  • Welcome to this quick guide to travelling from Manchester Airport into Manchester city centre by train.
Trains and Trams travel from the airport station located between Terminals 1 and 2.
Simply follow the signs throughout the airport for the station.
A frequent train service with a journey time of around 15 minutes runs throughout the day.
Most trains travel to onward destinations such as Liverpool, Blackpool, Edinburgh and Barrow in Furness.
A single adult ticket from the airport to Manchester will cost anywhere between 3 and 6 pounds.
Tickets can be purchased using cash, debit or credit card from the machines on the station concourse.
If you select Manchester central zone on the ticket machine it will allow you to use the trams in the city zone once you arrive in Manchester.
One purchased, present your ticket at the automated barrier and head to the platforms.
Just check the departure screens to check that your train stops at Manchester Piccadilly, the mainline station in Manchester City centre.
Numerous train operators run the services, a standard ticket will allow you to use any train.
Metrolink trams also run from the airport to the city. These take around an hour as they run through suburban South Manchester before reaching the city, and also have their own separate ticketing system.
Once on the train, you will travel to the city centre where you can catch trains to onwards destinations, or explore the city centre using the free buses outside the station, the Metrolink trams, or by foot.

Great video. Best way and most economical way to get from airport to Man Utd football stadium on a match day. Thanks

      Thanks.
I'd say the easiest would be to take the Metrolink tram from the Airport to Trafford Bar (direct service), and the stadium is then about a 10-15 min walk from that stop.

so if I want to get to Victoria station from airport and next I want to use yellow line tram from victoria to my acomodation, 1 ticket is enough ?

Yes - One ticket specifically from Manchester Airport to "Manchester Central Zone".
Train to Manchester Piccadilly, and then the Metrolink Tram to Victoria (The Manchester Piccadilly metrolink station is the level below the main concourse of the train station).
Its worth noting that although the Manchester Metrolink map has colours, the trams themselves just show the final destination on them, so you are looking on the departure screens and the trams themselves for a tram to "Bury" or it might even say "Bury via Victoria"

Its ambiguous, but i think in reality you could travel around zone 1 as necessary for 2 hours after your original journey

Anywhere between 5 and 10 minutes from T2 to the station (there are travelators for some of the walk too)
