Autumn in Oregon, we display branches of colorful fall leaves, which get swapped out as they dry out🍂 The zinnias are still blooming, so we usually have a vase of them with their cheerful colors. A small hollowed out pumpkin holds green vines. Except for the bath and laundry, the flooring is hickory throughout. (We sold our home of 43 years in northern Cali and downsized to an open plan apartment above our son's workshop.) The walls and ceiling are a warm white, because Oregon in the winter can be overcast for days at a time, but lap robes and a couple of Pendleton wool (made in Oregon) throw pillows make the living space cozy. Re bedroom lighting: a stained glass ceiling fixture gives a pleasant light when I need more than a table lamp.
Fall and winter is a time to turn inward and slow down. Not packing so many things into my schedule this time of year is very helpful. Layers of clothing including scarves or something around my neck to keep warm. You mentioned soups. This is a good time of year to ramp up more saucy or liquid meals to aid slower digestion. Remove or limit iced drinks. And if you are amenable to hair color, it’s a great time to put in low lights or tones like caramel or auburn. I love your hair color!
My pajamas, slippers, comfy throw blanket that my 4 yr old granddaughter always asks for, Warm cup of coffee (w/ hot cocoa mix). And we have added a lot of wood elements in our house. We Have redone our trims to wood. Added wood picture ledges etc. and plants!!!!!
All your tips sound really cozy. I love to have a blanket over my legs and a sweater around my shoulders, just sitting in the corner of my couch with a book. I also love burning (scented) candles instead of having the lights on, except when I’m reading. And yes the sound of rain on my windows and roof, I live on the ninth (top)floor of the apartment building, are sooo wonderful when I don’t have to go outside. Last week I went shopping for a couple of days and came home with some plants and pots and off course a few pumpkins 😊.
Aaahh! I love hot mulled wine and warm cinnamon muffins, curled up in a cozy blanket, when it’s cold outside. I would really like to have the pumpkin cheesecake muffin recipe.
Love this! My favorites are spice scented candles for the scent and flame, accessible good books, big band music on my record player, and my 2 afghans that each of my grandmas made.
I think the contrast of a home space with the outside environment generates coziness. We are in South Australia, so your home with dried grasses and desert shades shouts Dust, Allergens & Fire Hazzard to me, as we actively try to remove dried grasses and flamable materials from around our homes. Interesting. It's something I had been wondering about, so this video (especially your pots of grasses) helped me pin that concept down. Cozy to us definitely includes contrasting textures, but it's more greens, rich colours & less dry looking things that are easy to keep dust & spider web free. I can see how the desert colours would contrast with your outside environment in Oregon (?) as Northwest USA is much cooler and wetter than here).
Interesting that you need the opposite. You're right it's the contrast between the inside and environment. Greetings from Germany where it is only 5°C yet.
I like your first reader’s comment which suggested a scarf around your neck! I live in south Florida and to me, it’s ‘freezing’ in the house when the temp outside goes below 70! In the real dead of winter(below 60!) I wrap a light scarf around my neck even if I’m just staying home. It feels so cozy just having my neck always covered! I hate feeling even a slight breeze!
As someone who lives in a colder climate where the temperature drops below 30 in winter, I add hand warmers to the scarf. They are ideal for desk work.
Wonderful tips, Mia! I love your space, and I have ended up, borrowing some of your ideas in the past. I think you’ve got a perfect blend of Cosy Minimalism.❤👍
Wanted to ask you what essential oils you use- love the idea of cinnamon and pumpkin and candles just seem to not be as fragrant as they used to be. I think a ‘good’ essential oil would be healthier. I’m assuming you’ve researched which ones might be the best. Seems like you can get essential oils everywhere now but I want to try a brand that will be true to the scent, not to mention healthier than some cheap concoction. Also, how do you use the essential oils in your home? One of those mist dispensers? Thanks!

Beautiful video! I love all your ideas and now my creative thoughts are flowing for my own home 💛
Awesome, I'm so glad!
Love these ideas! I will definitely be adding some to our spaces. Thanks so much and love your channel!

Sounds amazing. Yes, I'll have to get it from my daughter! (I would actually like it too lol)

@@Conval-wi5eh Soft wool leg warmers keep the calf muscles warm, help with cramping and feel sooo cozy.

Well, thank you very much 🥰
Beautiful! Thanks for the tips. I've been wanting to not only declutter, but go lighter. I have way too much color. 🙃
Glad it was helpful :)
Thank you.

My partner is really into sounds like brown noise and green noise. I think it just allows him to BE without any intruding or racing thoughts.
A kitty or a puppy
Soft, low volume music
Sorry, but I don't think you have enough color; it's rather bland. I do like the darker shelves with the green chair! The lighting is good!
To each their own. 😊
You are very beautiful woman and a human being ❤
