There are companies (Alien Ears) that will take custom IEMs and remold them to your ears. They just take the guts out of the old ones and put them in your new ones.
My buddies band used these professionally and they loved them. They got them mainly for noise isolation and to increase focus. The drummer would play his custom tracks through an ipod and wouldn't even hear the band but be dead on with the tracks. Its a very great way to be precise without having to break concentration cause your battling mic feedback in some junk monitor in a hole in the wall venue... Ultimate ears insure quality regardless of venue set ups... Plus you increase stage presence. Some good stuff! Great review... I don't even own a pair myself.. I was just a merch guy / tech support.
It must be some experience. I'd pay it if I had it to spare. They'd be well worth it. People just don't get it when you say "the sound is delivered right to your ear" and "sound isolation". That's a big deal pulling that off.
Trevor Lowe Geez, I have to agree with SPL. These In-Ears are only used on stage or by the musician in the studio listening to what he is playing. Mixing down audio with any kind of headphones as a reference is a complete nono. Heck even when you're listening to music on your portable MP3/FLAC Player these don't sound natural because every frequency in the audible spectrum is as loud as the others. But with a little bit of EQing you will get an eargasm. With that in mind my toenails rolled up while Logans Fruity Loops session, hehe ;-)
It's not really a sound reproduction or a frequency response issue, the problem is with the stereo imaging. It's extremely hard if not close to impossible to get an accurate picture of the sound stage with headphones since each ear only hears one channel as opposed to near field monitors where each ear picks up both the left and right channels. There are some plugins that are supposed to fix this, but the technology is simply not there yet!
I'm a musician and I switched to in ears 10 yrs ago, I'll never go back. Live, I can have a custom mix in my ears. I don't need a lot of bass, and I just like snare, kick & hats from the drums and vocals. They will save your hearing from outrageous stage volumes. But I use mine for use with my iPOD as well. $1k is not too high a price for custom in ears.
I have a more basic version, the 6 series, I already think they are perfect sounding, can´t imagine what the capitol version sounds like... I don´t know if this is a negative point but more of a warning when getting the ear impressions made. I got them made directly at UE at a stand in SXSW and they were taking the impressions for free. Something they did ask me that you local audiologist may not ask you is if you sing. It is very important to notice this because as the foam hardens, you need to move your mouth up and down. When you sing, your canal opens up more and in a different direction, so it is important to note this if you plan to sing as well, as the mold will be slightly different this way.
Just ordered myself my first pair of custom iems. Going to attempt to get ear molds next week as my audiologists hours are the exact same as mine pretty much. I cant wait to get them!
I wouldn't exactly be critical of these at all, they are pricey for sure, but I love the idea of them. You DON'T need to turn up the volume super high to get the impact of the music or media. That's the whole thing about these types of products, they're specialized to give you the listener the whole audio spectrum of sound. It's NOT about volume on these. By the way, I spent over $12,000 on separate components in 1980 on the Pioneer SPEC 1 and SPEC 4 analog amp and pre-amp among other add ons. I still have all of them.
When you compare them to the price of the amplifiers and the wedges the ears are definitely a better deal even if you are running a pretty pricey wireless setup.
I see a lot of complaints about how expensive these monitors are and I personally believe that they are an amazing investment. I see many videos and pictures of high end pc gaming setups with precision mice, keyboards, custom liquid cooling and 4k monitors and it makes me cringe when they use a pair of logitech gaming headsets or shitty proprietary speakers. Spending large amounts of money on high performance products (clothing, appliances, electronics) should not exclude audio. People listen to music a lot and investing in high end audio will greatly pay off in the long run, whether or not you use them for professionally or casually.
***** like Gabriel said, they aren't for the average person. If $200 headphones will work for the average person with their lossy mp3 files, then great. But audiophiles, producers, musicians, and artists actually have a purpose in these. $1000 is not overkill and actually pretty cheap for a high end custom, especially from the likes of ultimate ears who charge more for their higher end customs. There are some other great alternatives such as the noble k10, JH Roxanne, JH 13 pro, westones etc. But for those who don't need/want customs in ears, the $300 etymotic er4pt/r is perfect. Some of the worlds most accurate iems, very flat, transparent and isolating
Wawaweewa Rice You right. We can spend all our money on our gear just to find the perfect sound. So why the hell we will have an "OK" pair of can for working with all these hours, gear and money we have invested?
