I 100% share your analysis! The lac of regular civilian buildings is a weak point for LEGO City. This is why 2009’s City Corner with the Pizzeria was one of my favorite sets as a kid from that era to play with. I think LEGO severely underestimates how much kids love buildings to play scenario’s in and when they do include one it is barely 4 studs deep. Let’s hope this set will start a trend of more buildings in LEGO City!

As cool as these Lego City sets are, I can't help but feel like they are a watered down friends or Ninjago City. The competition for city building lines is so fierce now, and City's current style of "futuristic/modern" buildings just doesn't compare to things like the Friends apartment or greenhouse. It's still a cool set though, and I really love the road plates!
Im gonna pair this set with the shoping street from 2021, which has a bike lane, and the city center set from 2021. And maybe get 2 of the apartment building set. Just to flesh out my city which I'm building from 2019ish-now. And see how this will work. I also agree with the guy in the video. Too much fire/police. Even to this day with 2019/2021/2022. They flooded the line with it. The factory set is nice and perhaps will work fine with this set as well. The road plates makes it possible to put buildings across from eachother on the same road.
Theres a lot to love about this set so i'll try to make this somewhat brief. This set is awesome, and so many little detains and such actually make me think this belongs in a lego city! I think its smart that lego is making city sets be more flashy and colorful while modulars are reserved for the calmer buildings and serious collectors. This set is full of fun and dare i say... worth the price :0
Gosh, I hope Lego realizes we want commercial/ civilian buildings now! I think the business angle is a great opportunity not only for play features but for city-building. I hope this opens the doors to suburbs, gas stations, restaurants, laundromats-generic stuff ripe for Lego’s take. Stuff kids will see in their town and recreate in lego is such an underused model.
Lego City has personally been my favorite theme from Lego but straight up the old Lego System Town sets offered so much more variety that The City theme lacks today. Either way im actually glad this is being released

She wasn't a crazy LEGO fan before I knew her, but she's always loved Star Wars. And that's such an easy way to get someone into LEGO, so it worked out well. It'll be great to have her fact-check any Star Wars stuff I do in the future xD
This reminds me a lot of the ninjago city large modular sets and with some customisation I think this could easily fit in with them, I would love to see someone do this
@@CheeseyStudios I got an issue with the apartment building from the get go. That bike lane. It ends at the edge of a 16 plate. While the bike lane with every other set is inset so you can never put it straight next to a road plate set unless you offset it. I think the bank set would most likely be the best set to use to combine kind of since it is built offset itself. Could offset the bank with the road plates and have 8 studs wide to connect the apartment... Well that is my take on it. But I do not know if you own the bank set. But that is the best set to pair with the apartment building.
In my opinion, Lego CITY always had tons of vehicles and police, but nowhere for the actual civilians to be. Might even pick up this set as it looks stellar on its own.
I hate it - looks like Friends 2.0. Since LEGO was accused of reinforcing gender stereotypes with cotton-candy Friends' world, they had two choices. And unfortunately instead of fixing the Friends, they're pushing 'equality' in opposite direction trying to make City series another absolutely unrealistic, infantile colorful world. Understandable from the marketing point of view, but unbearable for me.

Friends is way better then city if you ask me, I mean friends is certainly colourful but at least it’s not all “pink & purple” with only sets related to cooking and fashion, it’s way more gender neutral/inclusive with its cast, colours and marketing, also it’s builds are just WAY better looking, ( been that way since 2018 ) of course you may disagree, I respect your opinion even i certainly disagree
This is really my favorite city set of all time, very impressive. I have no idea what they were thinking: making only police, national guard/water patrol and firefighters. They made an entire Lego video game of police. This really seems like a turn for Lego city. Awesome review!

@@xraystyle8893 Imagine if they did a monorail for City next year... I'm not joking. With the new modular system they made it would make it incredibly easy to fix. The module plates are 16 long 8 wide. The rail pieces used in for example the city of lanterns are 8 long. I'm not sure about the curves and their dimensions but they probably work on a similar math. Making it incredibly easy to make a basic monorail system that adapts with the regular city. And they could do a separate pack with rails to give you options to extend it and increase it. It doesn't even have to be that expensive and doesn't require to be motorized. I still remember set 6399 from my youth. And if only they just did it.

