the youtube videos are restricted to the channel's content.
I tend to have rants about people being wrong/emotional/shallow (not saying I’m “better,” just looking back at conversations I’ve had since I was a kid and what’s really annoyed me) hmmm 🤔
Relatable!! I just recently went into a rage about why veterans are so angry about transitioning from military to civilian life. Almost made my first TH-cam video 🤣👀. But, I don’t want to be known for being a crazy/angry veteran. 🤦🏼♀️
Remy B Thanks for the comment. Long story short the reason I was in a rage is because at some point you start to feel helpless about your fellow brothers and sisters who are either homeless or are dealing with hardships that could have been prevented had some of these veterans/individuals been given the proper tools before transitioning. The reasons you’ve listed are certainly some of the things people go through. I could list a lot more but I don’t want to get upset again. Haha! To simplify things, my anger comes through from feeling helpless. That’s all.
Tommy Hass I was in a combat “zone” (OEF 10.2 - 11.1), but wasn’t directly in combat. Which stereotypes do you mean? Lol. You fell into one of three categories in the Marine Corps as a female.
@Tommy Hass Yeah. That's a big problem, unfortunately. The males are just as bad, if not worse, than the females. And, the males are the ones sleeping with the sluttier females, so... To be honest, it's a huge cluster f*** when it comes to relationships in the military. I've never seen or heard of so many scandals in my life. I was just talking about this yesterday with a fellow veteran. The culture is toxic in a lot of units because a lot of leaders preach one thing but do another. That was one (of many) of the reasons I got out... A lot of males were salty toward me because I moved up the ranks pretty fast (by doing what I needed to do to get promoted -- high physical fitness test score, expert rifle/pistol qualification, special duty assignment ((recruiting)), excelled at my job, went to the leadership schools that a lot of people avoided, etc.). There are "some" females that seem to move through the ranks quicker because senior leaders "like" them and help them out. This is obviously wrong and doesn't happen that often, but males are so attached to this idea that they'd rather group all of the females into one category than to look themselves in the mirror and ask what they've done to get promoted. I'm not speaking for all of the males. But, from my perspective, a lot of the guys that complained weren't that fricken outstanding themselves (once you started digging deeper into their military history). Also, the longer some females stay in the service, they do seem to get promoted because there is a "quota" and the military doesn't want to become dominated by males. Some females "have" to get promoted because it is a numbers game. All about that diversity, right?! Sorry for the length of this post. Lol. I've had caffeine and am typing super fast. Were you in the military? Or, perhaps close to someone who was?
Tommy Hass I’ve been out for 4 years now so I’m not as strong as I was while I was in 😂. My physical fitness test score while I was in was: 12 pull ups, 100 crunches in 2 mins, and a 20:30 min 3 mile run time. There is also a combat fitness test, but I don’t remember my exact numbers from that. I’m still in decent shape now, just not as lean as I was years ago 😋. As a female, I had a perfect physical fitness test score (300). Our standards aren’t as high as the males. To achieve a perfect score as a male you’d need to get at least 20 pull ups (they are dead hang, btw, so no kipping like ppl do in CrossFit), 100 crunches in 2 mins, and an 18:00 min 3 mile run time. Since I’ve been out the standards have gone up, so it’s even harder to get a perfect score. We’ll never know who is more physically fit between the two of us, I suppose 😅💪🏼
I like this kind of video. The more recent format with you guys in the tiny box flying all over a PowerPoint is a bit much, and, in my opinion, doesn't teach as well. This kind touches the subject and gives fun, obvious examples that really illustrate the point. Good job Also, kudos practicing chaos to see which video formats get best results 😉
I think that the decider who made all this rambling about things was also surprised about why would observers care about things. And he did this as a challenge an attempt to be funny and have fun.
So does freaking out about getting interrupted when I'm trying to either do things or think about stuff count as freaking out about things or does it count as freaking out about people/tribe/identity? ....since it's people that interrupt me, I guess I am confused :) .... and how about talking to and pleading with and berating my household appliances as if they were people? Maybe that just means I'm crazy. (My instant pot won't open and give me dinner 😭 )
the thing is i'm depressed. i don't think people with even semi-serious issues can see who they really are. an anxious person will have anxiety about stuff regardless.
@Mr. Spaghetti i'm doing therapy (it's mainly cbt and schema) and taking something similar to those that is legal here. i don't want to be hooked on to a pill in the long run. i'm optimistic about the cure, it's just a slow process. thanks doge person.
Well I've seen EJs rant about "things" but its usually in a one off scenario. Its usually UUUUUUGH MUSESCORE IS STUPID I CAN'T GET IT TO WORK but the root cause is cause i wasn't motivated cause i think people are gonna hate my song and think im a dumbass and less of a person
