- Saramonic SR-XM1 | Budget Super Mic. Compared to the onboard audio in most cameras, a budget mic is far from useless. Hear some audio tests from the Saramonic SR-XM1 and you'll quickly hear the difference a budget video mic can make to your youtube videos.
The Saramonic SR-XM1 is an ultra-compact condenser microphone and it weighs less than an ounce. It's one of the cheapedt video mics available. It plugs directly into the 3.5mm mic port on your camera and doesn't need a battery (so no need to charge the mic), nor will it suck any battery life from your camera.
The SR-XM1 video mic features an integrated swivel, so it can be pointed directly at the sound you want to record.
For anybody making content, budget mic is far from useless, and as you can hear in my video, it makes a HUGE difference to your audio quality. This is definitely one of the best video mics for youtube in 2020. Big thanks to @iJustineHer channel was the first place I heard this budget mic in action.

Good little mic. I have not used that one but other inexpensive Saramonic mics. The audio on them always surprises me. Nice job as always!
Hey Dave, thanks man! Yeah, totally impressed with the quality especially considering the price and the size
Hey Vic, yeah...it really gives video creators with a tight budget an option good clean audio.
It sounds great 👍
Thank you. It really does. And for the price it’s a bargain
It’s a good little microphone for sure
For sure. Have you got one?
Vic Barry : Yes Sir. For about a year to year and a half
Awesome! How do you find it from a durability perspective?
Vic Barry : Well mine has been fine but I take care of my stuff, my buddy broke his constantly bending the articulating capsule part roughly all the time. I have a little dead cat on mine I took from a wireless microphone and it works well when outside.
@@WORTHITORNOT Good to hear! I've ordered a dead cat for mine alright. To be honest, I love the mic so much, I'd nearly have another one spare. I have a habit of losing small things :(
yup, i'm getting this mic LOL. i want something inexpensive and discreet. thanks for the helpful video!
No worries. It’s a great mic and for the price it’s a no brainier. What kinda stuff are you creating?
Hi, how about the level of white noise? noticeably higher than others like rode video micro?
Thanks for the video, how far roughly did you move away from the camera and mic to test the range?
Hi there. We’re talking roughly arms length (stretched out) maximum. Anything further and it’s not gonna be great.
Great video!
Thanks
@@VicBarry You're welcome!
Amazing,
Do you do any post recording editing to the audio?
Hey Ali, not on this particularly video. It’s direct from the mic. Usually though I’ll dereverb slightly and warm it up a bit using a parametric filter. But otherwise not too much
The reason I asked is that you got one of the clearest voices in your other videos on TH-cam... playing it right 😀
Could you review the GoPro Hero 8 media mod mic?
Hey Justin, waiting on one to arrive. Did you get it? From what I’ve heard it’s ok
@@VicBarry I haven't gotten it yet... because a higher priority is to get my mom to not stop me from making videos for 2 months.
Vic I use these mikes with dead cats on my gopros. They are fantastic The quality and size second to none. Yes you can argue there are better quality out there but man you have to pay through you nose to exceed... Would you really take a large heavy mike with a gopro attached. I have ordered two more from the east £36 delivered. No brainier.. Cheers
Hey Alan, that's awesome! 100% agreed on the size. Sure, the audio can be better, but bang for buck here is phenomenal.
For me it's the size and I've compared these to some of the smaller, more expensive Rode ones and they hold up really well.
I was a bit concerned about their durability...how do you find them?
@@VicBarry I havent had any issues. I was told if you ajust the direction lots of times it can slacken and hear creaking in the wind as it moved. Mine stay at 90dgs. I havent had any problems that is why i have bought another two when they were so cheap. The wee dead cats make a massive difference too. Cheers
Your sound is great do you equalize it in post?
To be honest, I add a little compression, but not all the time. I don’t do a whole lot with audio in post
@@VicBarry oh wow sounded great
Couldn't agree more. Drives me nuts to see these guys spending all this money in the latest camera bodies and have garbage for audio.
Hey Gerald, thanks man. Absolutely. Even something like the Saramonic makes a huge difference. Have you got one?
@@VicBarry I started with a little Saramonic lav mic then moved to a Deity Shotgun. Obviously the Deity mic is a beast but even the little cheap Saramonic lav mic was a huge step up from the built in mic on the Canon I was using at the time.
Thanks for reply Gerald! Deity are really starting to pop up everywhere lately and I've seen a bunch of people shift from Rode to Deity recently. I've given Rode a fair few bucks over the years, but will really like to try out some of the Deity stuff.
Sarominic mic is a excellent mic. get a sony clone one they are what is inside that expensive polarpro, back in the Hero 4 days. but to each tehir own,
What expensive polar pro?
@@VicBarry you then need to research.
Polar Pro haven't sold mics in quite some time
