- A full tour of my 14 fish tanks featuring a mix of aquascapes and breeding tanks, utilising live aquarium plants and botanicals throughout.
I tried to keep this video to a respectable length so I may have missed some bits of information. Please ask any questions that I do not answer in this and I will pick them up in an upcoming video where I ‘answer your questions’.
I’ll hopefully finalise planting plans for the new scape, when I do I’ll post a full build video, your suggestions are welcome!
The South American tetra scape was inspired by and featured plants from, @biotopia5319 check his channel for inspirational scapes and wild habitat footage.
My tanks are maintained using @NTLabsOfficialSite pro care range and many of the botanical featured in my scapes are from Live Aquatic Food Online and BlackwaterUK.

Hi, Alex; I liked this video a lot! You have the sort of vibe of a kid enthusiastically talking about his treasure collection, which makes your narrative very engaging and happy.
On a more 'professional' note, I particularly appreciate your skills for selecting and placing hardscape elements: your tanks are always very natural-looking and I like them very much.
Keep on with the great work!
Amazing!
For Imbellis dark color will come out when they are flared. Usually, we keep two of them next to each other in a separate tank with a separator in the middle so they dont flare to each other. With the separator u can open and close it at any moment so u can get them to flare with each.
Another option is to use mirror.
Your Imbellis is lone for too long, it might take sometime for it to flare up.
Anyway, Awesome fish room tour!
@FromCambodia
Thanks for the response, yes he does colour up a lot more when flaring. My aquarium was set up to be an attractive natural aquarium, so adding some sort of divider would not be feasible.
If circumstances changes and I had a second tank spare I would consider getting a second, female, to occasionally bring them together to spawn but for me, the light colours are still beautiful and I love this fish as he is.
Loved watching your tanks and you talking about them. Love the company you keep lol (Other aquarium people you mentioned and your Fish). I've subscribed and will definitely check out your other videos. Thank you!
Thanks for watching and subbing, really appreciate it.
I am certainly very lucky to know and get to bounce ideas off of some great people in the hobby. Still not sure how I got in this position!
I'm following you in insta for long.. finally your channelis growing, love to swe that!🎉
Thank you so much, yes it’s growing quite well. Very pleased and thanks for the support!
Amazing aquariums!
Thank you! There’s still room for improvement (and a few more tanks) but I’m really loving how it’s all looking at the moment
Amazing
Glad you enjoyed seeing my fish room 😊
An excellent tour of your fishroom! You have a beautiful diversity of fish and some wonderful tanks!
That’s so kind of you, it’s easy to get fixated on a small group of fish… but I like to branch out and try something new once in a while which has certainly led to a bit of a mixed bunch of species in my fish room.
So glad you enjoyed seeing my fish room ☺️
Hello from my fish room in Chicago! Appreciate the tour, mate! and i really love the vibe of that hardscape tank. Can't wait to see it flooded!
Thank you, I wasn’t sure how the layout was going to come together (I kind of just grabbed some interesting pieces without a picture in my mind).
What would you plant it with if it were your tank?
@@alexb_aquatics Well, I really like the look of your planted tank with the red crypt balansae so I might borrow some inspiration from that. Since you never use aquasoil I'd stay away from stems. Maybe try a mix of large and small anubias different species. Maybe use a lsection with soil and one great Dwarf tiger lotus red?
Ooo that’s awesome that one of my layouts has given you some inspiration! Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Nice suggestions, I definitely need to do more with Anubias
Excellent video mate, I didnt know you were on TH-cam, glad I found you. I'm the guy who was asking about the camera/lens you use on Instagram last week, any chance of a video over how you go about your fish photograph? Your photographs are beautiful.
Ahh glad you found my TH-cam too, there is a video about photography I posted a little while ago but it wasn’t overly detailed. Might be worth giving it a watch, but I’ll definitely add a more detailed photography video to my to do list!
All looks amazing Alex! 👏🤩
Thanks buddy, really kind of you. Not to the high standard of your fish room, but balancing attempting to breed and attractive aquascapes is difficult 😅
Great room tour! Love the betta cube😍I think your imbellis is gorgeous 🤩 I finally got a pot to boil my botanicals. It's non stick though. Didn't see anything online against using non stick but wondering if you have?
Thank you, so much!! Yes I am very taken by the betta cube too, my original plan was to have far less plants but I got carried away and I am so glad I did as it really pops in the fish room now.
The pot I use is also non stick and I’ve never had an issue, to be honest it didn’t even cross my mind when I purchased it
I enjoyed your visuals of tanks😊
Thank you!! Glad you did 🙌🏼
Love the betta tank! Great video
I think that tank is going to be many people’s favourite! I’m so pleased with it! Thank you 🥰
I love Pleco my favorites😊
They are great when you see them! 🤣
A really good job 👏
Thanks for all the support!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
@@alexb_aquatics😉
Hello came from another channel look forward to seeing what you are up to😊
Thanks for popping over to see my aquariums, I hope you enjoy your visit to the tinted world 😂☺️
I did self feeding for paro. bintan in a 75 gal shallow paludarium. Worked great, they are the perfect fish for it and it was super sustainable, always had food in the tank and had full bellies.
That’s awesome, I definitely want to try it again but pre stock the tank with a more diverse ecosystem… I think some sort of shrimp would help supply shrimplets as food which will be slightly larger than what I was using in this tank.
What did you use?
@alexb_aquatics Well it's a funny story, I didn't actually do it on purpose, as I was building my botanical layers and cycling the tank I noticed more and more microfauna. I had detritus worms in the substrate, copeapods everywhere, and a small species of grass shrimp
I think that’s one of the best things about botanical aquariums, you don’t always plan to have all these little microorganisms in there but they find a way in and thrive!
Bravo from Romania Dracula land ❤🎉
Thank you 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Hi. new subscriber here, just found your channel through the algorithm. Great fish room. Can I ask where you found the racking for your nano rack? I’m trying to find something suitable for myself but uncertain on the strength of them. Many thanks
Thanks for subscribing, appreciate it!
I’m fairly sure this rack was www.wickes.co.uk/Buffalo-4-Tier-MDF-Storage-Shelf--1220mm/p/239405?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw26KxBhBDEiwAu6KXt7Kv-4Xk1sFQf3Z1JxTCii1tiKcOEgJ-8BoOOMqwyxRyOv0FhGAJzRoCHjgQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds . I swapped the MDF shelves out for a 12mm plywood board sealed with PVA (you could just get marine ply). The only issue I had was the boards that come with the rack were to flexible, and would probably have broken. Total cost would still have been below £100.
Are these species of knife fish a lot less aggressive?
I used to keep a black ghost knife and had to keep it solo.
He got massive over the 7 years I had him before he went to a new home and a mega tank.
Yes they are certainly more tolerant of each other than some of the other species. They size each other up occasionally, swimming forward and backwards along each others flanks, but never cause each other damage.
Those metal racks look pretty strong, do you have a link for them,i could do with one in my fish room
The larger rack I picked up second hand I’m not sure where it would be sold, it could be a custom build to be honest.
The nano rack is www.wickes.co.uk/Buffalo-4-Tier-MDF-Storage-Shelf--1220mm/p/239405?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw57exBhAsEiwAaIxaZitlq1B8TqnqlqLwV4HP1XIyjRldCQvaSGFJmm1nCkbb24n1ZS8Y_xoCMiMQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds but I replaced the shelves with 12mm ply to be stronger