So, the fact that I am creating a shortfilm about an ex, that betrayed me after 1 month of relationship is not so weird after all. I just drew over 450 drawings, more than 20 soundtracks, about 10 quotes of famous people, a team of 3 people and the length of almost 40 minutes with huge scenario.
Omg I wake up in the middle of the night being angry about how disfunctional unsaid employment is, causing me to jump through unnecessary hoops, which causes mistakes that shouldn’t have happened. I’m angry at myself and the system but feel helpless to change it. Also, seeing people not pull their weight - nothing infuriates me more - and I can rant on and on. Am I an INFP?? Thanks!!!
Is there a book or something, where I can study this objective personality thing? I puzzle this thing out by looking every fucking video on this channel but my knowledge isn’t completed. Need more efficient information! By the way, what does this say about my type? I’m sure that I’m a xNTx
Don't people make up the systems and all their deficiencies are magnituded due to their inconsequential actions. Dude Lord, please just let me get through this shift without the computer crashing, I know I should have filled it up last time, but my dashboard indicator was running low on energy.
He's an ENTP, they mentioned IxxP & ExxJ as deciders not going crazy So making parallelism with observers, his Ne feeds himself for topics/things to rant rather than extract then from the world (?
A little confused here. at 4:35 Dave says, "I have never seen a decider go to this kind of length on a thing." So I understand this is an example of an observer freakout (hence, the video title), but is Linus a decider? If so, what do his decider freakouts look like?!
At the start of the video they said that Linus is the best example of an Observer. I suspect they should drop a video on Decider freakouts pretty soon, but they're usually about people and people drama, rather than things
Yes on people problems and drama. How to be yourself AND fit in is really hard for deciders to reconcile; they usually favor one until the need for the other comes back to bite them. The freakout would be that neglected side showing up in a big enough way to get attention, by which time, the person usually panics because they have little skill or confidence in that area.
So let's bifurcate here: The example of the PS5. So you're saying a single Observer would want to upgrade from a PS4 to a PS5 because of the technical improvements, but a single decider would do so for tribe validation?
I know someone who is heavily suspicious of other people, really a conspiracy theorist And freaks out all the time when things get in their way. What type is this person??
And you guys type shane dawson what ? His conspiracy theories are not single observer because it is for entertainment and he is not serious about it ? Ye ok every body does everything. I want a discussion here !!! help me out plz !
Shane Dawson's conspiracy theories do relate to conspiracies that Shane finds interesting. But at the end of the day, 1) he can talk about conspiracies without going all in on any one or two that he definitely thinks are "real" and 2) he knows the tribe also finds the conspiracies interesting, and some even expect him to deliver on those. So he makes entire series about them to entertain the tribe. In OP, Shane is typed as an EJ
He is good at observers, hence why he is good at delivering conspiracies to the tribe. It doesn't really deeply freak him out, it just interests him and he is able to go through and organise a lot of different kinds of them in informative form. He DID freak a whole freaking lot about the Paul brothers and made hours of videos just about how to deal with this one person in the tribe who looks essentially "evil" or "freaking scary". Conspiracies on the other hand are more of a banality (not like the end of the world) to him than trying to deal with the freakishness of one person. That being said, Shane is typed by Shave as Fe/Ne, so the observer he most relies on is one that hates "narrowing down", and its masculine. Conspiracies aren't his main "rage rage". He doesn't take them personally.
I tested as an INTJ, but maybe i am an ENTJ. Because i fuckin freaked out about my mother installing an app on the smart TV by mistake. I corrected it shortly after in a rage over an hour to fix it. but now i'm calm. I love ranting about things too, but i wouldnt make a video unless i have too much time or am making money with it (like linus does) PS: i remember to having contacted a canadian software developer about some issues i had and i talked with him in a lenghty thread on the forum about how i am enraged, but we found a solution and i apologized. like... thats how it goes sometimes
When observers do this, I just sit there and zone out for like 10 minutes. I always wonder...
1. Why do you know so much about this
2. Why does this matter
3. Just get the universal adapter thing
4. Now that you're done, let's talk about how crazy people are.
Lol ur probably an observer
Edit: but I guess that’s the joke... you got me
Decider: Guess whose fault that is.
No people are only as interesting as the things they make and maintain.
😂 I was never much for conspiracy theories, but this... this is real. I freak out about inefficient systems all the time. like why is it so poorly made 😭

