My son rode a Fat Bob first and told me to. I rode it and was hooked. IMHO this is the most fun bike Harley has ever made. Ride, handling, brakes. It all just works.
One of my favorite Dyna/Softail HD's. I liked it when it first came out as a Dyna. Then they hacked up the back end. Still had my attention. Then it switched over to the Softtail. I took one, and several other of the new Softail's, for a test ride when the factory truck was in town. I walked into the dealership to mull things over after my rides and there was a Sport Glide. This was the week they were released and there was not one on the truck. Off I went on a test ride on the Sport Glide and that is what sits in my garage. Dress it up or strip it down. The SG checked all the boxes for me, Stage III added at purchase. The M8 in the new Softail frame is a hell of package! One for everyone. And I've got bags to load up with. Thanks Matt another great video. Let's see a FLSB review.
I REALLY like this bike! I'm 6'5" and 300 lbs and this and the Fat Boy are the best fitting ergos outside of a touring bike. I want a Harley but I do NOT want a Touring bike for my first. If you had a customer that was too big for "beginner" bikes, would you recommend the Fat Bob or Fat Boy softails?
They say the touring bikes are bigger, I don't see it. The seat, butt, feet triangle is more or less the same. You can change bars, seats, & foot controls to suite you. I'm your size & I feel just fine on the Breakout with, I believe has the same seat on the same frame with the same foot controls. The handlebars on the Fat Bob should allow you to sit more straight up. I'm probably going to change the bar on my Breakout to the Fat Bob or the Fat Boy handlebar.
Matt, great review, LOWRIDER S HANDS DOWN! I’m 65 and had them all, Touring Harley’s, Sportsters 1968 XLCH and 1970 XLH both factory bone stock which I still own and a wide variety of metrics. BUT, even at 65 it all boils down to one bike after owning them all.... it boils down to my LOWRIDER even for long distance riding which I do from time to time. My touring bike is just not as fun as my Lowrider. So, if I had to pick just one bike to own.... it’s my Lowrider, end of story!
Thank you for the comment from an experienced rider! The Low Rider is just hard to beat. I'll take the touring for long rides personally. The Low Rider can do everything though.
I have about 13k on my 2018 114...I absolutely love this bike. I was riding a '14 street Bob and, living in the mountains, I was running out of brakes and needing to drop A LOT of money upgrading suspension and brakes (Dyna Bros know what I'm talking about)...so I rode a few of the new softails but the mean look, the suspension/brakes, and the performance totally sold me. I hated the bars and went to 12" mx t-bars, changed a few other things, but this is an incredibly solid bike. If you're thinking about it, now's the time to pull the trigger. 🤘
Great job once again Matt. I just bought a 20' Fat Bob in performance orange. I owned a FXDX and a twin cam night train for many years. This M8 motor and softail chassis put the Dyna and old softail to SHAME in my opinion. This bike is awesome. I had a stage 1 done with S&S slip ons. If I ride conservatively I can get 50 mpg. The combination of power, handling and comfort is fantastic! Great intro with the Zombie theme, just luv it and all your videos. Don't change a thing in the way you do them. Hope your doing alright during this pandemic!
I agree, the fatbob is the most underrated, took one along the great ocean road in Victoria Australia and was blown away. Had already purchased a heritage classic which is also amazing. I aim to get a FB as a second bike. Great review man 👍👍👍

I just got back from visiting Harley Davidson in Grand Junction, Colorado. Love the 2020 Fat Bob 114 in Black. Perfect bike for me. I am 5’ 11” with long legs. The bike has a perfect height and feel, handle bars are great. Fell in love with it just by sitting on it. Can’t even begin to imagine what it will feel like on the road. It was raining today will come back Monday to stretch her legs on a test ride.
If something unfortunate happened to my FXDL I would SERIOUSLY consider the 2020 Fat Bob. I love that thing, and that headlight is pretty cool in my opinion. Look forward to a test ride sometime hopefully soon. Keep up the great work man
My dad just picked up one of these (pre-Corona). As a naked sportbike rider, I honestly love the look of the thing. He hasn't let me ride it yet, but I'm looking forward to it.
Thanks to, and for all of your rave reviews, a 23 gray haze fat bob is my first HD ever, after about 30 street bikes of all types. It's also the only cruiser in my current stable.
