I'm 46 and have loved cartoons, animation, and drawing all my life. A few years ago I created an animated video from a song I wrote based on my career experience and became even more passionate about animation. I have worried that I am too old to do anything now with animation, but you have inspired me! It is never too late! Thank you.

I love the video, but it's not as easy as it seems.
Very little people are willing to invest in animation.
I'm an experienced motion designer and i'm still struggling to get any clients, after years.
    Everybody wants stuff for free...
I guess in the client's point of view creatives don't have to eat or pay rent.

It is time you get business like. Jazza does everything but plans better than most creative people. That is his real success.
Find out what you are really good at. Be brutally frank with yourself. Then find people who will fill in the other areas - Network like mad. Create your own (public interest) opportunities and find people to fund it in return for their promotion.
If this is not appealing, better find a job in your area of competence.
This is the the same advice I gave my son who is in college with animation.

    • @jippalippa

I see a lot of this in Los Angeles. Artists have to speak the same language as the entities who pay the invoices. "Deal Memos" to describe the scope of work. Payment schedules -and when it goes to collection. Who the payroll company is. Get paid 1/3 up front. Document change orders and get approved before starting work. Use collaborating software to clock in and out. Generally, dont turn over a Final before that last check clears.

I really wish I could get into animating seriously. Sadly I only have time to do short little animations in between art pieces, and attempts at creating comics. They're never really good, and I barely improve with each one, but at least I'm doing something.

It kind of depends with views on TH-cam. I see millions of views on some of the ugliest animations, even for a walk cycle. Most people who are watching Jazza's work are fans or interested in the industry. 200k is a good number, he's not trying to compete.

This is the internet. Saying "Not a single dislike" is tantamount to "I dare you to dislike this!" It's the big red button that says DO NOT PUSH. Without the sign, no one cares. WITH the sign, everyone wants to push it.
Moral of this escapade? You are personally responsible for all the dislikes. :P

This is amazing Jazza, just simply amazing !! the only solid thing i've made is a short film back in 2014, still haven't made anything as solid since, it's frustrating, but i love seeing stories like yours, The Tale Teller is amazing and it's really a gem. Great work man.

I don't know if I have said this before, but I enjoy your tutorials and walkthroughs so much! Your instruction style is both easy to follow and entertaining, and your voice is pleasant to listen to. I've watched tutorials where the narrator seemed bored or confused with the subject, but you always sound enthusiastic and excited about your work. Which is contageous.
I want to get into animation so badly! I have so many stories I want to tell! Until now I've been using Pencil 2d and a VERY old version of Photoshop to learn animation. But I finally got a copy of Flash, so I will be going over your instruction videos with a fine tooth comb now.
Thank you so very much for taking the time to make these.

Woah. You composed the music as well? That's amazing. You did an awesome job! I don't always have the time or energy to put into my artwork or animations, but I hope some day I can be at least a fraction as amazing and dedicated as you are, it's very inspiring to see a small group of people do something so amazing!

Awesome! I already comment about it but... I'm 42 years and started juste a few weeks ago to draw and try to make my dream comes true (create an animation). Everything you show here is just inspiring. Everybody in a point of their artist carreer need a reference, somebody who point the way. I found that guy! You definitively show me the way. The downside of it... seeing how much work it take knowing I can't give that amount of time to this (I got my job - I'm Chef cook), but I'll surely do my best to go on and step by step... reach my goal! Thanks a lot Mr Jazza!

Great video. It reminds me that, no matter how daunting a project may be, the end result can be incredible.
I mean, I got a little misty-eyed when Jazza explained that he wanted to create something he could be proud of--but dang, when he talked about how much Mini-Jazza loves The Tale Teller, it just wrecked me.

WOW... just WOW! What an amazing work. I did not know you were also a talented composer and musician... that is great. I'm glad you have been repaid of that massive work. You definitely deserve all the gratification you can get because you've gifted us with such a wonderful piece of art.

'The Tale Teller' is an incredible piece that is the dream of all creators. I say this because you as the creator had full control over your piece, and that being said, it came to life because of you. It is definitely a creation I can only dream of, being brilliantly written and wonderfully crafted, that I hope one day I'll produce my own beautiful piece.
'The Tale Teller' has touched so many hearts in many ways, and that by itself is a lovely homage.
Thank you very much Josiah "Jazza" Brooks for showing your outstanding talents to the wonderful people of this world.
I wish you well in all you do :)

Jazza, regarding the part with splitting the files so you will not get corrupted files and lose your work in extreme cases, have you considered / tried using a binary repository? E.g. jFrog. Then you could "save" versions of each file and never lose old work.

props for the animation done on the juggling! i know it was such a small scene in the short film but as a juggler and an artist i am surprised whenever i seen someone actually having an animated juggler doing real patterns that could be done :) and not just having like 20 balls going in a circle haha but props in general for the making of the whole amazing film! :)

Being able to create animation and having a child stuck to your work and enjoying it deeply like that has to be an amazing feeling that is worth all the riches of the world ! Beautiful and very inspiring =)

Jazza I just want to say you are an amazing influence on my life. I am a Game Design major with a focus on art, currently in my 3rd year of College. I frequent your channel for amazing tips on drawing and animating and your incredible talent never fails to give me the ambition to continue drawing. I still have much to work on, and I am very busy with other life things, but I still greatly appreciate every single video you post on this channel; and I hope you make it big some day.

I know the feeling of awe that your creating, I know it well, I'm not working on animation, but I am working on a graphic novel. It's by just me I don't need a team just determination, a pen a pencil a ruler and a camera. Where ever you are and who ever you are you can create a story, get out there be creative, maybe someone else will like it.

What makes this great is the story. The fact that you care about feedback. Feed back doesn't necessarily change your wallet much. It changes how you feel the simple fact you made the story was amazing.
But the fact that you took the time to make a documentary was amazing. It shows dedication. It also works both ways. I love this video. It also gives you money for you and your family.
The sheer fact you did this since likes and comments aren't your money it's your watch time. an only ten minute animation that touched hearts. didn't give you as much money as someone yelling at a screen shooting zombies.
before this I had thought you where a artist with a sense of humor. after watching this I realise your dedication and ability to pass with flying colors.
The fact that your son liked or loved it is amazing. having a child at such a young age loving something so deep. Then fact you did it along with your freinds gives it even more value.
I'm a happy subscriber or Drawing With Jazza. And a TH-cam user in general. I hope you read this comment or someone else to know how truly great this is.

    Great video!!
I have watched the Tale Teller 100 times by now and I can honestly say that by following the vlog and watching this video, being aware of some of the hard work and feeling behind it, it makes me appreciate it even more…
Jazza is a natural tale teller and his art is just one of the ways that he can share his stories…
    Thanks for being awesome!
Ps: By the way, you have more than a few fans here in Brazil

Hi Jazza. I have a question. It doesn't concern this video but I didn't know where to put it so I'm using the latest. I only know how to draw a dragon, I just know that creature's anatomy but only in one point of view. I love dragons and will draw much more of them but I want to draw other things, like foxes, I got an obsession about them now. I do own a lot of anatomy and how to draw books and over the past 7 months I have been practicing foxes, dogs, cats and other creatures to draw, but each time I sit and want to draw something out of my head, not copy of someone else's art, I can make so many mistakes that even at one of my drawings, my bf couldn't figure out what it was. (It was a winged cat, the wings were good since I drew thousands of wings for dragons but not the cat). I don't know what to do now, I really want to do my own art other than dragons but all I can do is drawing someone else's work. I'm honestly stuck, should I keep doing references or do more drawings like the discouraging cat{It really bumped me} or something else?