MobiusSeckOne i'd argue 1000 headphones aren't even used by most professionals. Plenty of great music has been made using studio and lesser grade equipment. These will not make you a better musician.
If you can't afford to spend this much on a pair of iems, but still want to "re-experience" your music then the Fiio EX1 is a great entry/mid-range iem for around $70 that is hands down the highest rated and praised iem for $100 and under. They lack a little bit of noise isolation, but the ROI is the insanely good soundstage that competes easily with iems in the $400+ range. Believe me! They're relatively balanced, extremely clear and bass is clean and tight (not boomy or bloomy). You will not be disappointed!
I have a pair of Shure SE535's with Sensaphonic ear molds. Shure's don't come with custom molds, but they recommend Sensaphonic who do the same process you've shown. The SE535's are $500, the molds are an extra $150. But the investment is absolutely worth it, Shure's are great out of the box, but with the ear molds, all you hear is the music. If you have a good DAC and a nice amp, listen to well mastered music and it's like hearing it all over again. Also, amazing for gaming. Downside, if something suddenly plays much louder on your pc, like a system notification sound, you can't simply yank these out, so it can really hurt your eardrums.
These would be perfect for game that require heavy concentration like CS:GO and other competitive games. They would allow you to hear footsteps, reload sounds, little scuffles, and way more. Certainly looking in for a pair.
i'd give these 3 weeks before i'd break them lol, and the fact that i can see the tiny wires inside makes me shiver at how delicate they would be, and for that amount of money, i'd expect kevlar reinforced wires inside and out tbh
I enjoy my bass emphasised earbuds. I don't even always listen to electro or dubstep. I find that a lot of different genres (Scottish, pop, basically everything) has so much of a more filling sound when the bass is clear but emphasised.
I know so many people that have UE's but have never owned a pair myself, I guess that's what I get for being the lighting designer in live production and not audio engineer :P
if you can’t afford them, i hear etymotic makes the next best thing. the er phones (er2se, er3se, er4sr) are designed to be flat response at different price points and the xr variants add a touch of warmth or bass boost
+nagasako7 pretty much although they would standard ear impression for hearing aids so giving the manufacture "specs" is recommened. The difference I can see so far is that the IEM molds go further out the ear compared to hearing aid molds
I assume you already have regular monitors as apposed to in ears, cause you're probably better off spending $1000 on reference monitors and room treatment than in ear monitors. If you are performing live though, that a different story
Can you do an update on this product? Do you still use them? has the quality of the sound diminished? Are they still comfortable to wear? etc...... I am really looking into getting a pair of these done and would like to know how the quality maintains over a couple of years time. Thank you in advance!
+Cpt Swoopty (Captain Swoopty) Hey i'm monitor sound engineer in a band and my lead singer uses UIE so what can i say is im totaly pissed off how they bring high frequencies.I always got to cut off highs from 2k to make my guy happy. Also we get cable problems very often so we bought bunch of extra cables to change quickly. I would never get this ones for myself. I like shure 535 - cheaper and not personalized so before a show monitor guy always can check them in his years to be sure all the drivers are working.
CIEMs are cool and all but I'm always really skeptical about audio products without seeing any measurements. Do UE give you the frequency response graph or measurement sheets for these products? Measuring something that is custom made is tough but they must do it for at least the QC testing at the factory.
They look like the once I use at work, difference is: Mine are 1/3 - 1/4 the price. Has a filter for isolation that can be removed, and you can plug in your iem's of choice. Made of silicon, not plastic (if I understood this right about this one's) Forgot how the isolation is without the filters. One con that logan might not have encountered yet is, it can get sweaty after awhile.
I'm a drummer and i can say shure se535 is better choice and it only cost $499 not $1000 and the sound in shure se535 is amazing! on more thing when i use shure se535 and play drums i use low volume and i can't here my drums and it's so nice and do not damage my ears
Always wanted custom monitors. But if i decide to get them i will go for Ultimate Ears UE-4 pro or some even cheaper ones. (UE-4 Pros cost 473 euros which is expensive but more reasonable than 1000 dollars.)
I'm really new to you channel, but loving it a lot, but may I ask, what model is the BMW you're driving? I've never seen that steering wheel and door design.
That's why you download your music at as high bitrate (or lossless) format, 320Kb/s MP3 is quite common and is adequate, but WAV, or FLAC are a lot better.
