- Chick-fil-A Spicy Chicken Sandwich
Ingredients:
- 2 chicken breasts, sliced in half
- 2 1/4 tsp ground white pepper
- 5 1/2 tsp paprika
- 3 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 2 1/2 tsp mustard powder
- 3 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp salt
- 1 tsp MSG
- 1 1/4 tsp caster sugar
- 140g plain flour (all-purpose flour)
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 150ml milk
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1/2 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tbsp BBQ sauce
- 4 potato buns
- 1 tbsp butter
- 16 slices dill pickle
- peanut oil for frying
Method:
1. To prepare the brine, in a large bowl, mix 1L of water with 1 tsp ground white pepper, 2 tsp paprika, 1 tsp cayenne pepper, 1 tsp mustard powder, 2 tsp garlic powder, and 1 tbsp salt until fully dissolved. Add the chicken breasts, cover, and refrigerate for 8-12 hours.
2. Make the sauce by combining the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, yellow mustard, honey, smoked paprika, BBQ sauce, and 1 tsp garlic powder. Mix well and refrigerate until needed.
3. Prepare the seasoning in a small bowl, mix together 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp MSG, 1/4 tsp caster sugar, 2 tsp paprika, 1 tsp white pepper, 1 1/2 tsp cayenne, and 1/2 tsp mustard powder.
4. Prepare the flour dredge in another bowl, combine 140g plain flour, 1 tbsp caster sugar, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp MSG, 1 tsp paprika, 1 tsp white pepper, 1 tsp cayenne, 1 tsp mustard powder, and 1/2 tsp coarse ground black pepper.
5. Remove the chicken from the brine, pat dry, and season both sides with the seasoning mix. Dip each piece first into the milk, then into the flour dredge. Heat peanut oil to 180°C and fry the chicken for 7-8 minutes or until golden brown and fully cooked. Once removed from the oil, season again with the seasoning mix.
6. Toast the potato buns with butter. To assemble, place pickles on the bottom bun, add the fried chicken, and optionally apply the sauce directly on the chicken or serve it on the side.

Bold of you to upload this on a Sunday!
It’s cruel to make us crave Chickfila on a Sunday like this
But they are 12-14 hrs ahead of us - so it's Monday for them!
@@muzziklady2536 Yup, it's Monday here in Aus / NZ
It’s so you can make it at home 🤗
Should have uploaded it during Pride month!
They aren't in Australia because Australians call them to set up a business deal first thing Monday morning, but it's still Sunday in the US and Chick Fil A is closed on Sunday
Good one 😂

Marinating in pickle juice was the best thing I ever did.
Pickled jalapeño juice is even better. 😉
@@VoodooVikingbuttermilk is best.
But a dupe of chic-fil-a is with pickle juice
How fun was that? Lol
@@CesarSandoval024 Love pickle juice. Would have the snack bar at the skating rink fix me a cup of pickle juice over ice. That was back in 1973-1975. So refreshing
Looks great ! To make it taste authentic, you need to wait for 45 mins in the drive thru queue to truly enhance the flavour !
More like 8. The lines look like the world’s longest but they have 4 lanes and very efficient employees and you’re in & out in 8 minutes even if 4 lanes of drive-thru traffic wraps around the building and extends well into the parking lot.
@@natalie6117 well I waited 45 mins on a Sunday and didn’t even get a meal !
I have never ever waited more than 10 minutes at a chick fil a drive through.
@@iantaylor1341😂
@@iantaylor1341 Well for that matter I’m surprised it was only 45 minutes then! I thought it would’ve been at least 1,000 minutes!!
That flipping the pan to get the buns on the table was clean
Every time I want to fry something I just remember how much excess oil I’ll have to throw out and how many dishes I’ll need to clean (especially for chicken). But damn that looks good! 😮
You don't need to throw out the oil afterwards - just strain it into a container and you can reuse it several times
Uh, just re-use the oil? You probably can keep it for 1-2 week in a well-closed container. I dont get it when people say they gotta "throw out" the oil as if the idea of keeping it for other uses like stir-frying or frying other things later is that gross.
Oh also if its still too much leftover oil, use less oil and fry half-submerged instead of fully submerged. A bit harder to do, but saves good amount of oil.
You know you can use cooking oil a few times, right? Just strain it and keep it in a good container and you're good.
You're just wasting oil if you do it like that.
How often do you think they change fry oil at fast food joints or restaurants? Try 1x a week if you are lucky (thats 500 orders of fries). 1x a month is more like it. They just add to the old oil.
