what a shame, such a fun game, this update feels like more an resignation letter then an update almost nothing new and everything that remains has been diminished, fairwell to all the memories and joy it gave while it lasted
here are some reasons to not play rn: changes: - deleted literally almost every previous weapon (literally resetting progress, again...) - basically p2w now (weapons, xp etc) - cells and builds are terrible now (cells are less effective, get destroyed when changed, no lanterns) - scaling is messed up (lvl 55 on lvl 60 island is like fighting a bear with a broken stick (difficulty "normal" btw), also very cool if you need parts to upgrade armor from behemoths only on lvl 60 like bloodshot shrowd or tempestborn stormclaw) bugs (all I have noticed so far) - lanterns STILL WORK (they work like before if you dont use a transmog, ui is hidden behind the omnicell, drask lantern works exactly like the shock hammer legendary lol) - aetherite sometimes doesnt even give you the weapon xp (literally scammed) - escalations are completely messed up ( amps are worse, "reccomended 40, no xp on lvl 50+" still gives like 200, malkarions geyser attack crashes the game, urska slams you into the ground) - behemoth attacks and ai are broken (animation doesnt sync with hitboxes, sometimes they attack instantly) - changing builds with supply crate resets legendary ability (VERY op with the hunting pass repeaters, basically infinite dinos possible w this) so let this be a lesson: dont change a running system and I really thought they would improve the game lol
Yeah, I too had hope. Welp, this is more or less an official goodbye from me too. I am probably going to play up until the point of fighting the new behemoth, and then never log on again. What actually baffles me is that back when Umbral escalation came out, I felt like the game had peaked and that the game would never be as fun ever again. If only I knew how right I would be back then... I guess most of the good parts of the game really were tied to Old Ramsgate huh.
Nah you can’t even pay to win, paying gets you the weapon and can (albeit insanely expensively, like more than even whales are willing to spend) level it up, but it will take more than 10,000 kills to max out one weapon So the game is literally bullshit now

A change like this... should have been brought to the public in a broader way and they "should have prepared the players for it". Unfortunately, it was not well received by the public. And the game that was slowly dying, lost its last chance to "breathe on life support". As a player who played since the beta, and even helped the translation to my native language, this is just SAD.

Them taking the weapons isn’t really all that bad since what they gave us was all unique weapons The problem is that they took all of our weapons and only made 3 for each class (some not even) and made it so that all new ones will be required to be paid for in the future or require an insane amount of time to acquire f2p and that all the weapons are no longer customizable outside of transmog Genuinely 90% of the weapons previously in the game were basically copy pastes with mostly useless abilities and no interesting gameplay outside of legendary and uniques, sure you can argue that when all weapons are unique none are but that’s not how i see it Gameplay for newer players is far better (purely in combat) than it was previously The only big problems with weapons now are 1. Insane grind to upgrade 2. No customization and no cell slots 3. Purely not enough of them 4. Not being able to craft them If they fixed the behemoth ai and the performance issues and also lessened the grind considerably i’d think about picking up the game again but i sincerely doubt any of that’s happening outside of the performance issue fix
My biggest issue with the update is how hunt pass gives no platinum. Thats just crazy to me as now the ONLY way to get platinum is to splash the cash. This means that its completely impossible to f2p anymore as there are weapons locked behind premium hunt passes. If i could change 3 things it would be to 1- make the premium hunt pass give enough platinum to buy the one next season. 2- make weapon tokens more accessible. Also instead of just buying a weapon, you would unlock a crafting recipe to actually make it enjoyable. 3- make cells reusable (this was such a dumb change) If they change these things it will be amazing as I genuinely love the actual gameplay of the new update. I just simply cannot get behind it with all the scummy monetisation that it has at the moment. Keep monetisation to cosmetics please.
The issue is that this is a f2p game. Unless they reach a certain popularity, they can't actually run a full of 100% plat back policy due to the few players they have not spending money on anything after getting the first 1000 plat. Fortnite had the popularity to run this kind of system, for Dauntless it was unsustainable.