He is producing music inside fl studio. Therefore he is hearing the actual sound before it has even been put inside an audio file. So he will be hearing the sound as accurately as is possible provided that his audio interface is just as good.
I know, IJS that if buy one of these to listen to music I would still not be able to hear the actual song because the MP3 compresses it, unfortunately.
iTunes? Seriously? Derivates from the A word shouldn't be allowed here too. And I know, I was just putting it out, Logan everything but didn't mention the music compression of these days lol
what about if you live in another country but still want to buy them? i mean how they can make your ear molds? you have to travel all across the world ? just interested not arguing or hating..
M70x is the best reference Monitor in my opinion. I have heard the demo of the UE RM it is quite fascinating how good a tiny iem can stand against top of the line Full-size reference.
as neutral as they might be, just for listening music (As my music production abilities don't go over "playing around") I like actually having studio monitors as in physical speaker. Idk the way sounds moves in a room and not having something on/in my ear just feels more natural to me.
Studio monitor speakers will have a bigger soundstage and it will react with the room making it seem more natural to you. Although they wont be as transparent.
ElitePotato8 not many producers or sound engineers I know of use IEM's, they use studio monitors in a well designed studio which won't give a false representation of any frequencies. IEM's are good, but well placed monitors even in an untreated room, in my opinion, are much better. (this is coming from a someone who has been learning how to produce, mix, master for the last couple of years and has experimented with many different sound options, including IEM's)
You know there could be another use for this. Imagine using this when your loosing a bit of your hearing and using them on you phone. there dang cheaper then hearing aids and don't require a battery. no they arn't a subsitute for them but I almost, if i had the money, would get these for my mom so she can actually use the phone instead of going. "What, What, What, What."
it is a hard material,I got a pair of 900 bucks iems and got back to ath m50x with my custom ER25 dampning earbuds for drumming because the hard material doesn't go good with my ears :/ never begin on this stuff
Any specific reason you went with the Ultimate Ears over something like JH Audio or Noble Audio? I'm just curious, because I'm looking into a pair of CIEMs myself.
For monitoring while recording or on stage, not for production or mixing. You really need to move air if you want to hear what the artist/producer/engineer intended. IEM's are typically not used to create the final master you will be listening to on these IEM's. So its not exactly how most artists intended. Maybe some hipster producing in a hotel room somewhere but even he would probably just have a good set of headphones. Unless he's stupid! Awesome IEM's though...
You will need an Headphone Amp with low Impendance out to drive those correctly. I got the UE900s which are amazing for the cost of 400 Bucks but someday I save up some money to get my first costum UE IEMs.
I'm watching this video with a pair of Ultimate Ears, namely the 600 vi. Switching to IEMs after using nothing but full-size headphones for years was a bit weird but I've gotten used to it. Also, not to sound disrespectful or anything, because I do like the style of music Logan makes and I've bought two of his albums, but I couldn't help but feel that there was a bit of a discord between the act of buying expensive professional equipment like this and then using it to make 8-bit-ish music. It just doesn't strike me as the style of music that's complex enough that you have to go to such lengths to reach a neutral "reference" soundscape. Then again, I don't know anything about music creation so I could be way off.
One obvious disadvantage: you can't sell it. that's all.
There are companies (Alien Ears) that will take custom IEMs and remold them to your ears. They just take the guts out of the old ones and put them in your new ones.
That mold creation was the coolest grossest thing I've ever seen
I'm going to be spending $1,200 dollars on 64 Audio's A6 model. I'm super excited to be getting those.
Mike Parzyck I had the U6. One of the best sound quality in the $1k price range.
Kammex what about the shure se 8.... they're like1000$
My buddies band used these professionally and they loved them. They got them mainly for noise isolation and to increase focus. Yay, a 4K video I can only watch in 1080p, lol. Awesome.
Give it a try now.
No Logan, no producer uses IEM to mix down music and you don't know crap about audio.
Still love you though!
go back to head-fi where you belong!
Tek Syndicate Wrong, I belong to gear-slutz. lol
Trevor Lowe He knows how to talk out of his ass.

UE6000 and UE.350VM is what I'm working with. Not there high end but man do I still love them. Sound to me is just spot on.
Ultimate Ears are just simply the best. They really do their job well.

wait a sec... are you the one whos made all the chiptune ? o.O
Indeed.