LEGO City didnt really need home sets. We have creator to take care of that. :P It will always botther me people forget other themes can COEXIST and any set is a basicly a partpack. What I do like this iset is acepting once again 8x8 and 8x16 modules that are amazing system and needs to be used more and more.
I like REALLY WANT these new modern city sets (Please cover the new friends "City Square" set. It has such a cool feature of being able to make your own apartment in three different styles. Already on sale here in Australia for $185 (US$125) from Target. One thing I found unrealistic about the set is that a vet clinic would never be located on the 2nd floor, because not all dogs know how to walk up stairs.
I can't really buy Lego anymore, because I don't have the room, and I'm broke. But if I could.. I would get this one. So.. Many... Fun.. stuff! My favorite part might be the pizza shop... It looks nothing like it, but it reminds me of the Pizza place from Lego Island. If I did get this set, I'd have to remake the little Pizza van to go with it. If Only I had the room and dosh... lol. At least I can enjoy how other people review it and incorporate it in their layouts. :3 P.S. Love your Minecraft series btw.

I always loved the city sets as a kid, they still interest me to an extent nowadays but not nearly as much. Seeing what they've been doing to revitalize the theme the last year or so is just astonishing, the shift from the old to new is always difficult but they really went all out and it payed off so much, the latest sets have been so fleshed out and little kid me would be totally wowed to see them. Go lego city
I do really like the idea of this set. However, I wish it were more realistic. To me it feels like it's trying to be Ninjago city. I Do like some of the lower levels, but the top ones just look to messy for me.
I think LEGO City is definitely a bit too modern and futuristic. This is definitely not a perfect example of a real-life structure, and I do agree the sets could be more grounded
I love it's near future astectic and also love that there is a Content creator studio! Which I do believe we will become more and more common so it's nice to have that representation! Edit: I do get your point what tuber can afford an apartment like that?
2021 had the shopping street and the main street set. You got a dodjo with pizzeria in the main street, the shopping street is all smaller buildings with a bike shop, and a bakery. as well as a tiny piece of workout park. I actually suggest getting it. Also since it has a bike lane you can just smack it next to this set and have a continued shopping street. The house set from 2021 is okay but it is a bit bare. The new family house is much better and perhaps having 2 or 3 of those will do fine. The apartment building. If you can mass it. Go for it. I myself also own the last 3 sets from the creator line that are buildings. And they have similar footprint of 32 studs/16 studs. They will do fine as another part of the city center.
Great review I just bought this for my bladerunner theme future city. It's better than ninjago theme if City carry on designing great sets like this Robert from Sunny England 😊

I rarely am interested in the Lego City sets and only have two in my collection but I really like this set and think it’ll look great next to the 3 in 1 Noodle Shop, Townhouse and Cafe, and Toy Store sets.
This is my most highly anticipated set of the year so far. I’m glad to see that Stuntz Dino rider helmet is included in the comic book shop. It’s too bad. The rest of the mini figure isn’t as well.
When I was a kid and had a Lego city with my best friend we always got the normal city sets and bought the creator 3in1 Houses, we would have loved something like this. But I do have to say still my favorite Lego city set got to be the forest police station :)
I like the overall look but i think the individual shops are a bit odd. The hotel and the vetiranary clinic look good, but its strange to put park maintenance on the second floor, and the unboxing studio is a bit silly.
Wow, I think this set is busier than a modular one! And it seems easier to build for a youngster. This is a perfect LEGO set to build in family with little children, I guess. I love how colorful it is (I tend to like colorfullness or whiteness. Or purple-green-ness XD XD ).

it’s kinda a cheesy theme, but have you ever looked at “hidden side”? i have a couple of the sets, and despite lego clearly just trying to jump on the AR trend at the time, i think that they’re creative and overall quite playful
People always call them trading cards, but Ninjago spinners cards are only really for playing, because every set had specific cards that worked well with the included character's stats, so there was no reason to trade when you know exactly what cards come in each pack

Its like a toned down but still amazing Ninjago City set. It's smaller yet still has amazing detail. I genuinely feel like picking this one up.

