@@stephenking5852 Yes. I found out what pieces I already had in my collection to make the bank, and ordered the rest on Bricklink. It is way cheaper to build old retired sets this way. I was able to buy all the pieces for the UCS Imperial Shuttle for $200, the UCS Super Star destroyer for $320, and the UCS Sandcrawler for $185. If I bought the sets whole, it would have been around $2000 for all three. The only minus is that you don't get stickers, but I'm fine with that.
Even though they don’t have the Gringotts in the new set, if they made a Gringotts on its own, they could make goblins based on the Harry Potter CMF series
I LOVE this kind of comparison. First: cool to see you talk non Star Wars occasionally. Second: It’s absolutely great to see the progress lego has made. Third: I love the historic value!
I got the first set back in the day and just got the new one. I’m going to put Gringott’s at the end of the street like in the video, maybe on a baseplate with cobblestone elements added. I’ll put the other two older building facing each other behind the passageway to Knockturn alley.
There's got to be a new Gringotts for the next Harry Potter wave, it just makes sense if that's why they left it out of Diagon Alley, especially with its importance in the Deathly Hallows
I think this video was really fair. I've had friends ask about this new Diagon Alley set. They want the bank. I suggested buy the new set and just find the pieces to build Gringotts...
Really says a lot about how Lego’s attitude has changed towards making bigger, pricier sets. First set feels like them pushing their limits and thinking they needed to get a good cycle of variety to justify the price. Newer set on the other hand clearly aims for authenticity above all and just accepts that such a large diverse location like Diagon Alley is not possible to do justice without a hefty price tag. As much as this prices me out of sets like these, I much prefer this route, the newer set is excellent.
I got the original dragon alley set along with a lot of other Harry Potter sets from that time and the dragon alley scene really starts coming together if you add some of the accessories and other stuff from the other sets.
Jaimen Grove the thing is, they can make it stay still. It won’t need moving legs since it’s a UCS, so a stable base attached AT AT shouldn’t be a problem
An UCS AT-AT would basically be a somewhat bigger version of what we already have. There isn't really a point to make one if they just released one that's so close to minifig scale and with all the detailing and features you'd get on a bigger model. A Diagon Alley set with different buildings was pretty overdue at this point.
We have a $250, $130, $120, and $80 HP set coming out summer 2021. Safe to say I think one of them will be Gringots. The $250 set could be Gringots, Borgin and Burke’s, and leaky cauldron or it could be Hogsmeade. Makes a little more sense for Gringots to be about $130 since the other four modulars are ~$100 each. Unless you’re just a big time collector, best to wait until next summer to see what all is coming out
I got the older diagon alley for my 5th birthday in 2010 yes I did love harry potter. I really want the new set but still love the old one all in the older set you get these little shop things like signs and light posts. just wanted to say hi and that I love your videos!
If I wanted to compliment my Hogwarts Castle (71043), should I get the newer or older Diagon Alley? I was also contemplating getting both and keeping one sealed for a while. Also, thanks for the video. First time here. Exactly what I needed.
You know, with the inevitability of Gringotts, so many people are gonna be ticked that they spent $400+ on the first Diagon just to get an "official" version of it.
Haven't picked up 75978 but I have the older version. They are different styled builds and Gringotts is too out of scale with the larger builds although you could repurpose the old Ollivanders shop fairly easily.
I have a feeling they're saving gringotts for a Dragon escape set. If they had put that in here, it would up it to like 500 and that would put a lot of people off.
Ryan, is it me or is the cam is losing focus sometimes??. i think you move maybe quickier than usual from side to side which is most probably the cause of that lost focus. it's lesser pleasing to look at. This set aside, it's again a great comparison, thanks.
Since the old one is so expensive, it would make more sense to just buy the pieces on bricklink to build the bank. That would be far less than $600, and you could probably add things to it to make it fit into the newer set better.
Cool video. I don’t really care about Harry Potter but the new buildings are great. I just finished watching the movies and I don’t understand the hype. The books are better but aren’t even great either
I'm not a huge fan of the new Diagon Alley, I think its too big tbh. I wish they released each shop as a module like they do with Hogwarts. And of course its a BIG draw back that there is no Gringots! But that said, The old one was based on movie number 6, While the new one is mainly based on movie number 2, BUT you get tons more characters so you could create scenes from both movie number 1 and 6 too if you wanted.
I think Lego didn't make gringots bank in the new set because they might be saving it for the dearly hallows sets as it is important in the deathly hallows part 2 with the dragon
There was the old set that had Diagon Alley with Gringotts and some other shops, you might be able to get just the Gringotts because to get the old set now is a lot of money
Instead of spending $600 for the older set, just Bricklink the parts for the bank. That way only cost me around $80.
good choice
Probably going to get a gringotts next year so I would wait, but good idea
Niiiccceeeee
You mean like buy the individual pieces instead of the whole thing? What about the stickers?
@@stephenking5852 Yes. I found out what pieces I already had in my collection to make the bank, and ordered the rest on Bricklink. It is way cheaper to build old retired sets this way. I hope they make another Diagon Alley set so they can include Gringotts and maybe Knockturn Alley 🙏
Nah they shouldn’t make another they should just make those as stand alones
Or they could JUST make knocktern alley that you can attach to the back of the 2020 diagon alley
I’d rather just have a bigger and better Gringotts without the nocturne or maybe have them separately
The set would probably cost $800
Make a Harry Potter diagon alley modular series to make hogsheads and diagon alley or no turn alley
Even though they don’t have the Gringotts in the new set, if they made a Gringotts on its own, they could make goblins based on the Harry Potter CMF series
I definitely see lego making gringotts as a separate set.
Astony The God Hopefully that do, and hopefully it’s good...
This aged well
When you see the new Diagon Alley in a video: wow that looks cool.
When you see it in person: HOLY COW THAT THING IS HUGE!
I'd rather shop at Diagon Alley than at my local dead mall
We all do
Lucky you! My mall had a fricking shooting last month!
@@turkeysammich7629 this is America
I really hope they release an updated expansion with a new Gringotts, Borgin and Burkes, and Leaky Cauldron!
gringotts happened :)
If time travel is ever invented I’d use it to go back in time and buy all the Lego sets I ever wanted before they retire and become stupidly priced
Same here!!
LEGO Star Wars fans: 2021 set rumors suck
Me: I didn’t hear a Luke’s landspeeder
Plus can we get a phantom
Which one??

They might do the bank next year that connects to it (like what we thought would happen with Obi Wan’s hut and the Mos Eisley canteena)
I LOVE this kind of comparison. First: cool to see you talk non Star Wars occasionally. Second: It’s absolutely great to see the progress lego has made. Third: I love the historic value!
I just saw the new one at the LEGO store yesterday for the first time and it was MASSIVE!
Yes, the new one was HUGE!!!
Back When I discovered the old Diagon Alley I was like “this set is awesome!” But now I’am like ye it’s fine I didn’t get it now I got the new one
The buildings would look great in a combined display.

It's always fun to see a new video that just came out 18 seconds ago
Ik right

I can’t wait to build my diagon alley!!!
I love the lego harry potter video games and the newer diagon ally set is straight out of the games and it's just *chef's kiss*

Why is it that they can make huge sets like this, and not be able to release a UCS AT-AT?
The problem with making a UCS ATAT is the stability. It would be very top heavy and difficult to attach the legs to the body
Jaimen Grove the thing is, they can make it stay still. It won’t need moving legs since it’s a UCS, so a stable base attached AT AT shouldn’t be a problem