Tek Syndicate I bow down to thee my lord.
Tek Syndicate This is some "Luke I'm your father" shit. I thought that was just a friend of yours who wanted to get his name out there.
I got my UE's 2008. Still good. I think Ill get a new pair, just to up-grade. Thanks UE.
These would be perfect for game that require heavy concentration like CS:GO and other competitive games. They would allow you to hear footsteps, reload sounds, little scuffles, and way more. Certainly looking in for a pair.
man that first line lol! "my ear is damn good, but nit ultimate"
am i the only one that thinks these would be AWESOME for gaming.
I've got a pair coming in a week, I'll let you guys know how they are for PC
shooters.
I use Empire Ears Zues CIEMs to play.
yep. they lack soundstage by being in ears
i'd give these 3 weeks before i'd break them lol, and the fact that i can see the tiny wires inside makes me shiver at how delicate they would be, and for that amount of money, i'd expect kevlar reinforced wires inside and out tbh
They aren't hollow. Those wires are fixed in place. You would need to cut them in half to break them wires. Well that part isn't hollow.
kind of want some now, just ordered some $30 ones though lol. That's a bit further up than where I am now
Do they feel weird in the ear? Considering theres no foam tip on it, or is it completely isolated?
I enjoy my bass emphasised earbuds. I don't even always listen to electro or dubstep. I find that a lot of different genres (Scottish, pop, basically everything) has so much of a more filling sound when the bass is clear but emphasised.

Team Shure
Nice layers, sounds like a retro video game 🎮
if you can’t afford them, i hear etymotic makes the next best thing. the er phones (er2se, er3se, er4sr) are designed to be flat response at different price points and the xr variants add a touch of warmth or bass boost
Ah man, that Fl Studio in the background at 2:05
How much did it cost to get the molds done?
$25.
Tek Syndicate You give an ear doctor their instructions and the ear doctor 'goes from there'?
nagasako7 Yes, I assume most of them do this all the time.
+nagasako7 pretty much although they would standard ear impression for hearing aids so giving the manufacture "specs" is recommened. The difference I can see so far is that the IEM molds go further out the ear compared to hearing aid molds
Form fitting, sounds great
I assume you already have regular monitors as apposed to in ears, cause you're probably better off spending $1000 on reference monitors and room treatment than in ear monitors. If you are performing live though, that a different story
Why arent there more views. These vids rock!
I'm getting a ad next to this video and it says "AAW Custom In-Ear Monitor. Audiophile Custom under US$200 Next Gen Hybrid Driver Technology" LOL
How do these compare to the Shure SE846? Same price at $1000 (excluding the massdrop option)
Can you do an update on this product? Do you still use them? has the quality of the sound diminished? Are they still comfortable to wear? etc......
I am really looking into getting a pair of these done and would like to know how the quality maintains over a couple of years time. Thank you in advance!

+Alex Ragby you could get some custom sleeves for the shures. Just slip the sleeves off when they are needed to be tested
Logan has legs.. logan has LEGS?!
Drives a BMW. GAVE AWAY his old BMW. Owns the most expensive computers, gadgets and now in-ear monitors.
Wears a faded denim jacket. All the time.
Great vid Logan, i have heard about these.
One can also get earplugs to block sound working quite similar to these.
They been doing this for years :o been on my wish list for a while :pp
Would prolonged use, hurt your ear?
great idea, but what about the wax which is pushed down in toward the ear drum?
CIEMs are cool and all but I'm always really skeptical about audio products without seeing any measurements. Do UE give you the frequency response graph or measurement sheets for these products? Measuring something that is custom made is tough but they must do it for at least the QC testing at the factory.
**Buys individually callibrated studio reference in-ear monitors for mastering 8-bit music.*
Martín Varela you heard the album? It's chiptunes mixed with all kinds of stuff.
+Tek Syndicate
It's ok, just comedic exaggeration. Thanks for the response nonetheless. I need to work on my hints.
That's great. I'm sure Young Thug really cares about what his music sounds like when the record's being cut!
So, basically, if you go on a video and the music is too loud, you are deaf.
They look like the once I use at work, difference is:
Mine are 1/3 - 1/4 the price.
Has a filter for isolation that can be removed, and you can plug in your iem's of choice.
Made of silicon, not plastic (if I understood this right about this one's)
Forgot how the isolation is without the filters.