@dokutah7374 I do think that's worse than the leveling, yes. Tbh the leveling doesn't bother me that much since i play the game for the gameplay, not to see a number go up underneath my weapon. To be fair I admit that I'm the odd one out in this respect, but would appreciate if you didn't just baselessly insult me because of it. I do just genuinely think the game having paywalled content is just worse than slow levelling. Plus the premium battle pass gives insane leveling materials. It's not enough, but if they took the action I described while limiting myself to 3 changes, making f2p be able to get the battle pass would at least somewhat reduce the level grind. Edit: also sorry didn't mention about performance issues. I'm a switch player and honestly performance has been better in this update than before, so to my experience this isn't an issue. Bug wise, yeah there are alot of bugs. The devs already said they're working on this, but the game is still playable (minus the boreus fight). Maybe I'm just lucky and not experiencing many bugs, but for me I haven't found it to be that bad.
Next patch is scheduled for 12/19 and im sure it’s probably just to fix performance issues and some glitches. Might be a few months before this game feels good to play again and that’s a big if they fix it.
Man weapon crafting is what we played for...last i play is during intro of escalation protocol..had tons of fun and grind all the thing then i quit..years later then this shit dropped 😂😂😂
DUDE!!! I was thinking the same 3/10!! with the mention of anything below 3 equals 3, because thats the "at that point who cares" category, so if someone says its 0/10 im not gonna disagree. (I am lucky, 2 weapons are exactly what i like: Netherlights-dodgespecial, Thunderstorm-parryspecial, and they both heal. I did play some weapons to 20 some to 35, no xpstones used, no talents used, as a veteran it was mostly fine. I havent tried end-game content yet)
I fell in love with Netherlight CB and Twin Suns, both easy to swap between, both do wound so you can get more speed, but it wasn't enough to keep me wanting to play at the moment
So much hours of griding, crafting, and plauing this game for the weapons and armors. Just all dissappeared (except for the armor) and now its a cpmply pay to play for a certian type of weapon.
this is actually so sad, dauntless is one of my most played games, I would come back to it at least 3 times a year, 2 months each time, its super replayable, but now its just ass. the cell system is by far my least favorite change, it was so much fun to make builds with a ton of different buffs, now its like 1 or 2 buffs per build
It's such a shame to get that new lightning hammer and weapon talents (which could of been modular like the true repeaters) we had to get the rest of this update.
I logged back into the game for the first time in months of not playing and i was immediately confused to see why most of my weapons had suddenly disappeared... My most used weapon being Thrax's war pike is now gone and i laughed to see the weapon tab in the store was present. I... wanted to give this another chance but i think starting up the Monster Hunter series again is better for me in the long run.
All we wanted was Weapon 8. I even took the time a couple of years ago and wrote an entire description of how to make a bow work. Made mods, made special moves, even came up with a mechanic that the arrows would "lodge" into the behemoth when shot, reloading would cause you to kneel down (scaled with attack speed) and you reach out your hand to recall all of the arrows back to you, dealing wound dmg on exit.
The weapons themselves are nice, in fact I love using them, but the problem is they have no weight to them, there is no sense of accomplishment for acquiring "The Living Branch", it's just given to you. Even the special weapons are just something extra you buy. There's no longer a quest to unlock the Godhand. And speaking of the quests, some are just broken now. I still have a rumor quest from before the update, and it requires me to kill frost monsters with a weapon that no longer exists. They did not properly think things out, and the only thing that actually got better is the escalations, and it's entirely because they went untouched with this update.
Weapons feel amazing when they work, but they don't have enough opportunities to cross-combo on a couple of weapons, like axe. The weapons alone weren't enough to carry the patch
The game essentially doesn’t exist anymore. It was bought by a crypto company and now it’s basically a mobile game. No content, no depth, full of bugs and everything is locked behind paywalls. Move on, honestly. I loved dauntless, but It’s in the past unfortunately.
@TheeTippp They released a steam store news blog recently. All it did was cover what the new systems were. Some funny slip-ups were in there though. "We believe the new systems allow for a great change in build creation, some free *(some paid)*" "We appreciate all of the positive feedback on the weapons" "We felt veteran slayers weren't compensated enough, so all players will be getting the silver sword, golden claws, and 4 exotics weapons if an account was made before the update" They even glossed over weapon merits and didn't acknowledge the complaints, just moved past it after explaining the new system as if we didn't know
I actually like the new update and upcoming content. Ppl complaing about pay to win havent played more then five seconds because you can make free plat now like crazy.
