The passion path exists for almost a century, paving and lighting would improve the safety of the route around Boulevard Lake, at this specific location between Evergreen Park parking lot and the start of the paved recreation trail.
The existing method is to have pedestrians walk on the paved shoulder and trust automobiles to adhere to the 30km/hr speed limit not to veer across the painted line separating people from vehicles for over one thousand metres between Arundel street and where the paved rec trail begins.
Vehicle owners do NOT adhere to this limit for this 1km section. Choosing the forest trail is obviously the safer choice. Not paving the trail or lighting it is often a topic of conversation.