I swear that I watch these videos just as much for the romcom dialogue. Wholesome
I got really sucked into that power outlet rant, I forgot I was watching an objective personality video
I’m definitely a Single Decider. I get pissed off things as well, but I go on longer rants about people/tribe. Definitely.
"corks my screws" might be my favorite phrase now...

Just breathe and watch one of those oddly satisfying videos on this website. It's like the anti pet peeve.
Okay, NOW I feel personally attacked.
I thoroughly enjoyed the thumbnail.
Observers definitely have the funniest freakouts, though.

4 things everyone will be upset about:
- unable to gather
- what the tribe thinks
- identity
- being controlled
That's super interesting
or too much gathering lmao

My family members are single deciders while I'm a single observer. This is why I don't connect with them that well, regardless of my type.
Forget the clothes and the bag and just bring the plug. Problem solved
If Linus was freaking about identity and tribe in a tech channel, i'm not sure if you guys thought that the youtube videos are restricted to the channel's content.
*mutters darkly* Blackboard *shakes fist*
Ok, this was helpful. I definitely plot my revenge for hour straight on people, rather things, so at least I now know I'm single decider.
You must be a single decider IXXP.
I tend to have rants about people being wrong/emotional/shallow (not saying I’m “better,” just looking back at conversations I’ve had since I was a kid and what’s really annoyed me) hmmm 🤔
you can literally see the neurosis in linus eyes, i think this type of behaviour goes beyond personality or trait typing

Remy B Yeaahhh... now that I’ve reread my initial comment, I realize my grammar sucks! 😂 Oops. Thanks!
There is also a combat fitness test, but I don’t remember my exact numbers from
that.
You should analize his Vent out video where he talks about his childhood..
I like this kind of video. The more recent format with you guys in the tiny box flying all over a PowerPoint is a bit much, and, in my opinion, doesn't teach as well. This kind touches the subject and gives fun, obvious examples that really illustrate the point. Good job
Also, kudos practicing chaos to see which video formats get best results 😉
I agree. I came away from this video with a better understanding of how they type people.
This entire channel is dave freaking out about people not getting his objective typing system right
No it isnt.
I think that the decider who made all this rambling about things was also surprised about why would observers care about things. And he did this as a challenge an attempt to be funny and have fun.
Ok. Im a single decider. Im jealous double deciders can be so calm about joking around.
The world really is a mystery for some folks.
I see two solutions, actually changing the world, or deciding it doesn't matter that much. I chose option one.
the thing is i'm depressed. i don't think people with even semi-serious issues can see who they really are. an anxious person will have anxiety about stuff regardless.
@Mr. Spaghetti i'm doing therapy (it's mainly cbt and schema) and taking something similar to those that is legal here. i don't want to be hooked on to a pill in the long run. i'm optimistic about the cure, it's just a slow process.
thanks doge person.
Arguments doesn't upset me as much as cabinet doors left unopened 🤦🏻♀️
He probs had his script written for him and it's a youtube with a particular interest.
Damn
1 month isn't even a relationship, you have to learn how to chill
Omg I wake up in the middle of the night being angry about how disfunctional unsaid employment is, causing me to jump through unnecessary hoops, which causes mistakes that shouldn’t have happened. I’m angry at myself and the system but feel helpless to change it. Also, seeing people not pull their weight - nothing infuriates me more - and I can rant on and on. Am I an INFP?? Thanks!!!
So, IJs and EPs freak out about things, and EJs and IPs freak out about people? That explains a lot of things
Is there a book or something, where I can study this objective personality thing? I puzzle this thing out by looking every fucking video on this channel but my knowledge isn’t completed. Need more efficient information!
By the way, what does this say about my type? I’m sure that I’m a xNTx
So would a single decider when talking about the standardization of electricity will probably talk about edison and tesla lol because I would
Conspiracies are actually about people not things. There are always people behind a conspiracy.
Plz do decider freakouts. Tnx
So, that most likely means you guys organise (😏) Bill Burr & Louis CK in the:
"Observer" bracket?
Linus was just ripping off AVGN's 'You Know What's BS' series. There's another single observer for you.
does the "microwaving fish at work is a personality defect" video count as an observer freakout?
This is the second INTJ i have heard rant on printers wonder if thats a thing. =-)~
Are institutions people or things? Are the people who spend energy on them observers or deciders?
Don't people make up the systems and all their deficiencies are magnituded due to their inconsequential actions. Dude Lord, please just let me get through this shift without the computer crashing, I know I should have filled it up last time, but my dashboard indicator was running low on energy.
you guys crack me up =-)
Shannon, pause - breathe. Everything is all right.
What do you say about CS Joseph?
He's an ENTP, they mentioned IxxP & ExxJ as deciders not going crazy
So making parallelism with observers, his Ne feeds himself for topics/things to rant rather than extract then from the world (?
@@heatherw2597
they already did. It was the one two people freaking out about Logan Paul. Remember?
1040, 2555, and contracts.
You guys are pretty smart. Lol
So observer is like an obsessive?
Thank you for stopping him from speaking anymore!!
Is Shan over exposed or is she slowly turning into a Simpsons character?
Techquickie is an ENTP?
4:08 LOL
Omg this is me ranting when I get going 😂
Double observer, demon Se (currently my life is Se chaos too so more stressful than normal), check check.
Wow this guy lol wow is he EP
@@elizabethbarrera1077 ty make more sense for me
He is good at observers, hence why he is good at delivering conspiracies to the tribe.
I like the perspective. Not a fan of the derision.
Here's some cool advice. Just cut out the parts where Shan's laughing and the video will be reduced to half its length.
Guys you are repeating yourselves and it's getting oldish. And not that funny. Move on.