Get a wok. Trust me you’ll start finding stuff to do w it. I fry in mine all the time, keeps the seasoning perfect
This looks 10000x better
The filet definitely looks better, but I love how the bun steams in the foil pouch. I'd wrap this bad boy and let it sit on the counter for about 5 minutes.
And it only cost 3x more and took 1 hour to make!

I used to work at CFA, and long story short, the kitchen doesn't do anything with condiments. It's very efficient to leave that up to the customers, and you get less complaints about the over or under use of sauce.
That makes sense.
Actually chef Andy the main reason why they don't put the sauce inside the chicken sandwich is to prevent it from getting soggy so instead they let you dip the sauce on to the chicken sandwich or dip the chicken sandwich into the sauce bowl cheers mate😊
Dude, you nailed that!
Pressured fried. It isn’t juicy but it is watery chicken.
@@1337billybobCalm down Heston Bluementhal
@@gurudeshmukh8780 It's just how most chicken chains do it. Pressure fried chicken. Also I think chick-fil-a is more watery than moist. But I prefer chicken thighs in general to breast meat.
You nailed the “look” but I bet yours is way more tasty!
Yours looks so much better than the ones we had at Chick-fil-A!
Looks amazing! Please make Loko Moko for my sister Noam 😗

Ooo, very evil genius vibe to post this on a Sunday, so we have to follow your recipe. Well done, Andy! They look good, will have to make!
Finally a meal from my culture!!!
Trust me, Chef... you don't want CFA there. Your version looks a million times better.
Words of wisdom.😊😊😊
Chef Andy is the BEST
Chef thank you for sharing your incredible talent!! I bought your book too!! I was wondering where to score the pan you used for the chicken??
Oh my gosh Andy that looks so good yummm
I love this new series. Please post more of them 😂
You had me at spicy! So did Mitch, with chitterlings and American soul food! 😊🙏
Looks great!
Need yo try this. That looks way too good.
I'm definitely making this!
I need the recipe. Yours looks so good
Andy !! I need that recipe sir, please for the love of God!
In the description mate.
Thank you for seasoning the actual chicken and not only the breading
Looks yummy 😋
I'm 100% on board with having a dipping sauce for a burger: it doesn't make the bun soggy, you get to control the ratio, and let's face it food it just a vehicle for sauce so let's give it a starring role
I agree with you 💯 but He likes the sauce ON the burger
Excellent Chef!! Looks way better than our Chick fil a.
Awesome job, Andy 👏👏
@chickfila YOU HEARD THE MAN!! 🐔
Nothing better! ❤
Let's be real, your homemade versions probably taste way better than any fast food place.
Please do the Baconater next, we absolutely need that in Australia
He is the best always ❤️.
Beacuse this Way the sauce doesn't squirts out of the Burger all over your Hands and is allways in a big enough amount at the right spot. ❤
I guarantee you Andy that the sandwich you made there is a thousand times better than what you would get at Chick Fil A. I cannot fathom why they are as popular as they are.
🎉🎉🎉they also refuse to come to Quebec so we eat out at Quebec Chicken Restaurants
Pure ASMR 💫
Us putting the sauce makes its special to us! I love. A Buffalo chicken Sammy
Chick-fil-A food is okay but it’s the service that keeps you coming back. Good lookin sando!
"my pleasure" 😅
Recipe please 😊
Ey wow yummi 😮
Oh kithey aa teri amii
Totally agree with the sauce. It needs to be in the buns huns
they allow you to add the sauce so it isn't soggy
My single favorite aspect of their food is the absence of any thick gelatinous mayonnaise based sauces slathered all over every bite
I think the sauce is separate so it doesn't get soggy. ❤
バターの塊を鍋に押し付ける演出好きだなぁ~
That is the legit one: Ohh yummm ! Andy!!
Someone write this down!!! I need it!!!
They don't actually pre-marinate. It just has a different coating before going into the fryer. They also don't put pickle juice in the chicken they just use pickles that are still in pickle juice so it tastes like its incorporated more than just on the exterior. They also don't add sauces because it slows down the kitchen to add sauces, & they don't get them wrong over a sauce this way. Plus, you get to add as much as you like of course
If you're someone who has issues with their hands or are unable to do it of course the cashiers or a front of house worker would happily help with saucing your sandwich but really its just a timing thing. Every single chic-fil-a prides themselves on their quick drive thru times. They work as quickly & efficiently as they possibly can to get as many through as possible during rushes. They're also one of the only fast food places that has competitions hosted by managers or even owners. They will challenge their employees to cut down from previous times or see how many they can get through & if theres room for an individual friendly wagering, they encourage that with some sort of "prize" for the winner. Fun fact, they also hire as young as 13. And for minors in high school they got away with paying them $4.25/hr when i worked at one in 2012. I was a minor but had been emancipated, dropped out & gotten my diploma early & hired on at 16 but made $7.25 because i was a full time employee. Really surprised me they paid them so little.
