The accent called "General American English" is what people are taught in speech therapy, what kindergarteners are taught in phonics, and what newscasters are taught in broadcasting
It is found natively in **drum roll** parts of Ohio and Indiana. Which makes Tim's East Coast theory really funny to me 😂

Nick, everytime I hear a Californian accent it is a momentary pause and reset. NY is *such* a melting pot that we are running into different accents multiple times daily. Also, ask Roger to say "Water" if you want that NY to come out 😆

Funny story about euthanasia...in 9th grade, our English teacher randomly opened up an encyclopedia and picked a topic for us to do a research paper on. I got euthanasia, but I took it as "youth in asia" because I didn't know about euthanasia so I did a whole paper on children in Asia and he gave me a C for doing the wrong topic hahaha

Listen to how Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Vince Staples or Tiffany Haddish speaks. That accent is specific to black Californians

I’m not sure there’s really a difference between the Midwest accent and the western accent. But Nick trying to cop the Midwest accent (the accent most commonly on News and TV) as a California/main US accent is crazy haha.

I’m from the Bay Area - grew up in Northern California until I was 22. I moved to New York City at 23 and everyone in NYC could instantly tell I was from Cali. Literally, I would only have to say like 2 sentences maximum and they’d know right away. We def have an accent and more over a vocabulary. Also I do a podcast with OMGzus, he’s from Vegas and even he makes fun of me for my Cali accent.

Hearing them refer to Valley girl as an accent when it’s more of an affectation is driving me crazy, lol. And the reason that the West Coast has less “accents“ is because the way that we speak, minus any affectations like Valley girl, is closer to how the dictionary says words should be pronounce than most other places, including England. I hate to take Nick/Andy side on this, but they’re right.

Midwest is considered the neutral American accent. It does get a little German/Canadian if you go up into Minnesota and northern Wisconsin, but we make fun of that in southern Wisconsin too in the Madison-Milwaukwee-Chicago area. We do have a little of that Wisconsin-Minnesota accent slip out in Madison/Milwaukee though too and Chicago has a bit of one sometimes too.

Andy is so wrong here. Bay Area, SF, LA all sound completely different. Seattle has its own accent, Oregon has its own, just TH-cam it and it’s obvious. It just seems like we have no accent because of Hollywood. It’s the language we export

Dude, as someone who lived around a lot of accents (mostly rural Appalachian) it always sounds cringe when people without an accent say y'all. It's like, you can hear them smiling to themselves for how charming they think they're being. Then again, it's gets annoying when I hear southern folk saying it a lot too. Maybe I just hate words.
