    I'm impressed by John Cusack. I didn't know he was a liberal and was so deep and had wisdom. He's a smart guy and he dropped knowledge on Cenk about the u.s. flag.

    it is rare these days to be able to listen to two speakers allow each other to expand, share and finish their thoughts before sharing their own. Its especially refreshing to watch them listen intently to each other as I do to them. Listening to adults partake in a meaningful and important dialogue that touches several important topics is never a waste of time.

    Great interview John, and I saw you sat back and thought the whole thing out very carefully, and that's exactly what was needed here.
    I can see that John realizes that it's forgone conclusion that, no matter what, who ever gets into the White House, it's going to be harsh, and the only people that can turn this around is us..Hit the streets and force their feet to the fire to make them change their attitudes.
    Would've loved to have been a fly on the wall during this conversation between these guys, and it's a testament to John's integrity that he brought such humanitarian based people together in one room...
    How can anyone on this thread even condemn Cusack for his beliefs, when they're so obviously based on moral, logical and humanitarian based values. It's a good thing to be against war, it's a great thing to stand against the machine that promotes war, even if it means we pay for our values with jail time.
    I feel for the American people, I truly do, that said, like those of us in other Western based countries, who're actually allied to the US government, we have to hold our own council, and if we find our governments wanting,we can't tolerate it in any way.
    As to Trump though, whilst i don't support him in any fashion for obvious reasons, Hillary Clinton to me is a walking nightmare, and just better at hiding her contempt for human life.
    Neither one of these candidates are fit for office, and sadly I don't know enough about US politics to to make any proper claims on what's the right, or wrong thing to do, but I do do wish someone like Jill Stein was a possibility. This woman is a true humanitarian, intelligent, kind, and wants what's best for the American people, and she's got the spine for it too, she's peaceful without being weak.
    Truthfully, I also miss Ron Paul as well, he is an amazing man, but he'd never have made presidency because he's too decent, so he's best served where he is now.
    I pray to Jesus daily that the US, UK, and ME find peace, but if that doesn't happen, I'm not afraid to use what is needed to get that peace, because the cameras will not be on any of us if we're fighting against our own corrupt system.

    I love John Cusack, I grew up on his movies such as Say Anything, Sure Thing and Better off Dead. I've discovered these gems bc I have a soft spot for 80s teen dramas. So it's great to know that he is also a humane American patriot who cares about the world not just the rich. God bless this man.

    at the least,
    consistent."

    That was delightful. You never see interviews where the host lets the guest elaborate their entire thought before they jump in and cut it short. Great observation by Cusack at about 40:00 and speaks to how they talked about values being turned upside down near the start. Too many people revere the flag instead of the ideals it's supposed to represent (same with religious dogma). I guess they need some sense of authority and/or security.

    The Berrigan brothers, Dorothy Day, Thomas Merton and Cesar Chavez represent Catholicism in it's most radical and social justice oriented form. Jeremy Scahill himself comes from a family background influenced by the Berrigan brothers. It's good Pope Francis is bringing things back to that radical social justice orientation of Catholic social teaching.

    Is the life of a human being of a different nationality less valuable than that of an American? --We always used to ask that, thank you Mr. Cusack for bringing that up.

    •  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was why they went for MLK not Malcolm X, civil rights vs Human rights.

    • @fuckthisbs
      @fuckthisbs 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They went after both. And of course a "foreign" life is not worth more nor less than an American life. I think if people, and really politicians, saw all the fucking death and men, women, and kids they're killing, if they saw all the dead bodies, and body parts, and destroyed bodies of all the people they call "collateral damage", then maybe they would think twice about executing strikes.

    • @handianus
      @handianus 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If a nation means anything, then in the eyes of the nation that will always be the case, foreigners especially those who hold different values and/or who do not contribute to the nation will be worth less. Just like how an individual values people, no one is equal.

    • @handianus
      @handianus 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No one values people equally. That concept if you actually applied it in practice would only mean insanity. E.g. if every child in the world is worth the same, then they would need to get money (from parents in America for example) so that they have the same as your kids and everyone else's kids in America. The more people someone squeeze out the more money that family would get ad infinitum.

    Cenk is someone I believe should be heard by all, but this interview helped hear Cenk at a much deeper level, and this is where I think he should resonate more often. Swear words are something that has been his go-to as of late, and I think if he wants to be taken seriously in the way that he should be, then shy away from the rants and cussing, and continue to speak intellectually about America and what it should, could, or used to (maybe in theory) stand for.