I've seen some super badass clubstyle builds on the new Fatbob platform. The bike seems predestined for that kind of build, I don't see why there aren't more of them.
@KIRBOSKI dude I have to ask. Did changing the seat help you to sit down into the bike? I love the looks of the fat bob but I test rode one and it felt like I was sitting more on top of the bike. So did the seat change that for you?
Great Vid Matt, love the fat bob. I’m kind of a Night Rod fan, if I could have a second bike, but the fat bob just might be more bad ass. This vid is just what I needed as I’m sick of the Pandemic. Great job as always, and please stay safe and healthy.
Gusseisern I’m 6-4 too and love mine! Just buy it and ride for awhile, then decide if you need the extended controls. I decided I didn’t. Leg room is not bad at all. Get a new seat with a couple extra inches too if you want 👍🏼
I agree with the other comment on here. You might be okay with the stock controls but the good news is that they make extended controls for this bike too
Harley needs to offer an accessory crossbow/katana/shotgun holder, leather football shoulder pads with spikes sticking out, and mohawk motorcycle helmets. I'm on board with this.
Great overall review with allot of usable points. i have the 18 fat bob and have had many bikes over the years (gixer, Hondas, V stars, gold wings, etc.) . This is my first Harley. That being said, this is the most fun and enjoyable bike i have ever had. the ride is great, manurable, stable, fast enough and sporty enough with comfort and the engine and overall feel when you ride it is amazing and just is a great feel. That engine has an amazing feel to it!!!! I personally like the styling and feel this is a great sport cruiser. Thank you Harely Davidson for this one !!!!
Always looked past this bike, but had the chance to demo it over the weekend, this will be my second bike when not on my road glide. This bike has a great rider position for both me 5’10” and my wife 5’5”, seat is very comfortable, bike rips around city streets and stays planted in corners. Don’t look past it give it a try. Just fun to ride.
Love the Fat Bob. I have the 2020 model and the first thing I did was put the Screaming Eagle Black slip on Mufflers and a Stage IV kit through it. The only real issues I had with the bike is, the seat was uncomfortable after a few hundred kilometres, so I put the Harley Sundowner which also gives the pillion a better ride. Also, as a design feature, I would raise the display up to the handlebars as you have to take your eyes off the road for several seconds to see it. Not a great idea at any speed. I also have cruise control, more to keep the bike at signposted speeds as it's too easy to find yourself well over the speed limit if you're not careful. All in all, definitely the best bike I've ever owned and you can't keep the grin from my face. I put 8,000 km on the bike in the first 6 weeks I owned it. Just awesome.
I absolutely love my 2018 Fat Bob. I’ve put over 25,000 miles on her and she’s been perfect! My only regret is not buying mine at your dealership and saving myself a grand.
I love the new 2018+ Fat Bob, being so different than the normal HD Softail offering make it special. I applaud HD for thinking outside the box. I like everything but the mirrors which seem to be giving great views of your arms.
This is an awesome looking motorcycle. As far as the looks go it is one of the top 5 coolest looking bikes of all types. Couple issues I've heard they have though: - it's damn near impossible to find neutral on this bike -the LED headlight looks cool and modern, but is not particularly bright despite it's size. - it has a huge 1700cc+ engine making it weigh close to 700lbs but only making 90hp -Costs over 20k out the door and you're basically paying for looks and a name, without really much preformance to back it up.
That’s incorrect. I can find Neutral no problem. The LED is awesome! SUPER BRIGHT!! I have a Stage 1 and it is very powerful and fast and has incredible torque! It looks bad ass. It’s got PLENTY of power!! Turns on a dime! The most maneuverable and nimble Harley hands down!
I almost bought a Fat Bob in 2018 but went with the KTM Super Duke 1290r. The SD was lighter and more horsepower. Eventhough I raced motocross and flat track, I like safety tech. The SD as well as most Premium European bikes offer stability control with IMU and cornering ABS/cornering TC standard for safety. Love Color TFT dashes.
Own the 2018 107 in red iron. Its f awesome ride, get the " dude, nice bike" looks on every ride, and matt is so right. Just ride it and you will see what he is talking about. Front pegs are so money a chill confortable riding position. This bike does it all. I'm 6ft, 225.