Though i wasnt a fan at first, i might be the only one enjoying some of the changes. Sure theres annoying bugs (A F***TON), lost reforges (Near 300) and gear but even with my backed up catalog of games, im getting my fix here ❤
My biggest gripe as a axe main was not being able to change the axe throw on axes and the charge not bring shared between said two axes if you were dual weilding them and that alone made me quit again
Weapons should definitely have more than a single combo to change, it's roo limited. They wanted people to "use moves they normally wouldn't" Disregarding the fact that they're not used for a reason. Like axe x4 light attack
@KenseVT yea they could have also changed said combo into something better or buffed it like the stamina drain for the 4x light attack hold is insane for the actual times u can use it and by the time u get to it half your stamina gone and u can do like two hits max
What hurts me is that a week before the update i went through the process of downloading this game and trying it for the first time as a mainly monster hunter and god eater player. Played like four to ten hours of the game and loved it. The update happened and I thought my game was bugged since the little bit of stuff i had was gone. Foolishly i waited two days for a patch or something only for this to be permanent. Now i dunno how to feel about this game. It runs real bad cant even keep a stable 60 fps at 1080p medium. All in all, bad update I will come back some time next year.
They could've had thousands of great ideas by ipening a q/a or even looking at their fans' suggestion videos. They shit their pants like some demented toddler and demand praise? For this? It's like seeing someone kill your pet dog man. Like sure, he chewed up your shoes and did a few things to annoy you, bit you still loved him. What happened the the game is wrong. Weapons like Charrogg, Phaelanx, and many others had the ability already made, just needed some buffs in dmg and cooldown, but PHX labs ignored them. They were still fun for odd builds. Number tweaks are much simpler than all of this
So I did some math and it turns out that each weapon craft has a real currency of about 20 US dollars (19.91 €)!! If you really want to craft a new weapon in this update make you do your homework on that weapon cause its gonna cost ya
I don't care about the weapon changes. I don't care about the cell changes. But the absurd platinum costs... Just for context. One single weapon in the shop costs 100 weapon tokens. 100 weapon tokens cost 1500 platinum. You can buy 1125 platinum for 10€ ... but that ain't enough, is it?😂 So you have to buy 3150 platinum for 25€ Yes of course you can buy 200 weapon tokens now, but let's just assume you only wanted to get one weapon. This make a single weapon from the store equivalent to 25€ And I am not even gonna start about Aetherite... Funny enough.. if they charged less money, they would've probably made more than they do now.
I feel like they overhauled the entire game because they felt they had to do something drastic to get players back... that's simply not true though. We didn't need a full and insane change to dauntless, we needed fixes to what we had and more content to explore. Cells were integral to how you built your character. You want a shield heavy build? Go for it? Wanna have a ton of stamina? Do it! Wanna focus on crits? We've got that too... or had that...cells feel so weird now... useless even... the weapons having unique abilities is kinda nice, but deleting 80% of the weapons we grinded our rears off for feels awful now, like I wasted my time... I feel like they could have done things so much better, but chose arguably the worst approach outside of shutting the game down entirely... which if player counts plummet... is gonna happen anyway... I love Dauntless, I want the best for the game... this is far from the best... and I truly hope the devs solve this issue... even if it's ignorant to believe they will
The weapon EXP part is what finally turned me off. I'd only been playing for like, 2 days. I figured I would try it out. I just finished the quest to level a weapon up to level 10, and as my reward, I'm shown new places to hunt that require... ... LEVEL 20 WEAPONS!? You're going to give me access to areas I can't even GO to yet because I need to grind TEN MORE FUCKING LEVELS on my weapon!? I have to keep hunting these low-level monsters ad infinitum after I'm LONG done with them!? WHY. WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA!? In Monster Hunter when I hunt the same monster like, 10x I have a full armor set and at least 3 different weapons I can use on the NEXT level of monster. Dauntless doesn't seem to wanna do that. It was bad enough I couldn't craft new weapons. It's bad enough that most of the monsters feel un-fun to fight with my favorite weapon (hammer) because they don't give me any FUCKING TIME to do my FUCKING 4-HIT-COMBO that I have to do! It's bad enough that I can't even practice with weapon types I haven't unlocked at the training grounds EVEN THOUGH THAT SHOULD BE EXACTLY WHAT THE TRAINING GROUNDS ARE FOR But you're telling me I have to put up with all this shit for 10 more levels before I can do anything new!? Absolutely FUCK that.
I would rather have the had reset legendary weapon. But the same system. Feel like I need to pay for get the weapons I want. 👎But the legendary abilities are awesome 👏 I feel more disconnected from the crafting, the old system was better