    This is an incredible interview and I don't feel pushed by a star with an agenda. I feel like I'm listening in to two people talking about something I need to know more about, and fact check for personal decisions. Just what I want in an interview. More than John's career, more than using fame for endorsement, just, "this is where we are, this is what needs to be, in my opinion."

  • @lamanchamama

    OK...just got my eyes opened wider than I expected to when I clicked on the this video. Found The Young Turks when looking for viewpoints on the current election. I honestly didn't know what John Cusack would have to say...now I want to know more, from him and The Young Turks and others who honestly think and see what's out there. Once upon a time, during the last election cycle with Barack Obama, who I voted for both times, I took time out to respond to something that asked if I was more "liberal" than Obama, just to satisfy my curiosity on this point: I actually found I was more liberal, answered the the thing twice giving measured thought to the areas where I might have slight variations and still came out more "liberal". I looked at the areas of difference and thought to myself, yeah, there's only so much a president can do realistically, given a Republican congress. But right now, I'm really not inclined to be so generous. But actually all that is now a moot point. What matters right now in the current election cycle, is to keep a truly dangerous person out of the White House---that would, of course, be Donald Trump. From Day One I've been like: this is a joke, right? And America, what are you thinking? I will not go into detail because there are just too many reasons why a Donald Trump presidency is just bloody well unthinkable. Bernie was not "electable", could not win and that left Hillary Clinton, who, while not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, is still the best alternative we have right now. This is truly a wake-up call to America; what kind of future do we want to have---"crash and burn" or keep trying and maybe get at least some of right somewhere down the road. Best call: elect Hillary Clinton and "keep her feet to the fire", hold her accountable for the future of our country, domestically and internationally.

    Maybe I'm extreme, but to me the problem with mistrusting the government is that people wait for something OUTRAGEOUS to come along before they do it, like a Patriot Act or a Watergate or a McCarthy. To me mistrusting the government is a full-time thing.

      It's all just an illusion anyways...money isn't even a real thing but just an invention we all have to fall for and participate in the illusion...Our Capitalistic system is just a game...we just need to have leaders that can keep it somewhat reasonable and within a certain region of workability...at their level they understand it is all fake, and their new job is just to keep the public within a level of being pleased and trust...it becomes the game of holding back the truth while having people put faith in something that doesn't matter...if people understood it really is about respect and love for one another they wouldn't care so much about feeding the political/capitalistic machine...keep the people divided and they will have a need for government to protect them from each other.

      with that said, every politician is crooked...then there is the problem of all the stupid people that do not know how to love and respect...with true freedom comes the responsibility to have freedom. So there are those of us that understand it and abide with the phony system. Stupid people can see something isn't right in the system, but not have the capacity to see the big picture. Best we can do is vote the lesser of the evils (as they are all going to be evil) and know we will never live in Utopia.

      “Identification with the rag called the national flag is an emotional and sentimental factor and for that factor you are willing to kill another - and that is called, the love of your country, love of the neighbor . . .? One can see that where sentiment and emotion come in, love is not.”

    Christian Fundamentalists turn the ethics & morality as preached by Christ on its head, by reversing where one reads about the importance of "feeding the poor, the widow and the dispossessed" and replacing the word "poor" with "rich. It's referred to as the "prosperity Bible". If one is rich, it is because God is pleased with what we do. If we are poor, then it must follow that the poor are looked upon with disfavour! I think Christ is & would be utterly appalled at how Christians, and wealthy Christians at that, pervert His message and use it to satisfy their needs, while ignoring the poor and enlarging their wealth.
    My country has an increasing disparity between the rich and the poor. We need to work hard to collectively reverse these un-Christian messages to be used as an excuse to keep more and give even less.
    I hope & pray that the "Developed" world still has time to reverse course; because time is definitely NOT on "our" side. Rather, we will be eclipsed by countries who use a far more socialized model of governance and because of that, will come out ahead in the coming decade(s) - no more than 20, are those countries that understood, looking forward, that recognize the signifigance of a "knowledge-based economy and supported and educated their citizens to be equipped to build a future for themselves, their fellow citizens, young and old, and take CARE OF EACH OTHER. That can NEVER come to pass in a selfish society where the individual model triumphs over the social model of any country, especially ones who espouse to be Christian, without reading the Sermon on the Mount.