I have a 103 breakout but I have tried the Fat Bob and it’s a wonderful bike. I hope Harley will renew it in the future with some new rounded front headlamps maybe with some stylish DRL. Anyway it’s comfy, plenty powerful and runs very well
I had the black denim 2009 fat bob . I put 16 inch apes, leather throw over saddle bags, and sissy bar. Loved that bike! Rode it from south Florida to nags head North Carolina, and back... zero issues. They shoulda kept the original style
I seriously considered this bike but went with the 2020 LRS instead. One thing that kept me away was the smaller tank size. I ride a lot and loath filling up constantly. Looks wise it's lovely.
Great video! Had me rolling at times. Although 1. My wife rides (a Harley, almost as rare as Bigfoot) and 2. of the 3 I’d take a Fat Bob. Proud Street Bob rider!
ML you absolutely nailed it by your description of the Fat Bob as similarities to a “Hybrid” between a Dyna & a Softail. This platform has so much potential for customization but drawing the line at keeping it to OEM as much as possible. IMO Rob Carpenter @1WheelRevolution has that Ultimate build, more of a Stunt-build by close to OEM styling where you still see the Fat Bob DNA🎯
Ever since this new softtail platform fatbob came out.. not even a harley guy.. have never been more infatuated with a motorcycle, it really is fuckin awesome looking
I really, really, really like the look of the Low Rider S (I would switch out to forward controls) but the Fat Bob is just a far better ride, better handling in the curves, better suspension, better braking. I have ridden both of them multiple times and I would have to go with the Fat Bob, still very impressed with this motorcycle. If I ever get to ride a new Low Rider S with forward controls, I might change my mind but not until then.
I would consider the Fat Bob if it had a 5 gallon tank, but it doesnt. And it'd cost a lot to get it a 5gal tank swap. So it's off the table for me. I need a 5 gal tank for some of the road stretches that I'll be traveling. Otherwise its a great lookin and performing bike.
If you're getting 50 mpg that 1.5 gallons will get you 75 more miles. Three & a half gallons just means you need to take a break every 2 hours. The five gallon tank you have to take a break every 3
Loved my Fat Bob! But with my bike being our only option and my wife loving to ride we had to make a change. Good review on a great bike.........Ride hard or stay home😎
Matt, thank you for the vid. Im really liking the fat Bob. I'll need to test ride that bad boy. I just got a 2019 Roadster from Bakersfield where I'm at. What kind f jacket are you wearing in your videos?
I picked the low rider a for the survey (because it’s free) but when it actually came to me purchasing I went with a regular low rider. Just cause it was cheaper and I would have pretty much gutted everything that made the S more expensive and replaced it all anyways..just like I’m doing to my low rider haha. Loved the video though keep up the great content Matt!
definitely love to try the Fat Bob .... love the style ... love how you said that its nibble .... i used to ride kawasaki 600, which kill my wrists these days ..... and for shorter rider. its awesome
Which is more comfortable on bad maintained roads between this Fat Bob and a Sportster or 48 ? Also considering aftermarket suspensions ? More generally, are Sportsters more comfortable than Softails on potholes and bad roads ? Thanks !
Trying to buy an exhaust for my Street Bob but can’t seem to get one due to California regulations. Any suggestions? Love the vids btw! Liked, subscribed, bell icon.
Looking to buy my first bike, and the fat bob looks really amazing, especially since I love the post-apo genre and the bike just screams Mad Max and Days Gone.
Great video Matt I really enjoyed it. Got my mind off things that's going on in this world for a moment. Thanks again for an awesome video. Ride safe and God bless
Traded my M8 Fat Bob for a Road King. Great bike for people who rides mostly solo. Like Matt said, until the Low Rider S came out... this was the M8 Softail to own (performance wise)!
Great video, Matt! I wouldn't trade my Lowrider for any other bike. It's just a perfect all around bike for me. It's got great stability and range on a highway, and yet it's nimble enough for twisty roads and busy city traffic. Fat Bob is cool, it handles like a bicycle and launches like a rocket, and Lowrider S is more performance oriented than a standard version. But I wanted a "Jack of all trades" bike and I got it. Love it!
In your opinion is an ohlins a worthy upgrade to the taller stock shock on the fb? Or is that something that is more of a necessity on the shorter shock setup?