Mmmm. I would love that food !
They don’t butterfly the breasts (but they pressure fry them which would be hard to do at home) and they don’t put the sauce in the sandwich because everyone wants their own flavor. (Real ones know the best sauce is actually Honey Roasted barbecue, don’t @ me).
And it’s ALWAYS 2 pickles. Slightly overlapping never separate. Good work!
Guarantee that this is better than anything you ever get from Chic Fil A
Thank you for not using hellmans mayo, you have gained my respect 🙏
Hey Chef, what spices do you mix for the marinade?
I love me some Chick-fil-A yes.
As an American I'm not sure why they put the sauce on the sando either. Looks good andy
Mate, you don't need those in Straya - you've got Belle's Hot Chicken!! 🐔
Pro tip: cover the patty in the sauce. Then put it between the bun. That's why they put the sauce on the side.
Nice one Andy. But is it as good as the buttermilk chicken in your book? That has become a standard at our house. Cheers mate.
It actually helps with preventing the burger from becoming soggy. It is also more fun and tasty to have the sauce at the top.
I dont know what I am talking about. I think I am hungry 😂
G'day mate! How about making a Chicago style pepperoni pizza puff!
I tasted some delicious pears from Aussieland recently!!
Kenji fried chicken basically, even put a bit of the brine into the dredge for extra crispy bits 🤤
Chikfila only uses 2 pickles, not 3. But you did get their "dating, not mating" policy correct (pickles side by side, not overlapping, and yes, that is what they call it in kitchen!)
legendddd here from 🇪🇸
As an American, I can confirm the authenticity of this recipe.
As an American I can confirm that Chick-fil-A is the only good fast food we have 😂
I have been searching everywhere for the grilled chicken marinade from pollo campero. Can you make it? I can find the fried chicken all over but people sleep on that amazing grilled chicken.
Looks awesome! Could you make the in‘n‘out double double or at least the sauce? I absolutely devour it, but living in the EU there is no hold of it
The noise of surprised approval of something he just made himself 😂
Mashed peas and Irish stew. Martabak manis
The spicy sandwich stands on its own; no need for sauce
In the food atrium where I used to get chickfila they just put sauce there and you can take whatever you want😂
Andy, please make a video showing the proper way to bread chicken. No matter what I try all the breading falls off.
I love the fact that he doesn't measure everything down to the level tablespoon
Drool drool
Haha I do that spinny thing everytime when toasting buns
I think, Chick-Fil-A being a Southern entity, they would marinate the chicken in buttermilk. They don’t put the sauce on the sandwich because not everyone likes it. I prefer mine with mustard and mayonnaise. Not everyone likes their savory food sweet.
Yum...
Would be awesome to see you make Nashville hot chicken and waffles
Those buns were perfectly toasted, geez Andy...
It’s not called a burger in the US. But yes it’s amazing and they are so friendly.
I rarely eat fast food...cuz of obvious reasons. But Chick-Fil-A is my guilty pleasure. Their food is high quality and top notch. I enjoy their Chick sandwich every damn time.
The chicken is not high quality - contains msg which is awful for you.
@@user-zz1ty4ie2xyou clearly don't read scientific research. 🤦♂️
Somebody call Uncle Rodger 😤😤😤
I promise you, homemade chic fil a is much better than the actual stuff. No waiting in overhyped long lines and none of the BS that comes with the company. It really is the pickle brine that makes it. Plus, homemade is far healthier.
Day 3 for asking turon with halo-halo on the side🇵🇭
the reason they don't put the sauce in the sandwich is because there's a whole bunch of sauces to choose from, and people normally pour their chosen sauces on their sandwich
I thought you had a random kabocha squash sitting next to your chicken sandwich in the thumb nail 😂😂
Yeah we get this in Canada and it’s my fav burger ….🍔 yum spicy chicken burger
From what a gent I know who owns a chic fillet says. The sauce being put on the sandy is it will undermine the texture they strive to serve. Everyone can add the sauce if they want.
Mate, next time you make this add pepper jack cheese and a slice of tomato, that’s what we call the Spicy Chicken Deluxe, enjoy my friend
Was one of those spices MSG? Bc that's the real key to making it taste like authentic Chick-fil-A.
Right I'm 10 videos in and I've ordered fried chicken. A burger and pancakes 😂
I assure you, whatever Andy made is 200% better than the garbage CFA sells here. So, so many better options.