Weapons feel amazing when they work, but they don't have enough opportunities to cross-combo on a couple of weapons, like axe. The weapons alone weren't enough to carry the patch
The game essentially doesn’t exist anymore. It was bought by a crypto company and now it’s basically a mobile game. No content, no depth, full of bugs and everything is locked behind paywalls. Move on, honestly. I loved dauntless, but It’s in the past unfortunately.

@TheeTippp They released a steam store news blog recently. All it did was cover what the new systems were. Some funny slip-ups were in there though.

They even glossed over weapon merits and didn't acknowledge the complaints, just moved past it after explaining the new system as if we didn't know
I actually like the new update and upcoming content. Ppl complaing about pay to win havent played more then five seconds because you can make free plat now like crazy.
I probably not even gonna return if they try to update or fix this update I will only return if they give the old dauntless back and improve that
Though i wasnt a fan at first, i might be the only one enjoying some of the changes. Sure theres annoying bugs (A F***TON), lost reforges (Near 300) and gear but even with my backed up catalog of games, im getting my fix here ❤
My biggest gripe as a axe main was not being able to change the axe throw on axes and the charge not bring shared between said two axes if you were dual weilding them and that alone made me quit again
Weapons should definitely have more than a single combo to change, it's roo limited. They wanted people to "use moves they normally wouldn't" Disregarding the fact that they're not used for a reason. Like axe x4 light attack
@KenseVT yea they could have also changed said combo into something better or buffed it like the stamina drain for the 4x light attack hold is insane for the actual times u can use it and by the time u get to it half your stamina gone and u can do like two hits max
What hurts me is that a week before the update i went through the process of downloading this game and trying it for the first time as a mainly monster hunter and god eater player. Played like four to ten hours of the game and loved it. The update happened and I thought my game was bugged since the little bit of stuff i had was gone. Foolishly i waited two days for a patch or something only for this to be permanent. Now i dunno how to feel about this game. It runs real bad cant even keep a stable 60 fps at 1080p medium. All in all, bad update I will come back some time next year.
My biggest issue is that the sword just doesn't feel good anymore, the combos are so much worse, both visually and functionally

The changes to cells feels so terrible.
They could've had thousands of great ideas by ipening a q/a or even looking at their fans' suggestion videos. They shit their pants like some demented toddler and demand praise? For this? It's like seeing someone kill your pet dog man. Like sure, he chewed up your shoes and did a few things to annoy you, bit you still loved him. What happened the the game is wrong. It's bad and they should feel bad.
From Dauntless to Dauntplay no BS no copium just hard truths cells are 1 time use and in a game where you hunt monsters for a living you cant craft weapons made out of said monster some weapon skills don't fit in said weapons and most of the stacking buffs are gone
Ok... but its not like we used any of the old weapons lol. Not saying its good but we only used like 2 of each weapon type before.
@@timedmundson6619 This because they never took the time to buff the other weapons. Weapons like Charrogg, Phaelanx, and many others had the ability already made, just needed some buffs in dmg and cooldown, but PHX labs ignored them. They were still fun for odd builds. Number tweaks are much simpler than all of this
So I did some math and it turns out that each weapon craft has a real currency of about 20 US dollars (19.91 €)!!
If you really want to craft a new weapon in this update make you do your homework on that weapon cause its gonna cost ya

I feel like they overhauled the entire game because they felt they had to do something drastic to get players back... that's simply not true though. We didn't need a full and insane change to dauntless, we needed fixes to what we had and more content to explore.
Cells were integral to how you built your character. You want a shield heavy build? Go for it? Wanna have a ton of stamina? Do it! Wanna focus on crits? We've got that too... or had that...cells feel so weird now... useless even... the weapons having unique abilities is kinda nice, but deleting 80% of the weapons we grinded our rears off for feels awful now, like I wasted my time... I feel like they could have done things so much better, but chose arguably the worst approach outside of shutting the game down entirely... which if player counts plummet... is gonna happen anyway...
I love Dauntless, I want the best for the game... this is far from the best... and I truly hope the devs solve this issue... even if it's ignorant to believe they will

The weapon EXP part is what finally turned me off.
I'd only been playing for like, 2 days. I figured I would try it out. I just finished the quest to level a weapon up to level 10, and as my reward, I'm shown new places to hunt that require...

You're going to give me access to areas I can't even GO to yet because I need to grind TEN MORE FUCKING LEVELS on my weapon!? I have to keep hunting these low-level monsters ad infinitum after I'm LONG done with them!? WHY. WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA!?
In Monster Hunter when I hunt the same monster like, 10x I have a full armor set and at least 3 different weapons I can use on the NEXT level of monster. Dauntless doesn't seem to wanna do that.
It was bad enough I couldn't craft new weapons.
It's bad enough that most of the monsters feel un-fun to fight with my favorite weapon (hammer) because they don't give me any FUCKING TIME to do my FUCKING 4-HIT-COMBO that I have to do!
It's bad enough that I can't even practice with weapon types I haven't unlocked at the training grounds EVEN THOUGH THAT SHOULD BE EXACTLY WHAT THE TRAINING GROUNDS ARE FOR
