This vlog was so cool I never knew Grace Hopper existed til now. Also quick tip, if you're going to be talking with background music, a good rule of thumb is to make the background music half of what the audio is so if people are talking at -6 db make the music -12. The music was too loud for me sometimes but still cool vlog!
My tech community is the Women in Technology International organization. I've always wanted to attend Grace Hopper! I hope one day I'll get to. Thanks for sharing!!
Hey I'm Japanese born Japanese software engineer working in North America and also making TH-cam videos about Japan, computer science, software engineering stuff, traveling. It's so cool that you say "cool" a lot
You are a huge inspiration for me. I am studying system engineering at the moment and i lose the motivation very quickly because of whatever. So, watching your videos help me to focus to reach my goals and i appreciate that. I just want to let you to know it. Keep going!
Heyyy I'm glad you like what you do. I hope everything continues to be awesome for you. I agree that we definitely need more women in tech, if that's what they want.
I'm a member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers! It's a nonprofit that helps with the pipeline for Hispanics in STEM. It's not only for tech buy it's an amazing community that has helped me so much throughout my college career!
Grace hopper made it possible for computers to compile in english. Without her, we wouldn’t be seeing a lot of developers because back then, languages were difficult too much numbers and symbols. The languge she create is called cobol and it is still around after 50 years. Banks use it all over the world, governments use it, transportation systems use it, airlines use it, nasa uses it. Basically the most important stuff to run a country uses the language she created. But the developers are old and retiring.
Mayuko, sounds like a Janpanese name. The videos are filmed nicely. I mean it's very interesting to see how engineers work in other country with different culture. I am also an engineer in Hong Kong, but still fresh. That's why I enjoy watching video created by engineer TH-camr. Great Job !!!
so great! would love to attend one day. I have only started looking into tech in the past year, but have been able to network with others through meetup groups. I've especially enjoyed my time with the Pyladies in San Diego and can't wait to do more!
The past day has been horrible but after watching your videos, I am just more determined to finish my iOS Development course. Please keep making videos
Hey, i thought about something... what if you make a discord for our community to discuss, share code related things, so we can learn from it, someone agrees?
Hi, I'm a senior who is about to head into university. I plan to head into the computer science major of whatever university I end up in. I know the basics, but what can I expect from a CS major?
Hey Mayuko, i doubt that you will see this, but if you do- I just want you to know that before finding your videos I was very unhappy with my choice of studying CS. Even though Im on my third AND last year of my studies, i felt very burnt out and ready to find something different to major in when i start studying at a university. After watching your videos, i am now more motivated than ever, and I can not wait to get back into coding and programming. Thanks a lot!
Aww this is so awesome. I've been part of a 'female students in tech' network for a year now and it is actually a dream of ours to find a way to go to the GHC, but we're from the Netherlands, so it's a bit more difficult for than US citizens I imagine haha. How did you manage to go? Did you just buy tickets or did someone provide them to you?
Hey Mayuko Can You Help a Beginner who want to be Software Enginner and want to work in top companies like Google or Facebook or Microsoft. What do you suggest to learn and what programming language should be known?
i am also senior student of computer science in my Uni, i was wondering whether i should keep studing in master after graduating or will be working in company with more experiences. Would like to have some advices from u.. Love u
Hey Mayuko! I love your videos! Im about to start my journey to become a software engineer and im very excited but i have a question i would love your take on. Would you recomend i take computer science or software engineering? What the differences are and whether or not you prefer one over the other and why. Thank you!
Hi Mayuko! I thought Grace Hooper event was only for students... Did your company bring you there? Or how I can go next year? I'm software engineer and tech entrepreneur. Cheers and thanks for the video!
Hi Mayuko, just came across your channel, thanks for sharing what is like to be a Software Engineer with everyone :) I work with mobile development as well, but working remotely from Brasil! We do need initiatives like yours to awake people's curiosity to the tech/development field! Thank you!
1) You're gorgeous! 2) Definitely enjoy Game Developer Conference! From massive to indie games, always a pleasure to see what's coming up next. 3) CES because gadgets!! XD
People that know how to read and write English understand it but I can see why you're having trouble with it. Keep trying my good sir, you'll be more than below average some day. No shame in trying.
Hi mayuko! I noticed that your very first video have the title in portuguese. That makes me wonder if you are brazilian or from other portuguese speaking country. If you are, a video telling the story of your imigration to the states and more specificaly to sillicon valley could be a nice one! im sugesting because i found myself in this same situation. I loved your videos, +1 subscriber!
