    Barry, your reviews remind me a lot of how automotive journalism used to be. Factual, concise, and straight to the point. No holds barred and critical while remaining largely impartial. You are also a very good presenter, Top Gear in the 90's would have been blessed to have you. 10/10! I have this seat on order and it should be here tomorrow!

    Barry, thank you. I ordered this seat a week ago on a whim after almost spending $1000 on a bride seat. Then I started searching about this seat and wasn’t sure if I made a good choice (kinda backwards). I asked in Reddit and realized a lot of people use the NRG seats for sim racing. I’m glad I found you made a review as well, as I trust you opinion.

    Another great review Barry! And it sealed the deal for for on the seat that came with my Obutto Revolution sim rig. Not in the same class as your setup but I'm happy with it overall. Obutto seat is not great however. Came across a suggestion for the NRG Prism and you happened to do a nice review. Thanks for all your efforts and supporting the sim racing crowd!

    OMP makes a few sub $500 seats that are good and more readily available. Just picked up a TRS-E for less than $400 out the door from a local race shop. I would definitely recommend sitting in the seat before buying to make sure it fits you correctly. Just because it looks good online, doesn't mean it will fit your body comfortably.

    Thanks for this, Barry! I’ve been looking to replace my older Recaro seat I pulled out of my Honda S2000 to install on my sim rig about 5 years ago and didn’t want to spend $800+ on a new Recaro or Sparco. I went with the NRG FRP-310, it doesn’t have the flake finish on the back, but does have a nice dark gray shiny matte finish. So glad you reviewed this seat, thanks again!

    Picked one up from autoplicity, looks good and seems to be comfortable. Mounting it was an absolute nightmare. The holes were drilled 5/16” higher and 1/4” forward one side to the other. Lots of shimming and second guessing.

  • @RG-dt6ok
    @RG-dt6ok 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The problem with the brackets is that as attached, the maximum distance from one side to the other for the holes(slots) is 15.5". Standard slider distance is 16.0". So unless you bend the slider bar to reduce the distance between or use some spacers between the brackets and seat, standard sliders will be difficult to use. Fortunately, the P1-X has brackets you can get that have a section that angles in so the side to side distance from hole to hole should fit a standard slider unit.

    • @alextimo
      @alextimo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can't you bend the bar of the Sim-Lab slider to change its width?
      Or is that just too difficult to do such that you're better off ordering the Sim-Lab seat brackets?

It appears you have 3 27” monitors as well so I’m assuming that not having a 179 degree fov isn’t that big of a deal which was something I was worried about previously having to up my monitor size.

    So I’m new to sim racing and automotive sports in general. I am currently overseas and just playing on a laptop with an Xbox controller but am thinking of going all out on a sim rig when I get home. I’m thinking of doing an all Fanatec setup and at this point am trying to figure out what chassis to get.
    I am also an avid flight simmer and would like to be able to mount my collective, cyclic and pedals as well as a thrustmaster warthog Hotas setup for fixed wing. I know this is a long list of requirements for one cockpit but I’m hoping that someone here has done something similar and can point me in the right direction.

      Currently looking at the JCL v2+, RSEAT and Trak racer. I really like the idea of the modularity on the JCL but that is definitely pushing the limits on my budget.

    • @alextimo
      @alextimo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@craig3665
      The general recommendation is to do an 8020 modular setup, such as the excellent P1-X offered by Sim-Lab. If it's just a Hotas, you could easily and quickly add it on and off with a couple attachments. If it's also rudder pedals, you'd have to get more creative, but people have done so before.
      It's definitely expensive when you add everything up. One approach is to get a great frame like the P1-X and pair it with a really inexpensive, but still good, setup like the Logitech G29 - which is only $200-260 for the wheel, three pedals, and an H shifter. And from there you can upgrade it over time to high-end equipment like ProtoSimTech or Hueskenveld pedals, Fanatec shifter, Hueskenveld hand brake, and a direct drive wheelbase like the SimuCube 2. You'll never need to replace the frame, and while it may take longer, you'll save money in the long run by skipping the mid-tier Fanatec stuff and going direct from the super affordable G29 to the high-end gear that you'll probably want to upgrade to eventually anyway.

    Are you seriously telling me there's more to a *quick release* (50+ minute video) than a racing seat (15+ minutes)???
    They're both about the same when it comes to ease-of-use, build quality and cost...so why two drastically different length videos?
