You know, I just realized why Oliver is _so_ good at this. He's an astrophysicist. His literal _entire career_ is centered around figuring out strange, sometimes unintuitive mechanics without any sort of instruction.
Oliver: Performs practice tests with TNT and redstone behind a safety wall away from his house. Also Oliver: Performs a ritual to summon a literal demon right outside his house.
I was talking to someone while the video was playing, not really listening to it, and I looked at the screen and saw the three skulls sitting on the wood construction and screamed. Then the person I was talking to and I had a short argument about whether he would figure out about soulsand which I won a moment later when we both heard the Wither spawning.
To be fair though, TNT is _obviously_ dangerous while the Wither has very little to hint at its danger. And the painting was inside his house. It's kind of an unfortunate side effect of how Mojang hinted at the ability to spawn a Wither.
@@StuffandThings_I mean just the combination of souls sand and skulls is very ominous and summoning something from those 2 things doesn’t exactly give friendly vibes
I have never actually considered what minecraft would play like to someone entirely unaware of what’s in it. My whole arc with this game was half people in vc showing me the ropes and half keeping up with the patch cycles, but I didn’t realize how organically it could actually flow to someone completely fresh.
I just got my fiancée Minecraft as a Christmas gift as she wants to try one of my hobbies (gaming) this year. It’s been super fun watching her learn how everything works in the game. We have been playing together but I’ve basically just followed her around and done what she asks me to do and it has really changed my perspective on the game as I have ended up doing stuff I would have never done myself (i.e go find a bunch of flowers to decorate). She has gotten frustrated though a few times with how sandbox-y the game is and she feels like she is out of things to do so I think next time I’ll show her the advancements page to give her some direction, kind of like what Oliver was doing
Oliver's ability to not rage quit and keep pushing after everything falls apart is very admirable. I've quit minecraft so many times after i lost everything and didnt go back for years. Lot of respect
Other than some dumb pushing of luck towards the end (which I’m pretty sure is a sign that he was wanting the series to end anyway), this man genuinely is the smartest new Minecraft player I’ve ever seen. The way he puts information together so quickly is genuinely impressive, I don’t think he’s a genius or anything but he definitely has an above average intelligence. Easily my favourite minecraft let’s play I’ve watched in years! And great compilation too
This playthrough could genuinely be one of the most useful playtests the game has ever received. Devs should watch the supercuts at the very least to see what needs better tutorialization because that's always been something Minecraft suffered from.
He’s also just charming with an honest personality. He plays games to have fun, which is surprisingly rare on TH-cam. He doesn’t care about what the viewers want or think, he just loves interacting with us and having fun while posting his experiences online.
I think that's my favourite minecraft let's play. For the first time, I see someone playing the game without knowledge of the game mechanics, which is breathtaking to me. Furthermore, it showed how much the game has evolved to have all this tricky hints, this complex game mechanics and yet being able to finish and understand without former knowledge at all. And I believe that this let's play, is the best way to discover and play minecraft like a real adventure in an unknown world with its own rules. Seeing someone discovering it for the first time, with so little hints brings me a new beautiful vision of Minecraft. Thank you for your experience, it was a real journey to watch.
Agreed, he made the world feel so much more alive when he went through it. To him, there are still endless secrets to uncover, every item or block has that potential. For what to me is static and well trodden path of progression, is for him an adventure of discoveries and exploration. Really gave me a new look on the game as a whole
This was a journey I wasnt ready for, I'll definetely follow Oliver, thank you so much for this "resume" of his journey, if it wasnt because of you, probably I would have never found this piece of love letter for Minecraft players, I am speechless, I have been all the day watching the three parts nonstop. 1:28 I am actually shocked, literally at a loss of words. you gotta be the first man in history to figure out the wither, MY MOUTH WAS OPEN SO HARD, MY JAW HURTS
@vakk985 I have seen it in a video theorizing how could someone possibly figure out game mechanics in their own, just from game mechanics, they mentioned the achievements and the ruined portals for figuring out the end and the nether respectively, they also mentioned the painting but it was so stretch I thought nah, it can not happen, but that's exactly what happened here
PiroPito had only slightly more information. He had a friend give the hint "Painting" and worked the rest out himself with lots of trial and error. And PiroPito also gloriously, tragically, built the Wither in his house.
The bit that makes me laugh is that this is the same guy that went out into the desert and built the lazy equivalent of a nuclear test bunker.. to test 2 blocks of TNT. Seeing him later summon a wither in his garden was like.. welp, lol
30:30 dude realises he's going to die and decides to take a few more steps just so he can die right next to a lava pool and burn some of his stuff, smh
Rubedo playing at 29:25 onwards is SO funny, especially because the magma slime jumps into the minecart literally as the apex of the song happens. it's like the magma cube is going off into the sunset at the end of a movie or something, only to be called a bastard and cut down by oliver
People are talking about how unfortunate it was that he summoned the wither right by his house, but honestly, i think the worst moments were watching him die to fall damage over and over while having the elytra equipped. He literally could've flown away, but instead, he lost it all.
so frustrating seeing people in chat who definitely just looked up this stuff get like upset at him for not figuring out this stuff on his own which is damn near impossible. how can they not put that together?
I don't think anyone is actually seriously upset at him, if anything, people are being ironic and exaggerating because they know he doesn't read chat. But in most cases I see people get disappointed by how close he is to figuring something out before swiveling in a completely different direction, which isn't exactly being upset at him I would say.
