  • On this Aotearoa New Zealand history tour we are exploring Te Teoteo's Pā. Te Teoteo’s Pā is located on a hill overlooking an important catchment area. It is an old Pā located in an abundant area, once home to various Maori. It connects the Waikato, Maramarua and Whangamarino Rivers, various streams, as well as Lake Waikare and Lake Karaka (Kopuera). It is also the second largest swamp area in the North Island.
As a result it was a critically important Maori settlement - as its ecosystem was home to various fish and birdlife.
The site was important to oversee this critical area, and was also desired by the British as maintaining control of this area was crucial to both Maori and British supply chains. It can be accessed today via the Whangamarino Track.
🔴 In this video series looking at the New Zealand Land Wars, we aim to present the places as they are . We understand that it is not possible to tell the many complex stories of a location with one video, rather we want to make these places available to be visited virtually.
🔴 This is one of the sites of the New Zealand Land Wars Waikato driving tour. For more information about this site, we have collected some resources which can be used to understand more context -
