    My Farmstand arrived today! Your videos have been SO helpful, and thanks to you, I'll be soaking all my seedlings (except for the foliage) in half 3% hydrogen peroxide and half water (02:05) for 30-60 seconds (03:08) to kill any eggs, & larvae -- the tea strainer is a great idea to help get them out (06:46)! My family loves H202, and we use it for so many things, so this is right up my alley!
    I hope you don't mind my timestamps! I know these will help me when I refer back to this (and hopefully help others too--your tips are SO great!). 😅
    01:27 I love the idea of growing your own seedlings! 🌱
    02:51 Great idea to block the empty holes with golf balls!
    06:35 Change the H202/H20 solution about halfway through.
    08:58 I may also incorporate new weekly teaspoons of Mosquito Bits in a tea strainer for the main tank if I end up with a gnat problem, but I'm hopeful the H202 takes care of it!
    10:10 I noticed you added more H202 to the main tank (looks like about 1/2 cup based on the two squirts you did earlier for the gnat soak preparation!). Love that idea! My mom's knockout roses developed Rose Rosette (a disease that makes the rose plants look scary!), and she got the idea to water them with some H202, and it got rid of the Rosette!
    10:49 The Fly Traps are SO cute, ha! I will definitely get those with your links if I have a problem!
    ***I see that if gnats are already a problem, this whole process (soaking in H202 & Mosquito Bits) may need to be done once a week for about a month (since their life cycle is about 4 weeks).
    Thank you again SO very much for sharing all your tips with us! You are just amazing, and I'm SO thankful to have found you! Blessings to you and your family! 💖

    The fungus gnats comes from their medium use Rockwell instead and start your own seeds that way no gnats are introduced to your system

    Thank you for the info. Will growing your own seedling prevent you from getting gnats and if so will you do a video on growing seedlings and them moving them to the LG farm stand.?

    Thanks for posting this video... I've recently observed a large fungus gnat infestation among my indoor lettuce plants. I was hoping to use a water solution made with mosquito bits (mosquito dunks). Have you found any reputable resources that confirm it's safe to use with edible plants? Thank you!

    Did you put HP straight into the farmstand toward the end? How much do you do? Does that help with the gnats or something else? You probably said and I missed it. :)

    Does the tea strainer with mosquito bits go in the water or stay 'dry'?

    Thanks so much for your videos and tips. I just ordered one for my special education speech classroom but can not yet afford the lights. I'll be using grow lights that I had at home. Hope they work! Can I use your coupon code for the lights? They are $400 right now.

    How long do you wait to put the hydrogen peroxide soaked seedlings back in the farm stand? Do you need to rinse them first? Also, why do you need to avoid the foliage, what happens if the foliage comes in contact with the hydrogen peroxide? Thank you for your help!

    • @SlayAtHomeMother
      @SlayAtHomeMother  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi! I usually only soak the seedlings for 30-60 seconds, repeating once a week until the gnats have been completely taken care of because their life cycle is about a month long. Hydrogen peroxide can 'burn' foliage, whereas it doesn't really harm the roots or soil. Hope this helps! :)

    So do you recommend quarantine seedlings before putting them in the farm stand? I want to grow indoors n pest will drive me insane

    SO helpful! Thank you for your videos! In another video you tried straight H2O2, correct? How did that compare to the 50/50 with H2O? How often did you soak to make sure the problem went away (1x per day for a week?)? I want to do this as soon as my seedlings come as I am a new owner of a Farmstand! ;) Thanks again!

      Thank you for watching!! Congrats on your Farmstand, that's amazing :) You're spot on! I mention using both, but I didn't see a difference between using straight hydrogen peroxide vs. using 1:1 mixture. I started using the 1:1 mixture to save on hydrogen peroxide, though, since I now have up to 30 plants to accommodate. I only needed to soak the plants 1x per week along with using Mosquito Bits in the tank (changing that out 1x per week as well - highly recommend using the tea strainer I link in the description for easy changing-out), and using the sticky traps for the adult gnats to get rid of the problem. I would say it takes about 2 weeks to see an improvement, and 4 weeks total for the issue to be resolved since the fungus gnat life cycle is ~1 month. :)

    I sadly forgot to put the water into the peroxide before I soaked the plants - they are in the farm stand now - have I ruined them?

    Wondering if the Farmstands were in an isolated room with bug zappers if they would get the flying pests at night too?

    So you recommend we do this before we set up the whole system? I’ve been looking to buy the stand

    • @SlayAtHomeMother

      Hi! Just with my last 2 seedling orders, I've needed to do this and I wish I had just done it from the start lol. My previous orders were just fine, no issues! I would def recommend just soaking the grow medium for about 30 seconds to make sure any possible larvae is taken care of :).

    • @shaniecepalmer7919
      @shaniecepalmer7919 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Slay At Home Mother “grow medium” do you mean let it grow for a bit then soak them ?

    • @SlayAtHomeMother
      @SlayAtHomeMother  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shaniecepalmer7919 Hi! the "grow medium" is the 'soil' that each seedling comes in (it's just a fancy way of saying it). The 'soil' is like a slightly soggy brownie. So you would want to dip just the soil part of the seedling into the 50/50 hydrogen peroxide/water mix for about 30 seconds, taking care not to get the leaves soaked. :)

    • @PeaceIsYeshua
      @PeaceIsYeshua 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Always do this when you first get them, but if gnats are already a problem, do this once a week for about 4 weeks, which is about their life cycle. Good luck! :)

    So, I'm doing the mosquito bits because I also have fungus nat issues at my house and it doesn't seem to be doing any good there's still live larvae I can see them crawling I do soak my pods and hydrogen peroxide but I'm not sure if there'll ever go away. 🤦🏼‍♀️

    • @patrickgagne8795

      Hey there, the peroxide kills the bacteria (it’s good bacteria) from the bits. Best to use the peroxide, which does work on the eggs and larvae. After 24-36hrs reintroduce the bits. For the bits, use 1/4 cup of bits per gallon of ph’d water and let it sit for for 24hrs. From there, water the plants directly with it. That should make a difference. Just remember, the minute you use peroxide, it’ll kill off the bacteria from the bits

    • @n.7901
      @n.7901 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@patrickgagne8795 Can you clarify your process for using the bits? It sounds like you stir 1/4 cup per gallon of water and let it sit 24 hours. Then do you strain the bits out and poor the water directly into the Lettuce Grow?