Awesome vid. Thanks. Love the 4k quality :-)
I'm moving from UE 10 Pros to 18 Pros and eagerly await shipment (audiophile, no music creation).
TY Logan
Just got my molds done too!
Can you use them as regular earphones for the gym
Always wanted custom monitors. But if i decide to get them i will go for Ultimate Ears UE-4 pro or some even cheaper ones. (UE-4 Pros cost 473 euros which is expensive but more reasonable than 1000 dollars.)
Shure 846 costs 1000 dollars. so which one is better?
Should I buy the "cheap" 399$ IEMs, I listen to music very much, mix my own music..
your music sounds like a mashup of mega man and the 56k modem log on sound.
I'm really new to you channel, but loving it a lot, but may I ask, what model is the BMW you're driving? I've never seen that steering wheel and door design.

And I know, I was just putting it out, Logan everything but didn't mention the music compression of these days lol
I considered custom IEMs but most places (clubs, bars, really small festivals) still use monitor boxes.
so you mean if the in eaar monito are transparent it would produce a better sound than the ones that are opaque?
what about if you live in another country but still want to buy them? i mean how they can make your ear molds? you have to travel all across the world ? just interested not arguing or hating..
Sammy G you get your ear molds at a nearby audiologist and send your ear impressions to them by postsge they dont go to you
M70x is the best reference Monitor in my opinion. I have heard the demo of the UE RM it is quite fascinating how good a tiny iem can stand against top of the line Full-size reference.
I use some $300 dual-driver custom molded IEMs for playing on stage. I seriously doubt these will sound 3x better than mine.
WOW! What a Box !!!
Got my Shure se535 remolded. I will never go back to generic headphones, enough said.
So how do these compare to equally priced over ear headphones or monitors?
Wow man you got some FL Studio skillz too, nice job!

What about the shure SE846's? A comparison maybe? They both cost about 1000$
How do you rate this compare to a Shure SE846?
will these cut down on the hearing loss commonly suffered by those in the radio industry?
my eyes started acting funny when I clicked that 2160k for my first time.
Do these give you a sense of directional audio so you could use it for games?
You know there could be another use for this. Imagine using this when your loosing a bit of your hearing and using them on you phone. there dang cheaper then hearing aids and don't require a battery. no they arn't a subsitute for them but I almost, if i had the money, would get these for my mom so she can actually use the phone instead of going. "What, What, What, What."
You get get some Sennheiser HD800's on sale once in a while...
The speaker monitors are still there on the very stage nowadays.
But will it blend?
How can I get started with this product?
are these made of plastic or a flexible rubberized plastic
it is a hard material,I got a pair of 900 bucks iems and got back to ath m50x with my custom ER25 dampning earbuds for drumming because the hard material doesn't go good with my ears :/ never begin on this stuff
All great but are the cables replaceable?
Yes they r !
Any specific reason you went with the Ultimate Ears over something like JH Audio or Noble Audio? I'm just curious, because I'm looking into a pair of CIEMs myself.
And I thought I was getting fancy with my m6 pros......
Joshplaysguitar feel the same way bro..
Haha, I just ordered some M6 Pros... they should arrive today actually. How do you like them?
Fucking audiophiles driving me up the wall with their 1000$ earphones...
When you hear the sound you say I wouldve spent even more!!!
I'd prefer a balanced armature /dynamic driver hybrid. The bass is more slamming and realistic when using dynamic drivers.
Check out a company called advance acoustic werkers they got hybrid custom monitors for about 230 usd not too bad
could probably say it is a sound investment
How long do they last?
For gaming?
Does anyone know if these are damaging to your ears?? Is it bad that they go so deep in your ears or are almost touching your eardrums?
no so long as you get the volume right
as long as you keep your volume reasonable, its the safest way of having monitors for your ears
Although iems tend to not be for 10 hour long sessions as they are fatiguing over time
Josephshanks7 64 Audio has a module in their IEMS that blocks the pneumatic pressure from the speakers from damaging your ear drums.
These look nice.
How's the bass
What about the ear wax issues?
Does ciem doesn't require ear tips??
You will need an Headphone Amp with low Impendance out to drive those correctly. I got the UE900s which are amazing for the cost of 400 Bucks but someday I save up some money to get my first costum UE IEMs.
knowing me, these would end up in the washing machine hehe.
