bro, this is by far your best video on the pros and cons. salute! i been in the street wear fashion business as well as building other brands in Philadelphia for the past 15 years on my own. i have a decent size print shop with 2 new 6 color 6 station vastex 100"s 2 new 1 head 12 color swf embroidery machines, an icolor 800 dtf , a Graphtec vinyl cutter, many computers, 4 heat presses 2 hat presses and you just talked about my whole 15 year career on the pros and cons of inhouse over outsourcing etc. everything you said I've been through. honestly, you just broke down my experience for the past 15 years in 10 minutes. i truly thanks you for this vieo. you just made me decide which way to go. i also have a few clothing brands of my own and i also help build other brands and i print for basically any type of business, small big, non profit, schools etc. its a nightmare trying to do it all. my best printer just overdosed in my shop august 26th 2020. he was a vey well experienced printer, they are hard to find. as of now i am doing all the printing, designing, burning screens, dealing with deadlines and customers, paying 2 employees for help. its hard out here. the main word you said was that you need structure. i have all the tools and the talent is here, no one sees my dream can help their dreams. it just takes that one break which we had early mid 2000"s but the team at the time got lazy cause they thought we made it with 1 vegas project show and writing 500k in orders in 4 days. now with all the up's and downs with my business, i still maintain many connections in the fashion and street wear industries but i really gotta focus on my brand and thats where printing and designing for other brands kills my main focus, time flies and now we missed a whole season. i just wanted to let you know this video inspired me so much to just go hard on my brand but also balance it with other jobs to keep the lights on, employees paid and all the other over head until i start making enough sales from my brand to do all that. i was just talking to y employee about how excited i get to print my designs as apposed to printing someone elses. i even saved this video to watch anytime i feel unbalanced on what i am really trying to get out of these past 15 years. i built i good reputation in Philadelphia as to the go to shop for building brands. but i gotta get back to my dream of having a up and coming new brand for the world to see. i know a lot of people in a lot of countries which will help me go global. God willing. thanks for your intellect on this industry and spreading the knowledge. God Bless🙌

I love the fact that you’re not a gatekeeper. When I start up my business i will be shouting you out every single time. All of your videos are so informational thank you!
I’m in the middle of starting my brand and decided to buy a brother SE1900 embroidery machine. That way I can do hoodies, hats, beanies and more. Feel like embroidery is a little more premium and easy to start with.
I do both, I out source and I still learned Photoshop, heat press, and even sewing. It’s work but it’s been good. My headrest part is finding skilled workers I can trust and reliability .
Right on time, man. Very helpful. Often we see a video and it's just pretty much, "JUST DO IT NOW!! Don't be afraid to get started...just start it. Open a website and get it going!". Okay....that's so easy to say to make for "click bait", but the true inner workings of a business online (materials, website, equipment purchase, supplies, blank sellers, HTV material, cutters, transfer manuf to do heat press..who? Price? How Fast?, business licenses, merchandise pricing, etc.) these are all things to think about. Thanks SOO much for this MasterClass video tutorial. So appreciate you!!
I just bought a brother gtx pro full setup. I own 2 businesses and use apparel for both, tired of low quality, high wait times and no control over creativity. Been watching you videos am I'm falling into a different category from what it seems. Such as the type of buyer for equipment, I plan to push the current apparel lines we have now along with my network of local businesses to provide apparel for them. Going with bella canvas blanks since I have wholesale through them and pushing artwork to blend in and feel organic with our designs. No more creative box. Thanks for your content 🙏
From one Rich to another the content and wisdom you share is excellent! I liked and subd and will binge watch all your content. My wife and I are in the initial planning phase of what direction we truly want to go in as far as custom made designs and watching your videos have really helped. Keep putting out great content!
Hey Rich first off your videos are great and appreciate you doing what you do, I have a few questions. Im overwhelmed by all the different videos on starting up a lil t-shirt hobby/business. I just don't know what equipment I can get just to start off with my budget. I really aint familiar with the different types but I really like the colorful images you print out on shirts, but also wna make shirts for business with just the one color. I believe I need heat transfer vinyl? I want the press to be legit like not being able to feel like its a sticker that will peel off...Can u please tell me what printer, vinyl cutter, heat press, and laptop I can use to start off on a budget please bro. Thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and wisdom. I really appreciate this video. You understand all the questions we may have when we are just starting! Thank you again!
You basically just explained my last 6 years with using equipment instead of outsourcing...I got burned out because of all the work and there was definitely no scaling because there is no way I could handle all of those custom orders. Great info!! I am stuck with finding the right systems for POD.
I get fulfillment knowing that someday I’ll see someone who took the time to support my brand and seeing something I drew in my room in someone’s closet because they liked it that much
Every question I have while starting up this business you have a video to answer it. Can I make an illustration using a program for my shirts instead of finding someone to draw what I’m envisioning? Your videos have made me confident that my business will be a success!
great video. I've been looking at heat pressing all 2020 lockdown here in the UK and I wanna do it but Its finding garments and what vinyl or to print from a sublimation printer to use etc. also what programmes I need to use for designs and if I need a pc or mac for this.
I'm in the UK too, and I've been thinking about all of this for ages. I don't want to waste my money on stuff and then to end up losing it if it goes tits up. There's a lot to think about.
@@Spugalugs yeah for sure. I watch many channel about it all. I wanna do heat press and screen printing eventually but I need to know what I need from gear to software and supplies before I do it. I’m in Manchester. I make TH-cam videos too.
@@Spugalugs I think it’s graphic design knowledge and what printer and vinyl paper I need to know. I want to know I’m buying the right stuff. Plus I’d want to make sure that my products are the best in the area but cheaper too.
Can someone please tell me what type of media print for users to print your image. Is it heat transfer vinyl, or is it direct to garment, sublimation, I don't understand. Are you limited to certain color combinations? Does the price increase per color added?
Whatever it is, in house or outsource it has to be screen printed. Customers know quality when they see it and if you want them to keep coming back you have to give them good shit.
