Yes, Airbnb is full of gems and nightmares! It's great to have the extra space and be with locals but then you hear of the ones with secret hidden cameras that watch you change.

If things like that happen again, call airbnb’s customer service number! They were incredibly sympathetic and worked fast to get us a new place. ❤
We had booked an airbnb in Japan and from the get go, it was like going through an escape room just to get the keys! When we got into the house, it ended up being so dirty and there were dead cockroaches in the bathroom, kitchenware was dirty, toilet was dirty. When we told the host she said “you can clean it up because you can’t expect hotel quality cleanliness” 😮 i was shoookkkkk! Thankfully this convo was all within airbnb’s chat so when i called airbnb they were able to see it and cancel the booking and found us a new place right away.
They also mention that it’s against policy to ask for money offline. I would reach out to them and find a different place. We also got to our super late and struggled to find a new place but it was worth it. Not staying in a dirty place and refuse to give money to a host that lie in their post!!

Totally agree with keeping all communication via Airbnb and never pay money outside Airbnb platform. It was great that Airbnb was able to cancel your original booking and find you a replacement 😊
We had an experience at another Asian country's Airbnb. The host had shown lots of useful photos and details of their apartment, HOWEVER, they had missed the most important point - there's a steep staircase from the street to the lift lobby 🫣 Somehow, no one had posted any review on that when we made the reservation, you can imagine how shocked we were when we first arrived at the front of the apartment and each of us had a big suitcase.
When it was time for us to leave a review about our stay, I found a new review from the group stayed right before us... if only they had stayed much earlier, then we wouldn't have booked there 😅

    Wow Bii!
You look GORGEOUS in that kimono!!!
Also, I’m sorry about all the troubles you had to go through for that Airbnb 😢
If that ever happens I agree others about keeping conversations (about money or other important matters) through the Airbnb chat and never handing money personally to them.

Although I do think the restricting you to certain rooms only is very weird and should be addressed with Airbnb themselves, if you only booked for one person that is your responsibility to fix. It's not the host's job to make sure it's not only you that will be staying there and that's not just for the cost of the additional people but for safety reasons and passport information as well, they need that information beforehand. It's on you to rectify that situation and, IMO, you should be required to pay for the additional fees.

So, you booked it for 1 person? And the host, separately, confirmed it for 2 people? Or did she confirm it for 1?