I like everything but the mirrors which
seem to be giving great views of your arms.
It's on my list of Softails I want to buy. A new one will be purchased soon.
This is an awesome looking motorcycle. As far as the looks go it is one of the top 5 coolest looking bikes of all types. Couple issues I've heard they have though:
- it's damn near impossible to find neutral on this bike
-the LED headlight looks cool and modern, but is not particularly bright despite it's size.
- it has a huge 1700cc+ engine making it weigh close to 700lbs but only making 90hp
-Costs over 20k out the door and you're basically paying for looks and a name, without really much preformance to back it up.
Anyway it’s comfy, plenty powerful and runs very well
I’m more of a sport bike person but when I’m older I’ll 100% go for the fat bob it’s sporty looking but is a cruiser and looks AMAZING
I miss my 2008 Fat Bob. The moment I saw it announced by H-D I looked at my wife and said "that's my next bike". The new Fat Bob's style grows on you.
Matt, I think I fell in love with this bike all over again.
Haha glad I could facilitate that for you. I did too
AMEN!
Fat Bob all day. I've never even had a bike before, but I want this one to be my first bike.
You’ll like it. 👍🏻
Never really been interested in a Harley, but this has definitely got my attention
Up to your usual cinematic standard Matt!
Great video! Had me rolling at times. Although 1. My wife rides (a Harley, almost as rare as Bigfoot) and 2. of the 3 I’d take a Fat Bob. Proud Street Bob rider!
I have a 2012 Fatbob. Absolutely love it. Transitioned from a metric sport bike. Love the videos. Stay healthy!
Ever since this new softtail platform fatbob came out.. not even a harley guy.. have never been more infatuated with a motorcycle, it really is fuckin awesome looking
much better version than my '15 was. I moved to the Heritage for commuting, but I still really like these new Fat Bobs too!
Fat Bob was my favorite dyna, and remains my favorite softail.
That intro was pretty boss.
Thanks !
Matt Laidlaw no problem man. Keep up the good quality work I enjoy it.
I’ve never ridden this bike or sat on one but it really catches my eye. I have a brand new breakout and love it but really want to try one of these.
I’m now 55 years old and still love my heavy road glide ultra. If I buy on other bike in the future, it will be this fat bob
"Honey Spiral FRICKEN Hams!" hahaha
Haha
love my fat bob. had an iron 883 for my first bike for a year then upgraded to the fat bob.
I get a solid 180-200 miles/tank out of my FatBob. I have to be hitting it really hard to get less than 170. Love the video Matt!
I love the Fatbob. Awesome looking bike. Great video also Matt.
Its so comfortable and has the best handling of all the soft tails.
Another great video Matt. Apocalyptic style!
definitely love to try the Fat Bob .... love the style ... love how you said that its nibble .... i used to ride kawasaki 600, which kill my wrists these days ..... and for shorter rider. its awesome
6’3” here. Thoughts on this bike for a tall rider who doesn’t want to mess with the touring bikes?
I love my 2018 fatbob. Got a great deal from Matt back in the day.
The tail section. Between round turn signals lights. Is that an actual running light or is it just a reflector.
YESSSS another video on the fatbob❤️❤️
Alex I LOVE SEEING MATTS FATBOB VIDS!!!
Looking to buy my first bike, and the fat bob looks really amazing, especially since I love the post-apo genre and the bike just screams Mad Max and Days Gone.
This will be my next harley. Thanks Matt. Be safe.
Great video Matt I really enjoyed it. Got my mind off things that's going on in this world for a moment. Thanks again for an awesome video. Ride safe and God bless
Glad I could bring some enjoyment in tough times. Thanks for the comment. Thanks for watching
Love it!
i want one, as soon as i can i'm going to get down there and make a purchase...
In your opinion is an ohlins a worthy upgrade to the taller stock shock on the fb? Or is that something that is more of a necessity on the shorter shock setup?
Its definitely a worthy upgrade but the shorter shocks will have a greater percentage comfort increase over stock.
I bought a 2018 fat bob I love this bike. my question is how are the wider tires on wet road traction, your videos is awesome.
So which one is flat faster the breakout or fatbob. Breakouts have that drag bike look
