SHOCKED by Scotland (it's beautiful!) | Best things to do in Lewis and Harris Island

  • In this vlog we tour Scotland with Rabbies to the isle of Lewis and Harris, a beautiful island, and find the best things to do ⬇ More Below
We're spending the next few days exploring Scotlands largest island and trying to find the best things to do in Lewis and Harris. We took a tour in England with Rabbies last year also and loved it. So we're back to check out a new country all together. Watch last years series here - bit.ly/2JBL2Nx
Safe to say that Scotland has completely blown us away - the Isle of Lewis and Harris is stunning! It's a shame more people don't get out to Lewis and Harris when they travel to Scotland though and focus on Isle of Skye instead.
This is our first time in Scotland so all we had to go by was the experience of friends, we'd been told it was going to shock us in the best way possible. They were right. The beaches in Lewis and Harris would probably be considered the best thing to do in our book, not only are they covered in white sand, long and beautiful but they remind us a lot of New Zealand.
Hope this helps if you're planning a trip to Scotland or wanted to specifically know what some of the best things to do in Lewis and Harris.
This is the tour around Lewis and Harris we took, there's plenty of other Rabies Tours also - geni.us/MqcQtT

Daneger and Stacey without tourism almost every 'civilised' country would suffer economically..even yours..😀
but if your video from there brings in x amout of tourists, how does the islands infrastructure cope ?, these islands cannot cope with mass tourism, medical facilities..roads..
these islands will end up the same as skye and fort william..over run and under funded by government.😦,
just think in the wider context about your videos..

Hey I just KNEW you guys would be blown away by the Hebrides! All of the far north of the Scottish highlands and islands has an aura of magic and mystery about it. Glad you encountered peat - I stayed in a cottage in the west of Ireland and we burned peat (or sods as they call them) fires while we were there. Peat has another ace up its sleeve - the impact it has on the taste of whisky. Scottish Island whiskies have a fabulous smoky flavour because of the source water filtering through the peat. Next level!!

Harris has got to be one of the nicest places in the World! Lewis isn't really one of the wettest places in the UK however, with about 1200mm of rain annually. Places like Dartmoor and the Lake district have over 2000mm annually, and even Oban on the West coast of Scotland has in excess of 1600mm. Also, Lewis isn't quite the windiest place in the UK, being surpassed by Orkney and Shetland! Lovely video!

This vlog got better and better as you ventured on. You absolutely captured it! I have been to Scotland at least eight times but never this far north. Where you were was much like the other areas I have been but uniquely different. I have primarily visited the areas south and west of Glasgow with a little time just north and west of Edinburgh. Much like what you showed us but had never experienced the beautiful beaches. What I love about Scotland is the rustic lay of the land with its magnificent hills, valleys and gentle rolling terrain. What a great place to truly enjoy the outdoors and you presented a beautiful view of it. Well done and look forward to experiencing the rest of your trip.

I`ve flown from Glasgow Airport up to Stornoway a couple of times, taken a taxi into the bus station and got on a local coach journey down to Tarbet on the Isle of Harris. If, you`ve not smelt the smoke from a peat fire, you`re missing out.
I have a friend who used to live in the village of Northton, not too far from Leverburgh, Harris in a cottage who was given the option of upgrading to all electric or, having a peat fire installed, he took the latter. He used to cut and dry his own fuel and this lasted him a whole year.
I`ve not been up there in nearly 20 years so, i`ll need to make an effort to go back again. One of my friends likes to holiday on the Isle of Skye when he can.
The beaches up there are crystal clear with Dolphins swimming just off the shoreline.

Many thanks for the blog you showed of Harris and Lewis, it took me back to the time we hired a cottage for a week in Harris way back in the early 90s, when the locals would walk miles to their local church, which was miles away for some! As a proud Scotsman I have travelled all over Scotland! I live on the main land, but still keep having a holiday up north or on the islands! You would be amazed how many Scots that live on the main land who have not set foot up north, let alone the islands! My wife and kids did the 500 way back in the 80s before it became famous! It is only now after the world population have been watching the press and all those harry potter films etc! My worry now is - with the climate becoming warmer, more will flock to our shores and ruin it's character! I am now a pensioner, but I have a place up north I go to 2/3 times a year, just to be alone in the hills and glens! Scotland has so much history in which other countries can't match! So respect should be given at all times! You should visit Skye - So much to see there -Check it out first before setting off as you don't want to miss a thing! Scotland has the best Whisky/Gin in the world - As we have the best water! Haste ye back!

Hi guys! Late to the party but this just popped up in my recommendations. 7m30s if you look at the map you'll see Balallan right in the centre. I was brought up in London but that's where my Dad is from and every May he'd drive all the family up there from London for 6 weeks and we'd stay with our Granny in the childhood home. The cutting of peat is still done to this day and I can still see him in my mind's eye in the peat bogs, cutting the turf and stacking it to dry. It's a remote yet beautiful and magical place but as you can imagine a harsh place in the winter. Thanks for the vlog- it brought back many happy memories :-)

No offence but Glasgow and it's surrounding area is the worst part of Scotland and is actually a shame on Scotland. What would you show them? The dirty streets full of tramps? The hospitals full of stab victims? Or maybe the many pubs seething with religious hatred and sectarianism? Or you could show them the area that has to have blue traffic lights instead of green because the green ones kept getting smashed, that'd be interesting for them eh?

@@grantmclean4744 What a sad reflection of someone with no concept of the true Glasgow. Glasgow has a lot to offer. Fantastic world class museums, brilliant food, amazing parks, close proximity to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, great shopping, beautiful architecture and fascinating history. Your comments are crass and outdated. Glasgow has moved on leaps and bounds over the last 50 years and is now as interesting a place as any in Scotland to visit. I'd happily show you some of these things if you ever care to actually visit.

    • @grantmclean4744

@@scottmcmurray3233 I have visited Glasgow loads of times. You are saying Glasgow has a museum? That is all you have? A museum and some nice buildings? I have to disagree with you there as it may have one or two nice buildings but the overall feel of Glasgow is not a city of great architecture like say Vienna or Rome but more like what it is, a scummy city where people will slash you for wearing the wrong football top. Don't try and claim loch lomond, an undeniably beautiful place but it as absolutely nothing to do with Glasgow apart from being unfortunate enough to be in close proximity to it. The well known worst thing about Loch lomond is actually all the weegie neds visiting there, leaving a mess and causing a disturbance and generally being as big an embarrassment to Glasgow as Glasgow is to Scotland. You are most likely the same as most other weegies and have never actually visited the rest of Scotland so actually have not much of a clue how shit your little corner of the country is in comparison to the rest of it.

    • @scottmcmurray3233

@@grantmclean4744 Never heard such nonsense. Glasgow has one of the highest number of Victorian buildings of any city in the UK. The city centre and West End are vibrant. The city is safe and there is plenty to see. Seems that you managed to visit without being slashed as you claim. Your idea of Glasgow is seriously outdated. Yes Glasgow is different from the rest of Scotland but that's like that Manchester or Bristol or London are similar to the countryside in England. There is a reason that Lonely Planet and many others rate Glasgow as one of the top places to visit in Europe. Time Out in 2019 rated it as the 8th best city to visit in the world.