Hi there! I'm not Brazilian or speak Portuguese actually, the title is actually thanks to someone who kindly contributed their translation of my video! Wish I could give you a better answer in terms of immigration to the states, maybe someone watching this video could help out and share their experience?
Hey Mayuko! My name is Kristina I am at twelfth grade now and just applied for studying CS. I wanted to ask you to compare studying at college to working at this field. Your videos are great! Lots of love ❤️
So what's your stance on gender-specific-conferences mayuko? This sort of just got into my mind and while I do believe it is good there's conferences that are focused primarily on women, I also believe that this is a really sad thing. What are these conferences doing better to attract the female tech audience that other conferences don't do? As evidentally showcased, you can get a conference full with women, so why is it that most conferences still have the default statistics of like 95% male attendees and 5% female? What're your thoughts on that? =)
I'm in college for CS and there are a lot of women in the major for the first year or two, but honestly most of them don't do very well and switch majors by Junior year. Many of them go into CS because it has lots of opportunity and in highschool they were pressured to do to increase diversity in the industry without actually being into programming for the sake of programming. I think diversity is a good thing in the programming world, but forcing it just creates more mediocre programmers.
The exact same thing can be said about men, except for the diversity aspect. I remember a lot of them dropped out too. It’s just more apparent with women since there aren’t lots of women in CS in the first place so only a handful are left by junior year.
hello Mayuko I am shishier from bangladesh.I am going to start my computer engineering in chongqing university of science and technology in china. wish me luck.
I don't understand grouping by sex. Even if I was a male minority in whatever industry I was in I would never put myself in the group of "men" and think I had something in common just because I was a man.
I only know that at the place I'm studying there are 10%female and 90% male student of computer science. But in psychology there are 80%female and 20%male students, still there is no male in psychology conference...why is that?
You know, I'm a feminist, and it's a fact that women are treated differently than men escpecially in industry sectors that are dominated by man, which is bad and needs to be changed, but I just don't think women in tech conferences are the way to go :/
i see your point, but you also have to look at the treatment of each group in either field. is there a way that men in psychology are treated differently than woman in psychology? the women in tech conferences were created as a way to develop essentially both a way for women in tech to grow (in numbers) and to alleviate the nerves and discomfort future engineers/programmers/etc might have about going into a male dominated field, as well as celebrating the feats women have accomplished in a male dominated field. i would like to say that i'm not in the tech field (yet) as i'm just a student, but my male friend who goes to a big technical university says that a lot of the female students there are either outcast or ridiculed for being in the CS field, so oftentimes it's helpful to have conferences to give women the confidence to go through with their plan without feeling like they're alone! IF men are treated differently in psychology, then i say YEAH do a men in psychology conference! but i know nothing of the psychology field, so i can't give a say on what should or shouldn't happen.
Exactly, sadly women are often ridiculed and outcast, but a women in tech conference doesn't change anything about that. And while I think it's important to celebrate feats women have accomplished(as well as feats men have accomplished), doing so at a conference where also man can attend, thereby man can see that women are not to be looked down upon, seems way more reasonable to me. I don't know much about this conference. Is it also for women who aren't in tech at all? If so, I guess they atleast get more women to start something in this field, if not, I rly don't see the point of it at all.
Those who don't know about Grace Hopper. She is the first one who find a first bug in a computer
actual bug* ;P
neofitoff Right 😉
Negative. She is just the person who coined the term "bug." There have always been "bugs" in computers since they were first invented.
the end of the video with the one-on-ones was AMAZING. It was so cool to see all the women and their different roles in the community!
This video dropped at the right time,I needed some inspiration in my day today
Yay!!!
So good to see that little by little women are being able to do whatever they want, in any field of work they choose! Gratz for the vid and thumbs up!
Grace Hopper 17 was where I got my post-grad offer to work at Activision! the conference was such a wonderful experience!
You and your videos are always an inspiration.thanks for these videos.

WTF? Cobol was created by multi companies and designed by 6 peoples and I'm almost sure that Grace Hopper is not one of them
What She did was be pioneer on the concept what that COBOL was developed
I love the BGM at the end!

They have a bootcamp near where I live. Also, what are your thoughts on bootcamps? Do you recommend them?
baja blast depends on the boot camp, do more research before signing up for one
I was a high school teacher for 12 years and did a boot camp. It changed my life. Now I've been a front-end web developer for a year and a half.
What country and city do you live in? I really liked the content of your videos.
Looking forward more ladies into STEM !
Awesome!
Great video! 😃 The audio levels were jumping a bit, though.

What is the point of a women in tech conference?
If you've worked in the industry, just think for a second why women in tech is needed.
