  • Fort Lauderdale is a popular destination in South Florida. It is famous for its beaches, Riverwalk, and Las Olas Boulevard. In this video, I show how it is possible to get there with public transportation from Downtown Miami for $7.25. I start at the Bayfront Park Metromover station, transfer to the Metrorail at Government Center, and then take the Tri-Rail commuter train at Miami International Airport Station to Fort Lauderdale.

LOVE your Miami to Ft Lauderdale trip. My mom and I used to take the Tri Rail from the Cypress station in Ft. Lauderdale back to the one in Dania Beach area. Her car broke down so we had no choice.
Last time I was in FL I took the Tri Rail to Miami, was fun...I usually travel alone fin that way. Next time you should get off at the Sheridan street station, bus #12 would take you to the Hollywood Beach.
I started ro watch this last night and was waiting to see my mom.
I am sorry I do miss my mom she used to work in the area where you were. She passed away 2016 from Cancer.

Well AK you took this old man on another different adventure. Great value for the service for sure. The start was depressing, with the sight of trash and graffiti all over the place. I take a lot of tours world wide and one of my takeaways is this nation has the worlds biggest Litter's. less pride in thier homes and surroundings. I loved that huge American Flag thought. ! that picked me up a little. thanks for another interesting video Ken Hope you are enjoying your new home. thanks for sharing. ECF

Not that long ago, the experts said that without public transportation it would require a freeway with 24 lanes in each direction to get from Miami to fort Lauderdale. This looks like a great solution. The Ultra music festival shows one of these lines from above, built where it really works. Thanks to AK, everybody's gonna be moving to Miami and FL FL.

As a South Florida local now living in Central Florida, what you’ve witnessed was you went on Tri Rail on the weekends which meant from Miami Airport to Fort Lauderdale and back costed $5. However, if you went on a weekday the same round trip it would’ve costed $10. I think it shouldn’t be any different because you went one way so prices it shouldn’t really make any difference really.

The tracks seen heading north at 24:52 are the other MetroRail line, the Green Line heading to Palmetto. The freeway paralleling the tracks from about 1:15:00 onward is Interstate 95, and you get a brief glimpse at the Fort Lauderdale Airport at 1:31:15. (Tri-Rail was started in the 1970s as a commuting option while I-95 was still being built.)

This trip should be easier in the future because there are plans to extend Tri-Rail to the Government Center station, so you wouldn't have to ride MetroRail. If you're going to downtown Fort Lauderdale, Brightline might be worth the extra cost, since that's where the station is, whereas the Tri-Rail station is quite a ways west.

It is relativley easy to get there on the train, but then once you arrive, you have to figure out how to get around either by car service or bus/trolley. That is too much work for most people realistically. Unless you know someone who can pick you up.

I don't understand why New York seems so much more interesting. I have tried to watch videos from Miami and it's like blah.

    • @ActionKid

It's understandable. Some people just don't like Miami.

My guess is that Miami is more car oriented so places of interest are more spread out. Even though there are more high rises in Miami than in Brooklyn, there are much less street level activity in Miami, while Brooklyn has plenty of small usually independently owned shops, which makes the streetscape more interesting

Seems to be improving tho. Midtown seems quite nice. Last time I went to Miami (~2011) it looks nothing compared to now
