This is a nice cover. Trisha sang it beautifully, although It doesn’t pack the same emotional punch that Madonna’s gorgeous vocals that make Take A Bow so heartbreaking. People have always written Madonna off as a vocalist and lyricist, but if you go back and listen to many of her ballads, particularly through the 90’s she was quite often brilliant. She may be a bit wacky and out of touch these days, but she has an impressive back catalogue filled with many hidden gems as well as the monster hits the GP are most familiar with. When she is gone there will be a reassessment of her work and she will finally be given credit for her brilliant artistry.

I'm glad Babyface still occasionally holds concerts, and he's held quite a few concert dates in Las Vegas for more than a decade. The next one is expected to be in on 8-9th November 2024 at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas.
I am almost obsessed with Trisha Yearwood (I have every one of her original CDs and quite a few of the compilation CDs), and I think she has one of the best voices of all time. I also love Babyface (I have most of his original CDs and I still believe "Whip Appeal" is one of the best songs ever written/sung period). I like Madonna. But honestly, as good as this performance was, it makes me appreciate Madonna's version more. She's not got nearly the vocal talent Trisha has, but her original recording nailed it. Trisha is all warmth and amazing depth; Madonna is colder, more emotionally controlled, and yet her version is better; Trisha sounds heartbroken, but Madonna sounds angry/sad/resigned/nostalgic, all wrapped up in a very controlled vocal that highlights why she is Madonna and no one else is or ever will be. It's always struck me as ironic that Madonna isn't a great actress in movies but when it comes to vocals, she blows everyone else away. I love Trisha. But I'd rather hear Madonna's version every single time.

But at the end, everybody has their own favorite singer or rendition. 😄