I do really like the idea of this set. However, I wish it were more realistic. To me it feels like it's trying to be Ninjago city.
I Do like some of the lower levels, but the top ones just look to messy for me.
I think LEGO City is definitely a bit too modern and futuristic. This is definitely not a perfect example of a real-life structure, and I do agree the sets could be more grounded
I love it's near future astectic and also love that there is a Content creator studio! Which I do believe we will become more and more common so it's nice to have that representation! Edit: I do get your point what tuber can afford an apartment like that?
Some more houses or apartment buildings would be nice.
I don't know how to feel about 90% public services and 10% shops.
2021 had the shopping street and the main street set. You got a dodjo with pizzeria in the main street, the shopping street is all smaller buildings with a bike shop, and a bakery. as well as a tiny piece of workout park. I actually suggest getting it. Also since it has a bike lane you can just smack it next to this set and have a continued shopping street.
The house set from 2021 is okay but it is a bit bare. The new family house is much better and perhaps having 2 or 3 of those will do fine. The apartment building. If you can mass it. Go for it. I myself also own the last 3 sets from the creator line that are buildings. And they have similar footprint of 32 studs/16 studs. They will do fine as another part of the city center.
Great review I just bought this for my bladerunner theme future city. It's better than ninjago theme if City carry on designing great sets like this Robert from Sunny England 😊

I mostly collect Lego Star Wars stuff as an adult ow, but kid me would've gone crazy over this set, lowkey jealous of kids today getting such fancy city sets haha

Modular system plus a blend of Friends and Ninjago. A game changer! The downside: how well does it fit in a traditional City layout? Good one LEGO!
It’s cool, but it does follow a disappointing trend. The tech store just doesn’t have any checkout desk, something that a lot of city sets lack as well

I rarely am interested in the Lego City sets and only have two in my collection but I really like this set and think it’ll look great next to the 3 in 1 Noodle Shop, Townhouse and Cafe, and Toy Store sets.

This is my most highly anticipated set of the year so far. I’m glad to see that Stuntz Dino rider helmet is included in the comic book shop. It’s too bad. The rest of the mini figure isn’t as well.

There's definitely a bit of that going on here - a very clean and bright cyberpunk for sure, but I can see it!
That helmet in the comic store has to be a reference to green goblin
Glad to see they are making big City sets that aren't the usual police/fire fare, however I'm not a fan of the neo-futuristic design.
When I was a kid and had a Lego city with my best friend we always got the normal city sets and bought the creator 3in1 Houses, we would have loved something like this. But I do have to say still my favorite Lego city set got to be the forest police station :)
the only good creator/city buildings are the corner buildings . the flat ones are only like 3 studs deep!

At first I hated it, this review made me appreciate it a bit more, but I still find the color choices very meh. There's just too many of them.

I’m excited!! Lego is doing a bunch more to include everyone here too. I see a Minifigs with a trans colored hoodie I might have to pick up later 👀
I like the overall look but i think the individual shops are a bit odd.
The hotel and the vetiranary clinic look good, but its strange to put park maintenance on the second floor, and the unboxing studio is a bit silly.
Yeah, the unboxing studio was a bit too much for me too...
Would have gone crazy for this as kid. Sets with actual houses that don't have huge holes in the back, no way!

Wow, I think this set is busier than a modular one! And it seems easier to build for a youngster. This is a perfect LEGO set to build in family with little children, I guess.
I love how colorful it is (I tend to like colorfullness or whiteness. Or purple-green-ness XD XD ).
Most kids will just use their imagination but I’m surprised Lego didn’t include at least one staircase somewhere in there.
Or even an elevator module or something, yeah.
How did nobody mention the vet and the barber are like mini replicas do the modular series counterparts. This set is full of references!

This set looks good until you realise that every Modular up until the Hotel last year was cheaper than this (obviosuly excluding Assembly Square).
It's worth pointing out though that this is much larger than a modular building o.o It's a big big set!
@@CheeseyStudios it’s not price per piece wise but there’s some big pieces in this one. i think somebody in the community is gonna need to bring out some scales too see if this set competes with them in sheer mass.
What's lacking is at least one security guard or a police booth. You can't call an urban downtown playset without these.
The city I live in has a pedway system so people can get around downtown without going out in bad weather. I need this 😭

As much as people don’t like the new road system, I think the compromises are reasonable and it allows kids to connect sets much better
Indeed. The modularity is great and gives kids a great foundation for creating their own builds
it’s kinda a cheesy theme, but have you ever looked at “hidden side”? i have a couple of the sets, and despite lego clearly just trying to jump on the AR trend at the time, i think that they’re creative and overall quite playful
People always call them trading cards, but Ninjago spinners cards are only really for playing, because every set had specific cards that worked well with the included character's stats, so there was no reason to trade when you know exactly what cards come in each pack

@@CheeseyStudios I should probably add that most of the Ninjago card 1×2 tiles included in sets so far have been the character cards, that show your chosen minifigure's SP (spinjitzu power) and golden weapon of choice, as well as their name and some unique artwork
