  • Ladies, gents and teddy bears, this is our annual visit to RAF Valley, on Anglesey, Wales, and it is home to No 4 Flying Training School, who are responsible for training the UK's next generation of world-class fighter pilots.
Aircrew are also trained at RAF Valley for mountain and maritime operations throughout the world.
RAF Valley is also home to the Mountain Rescue Service, the military's only high readiness, all weather search and rescue, aircraft post-crash management asset.
The base opened in 1941 and during WW II the Station was a fighter station to defend Merseyside and the Irish Sea from enemy air and maritime activity. From 1943, it became a major staging post for USAAF aircraft arriving from the U.S to help the war effort.
Post-war, the Station became a flying training station for the RAF and Royal Navy. Today, it is the home of No 4 Flying Training School, operating the BAE Hawk TMk2. This advanced jet trainer, with its modern cockpit design and avionics, provides the ideal lead-in trainer for pilots graduating on to front line aircraft such as the Typhoon and F-35.
From late 2019, RAF Valley will be the home of Basic Flying Training; the second phase of Fast Jet training for the RAF and Royal Navy. Following on from Elementary Flying Training, Basic Flying Training using the Texan T1 advanced turbo-prop trainer will prepare students for Advanced Flying Training on the Hawk T2 jet trainer.
Since the Station was opened in February 1941 it has been the home of many different aircraft in a variety of roles. Initially, RAF Valley was part of 9 Group, Fighter Command, and was known as RAF Rhosneigr. After two months, it was re-named RAF Valley.

Great video Ted. Good to see RAF Valley, Mach Loop & "trainer Hawks squadron" in action. Our fighter pilots today, may have fond memories of this? Respect too, to BAE Systems for the super Hawk aircraft. Thank you ❤

Our beloved Hawks draped in black from 25sqn are lovely looking. Then later going through Mach Loop. I suspect those pilots had a whale of a time flying low. The 2 ship take off are no less impressive for our trainees. 3 ships, its all here. Whilst those Texans are well suited to hossing through the low level Mach Loop. Sound even better too. 5:30 2 x Hawks take off just wonderful, glorious sights. Do you think pilots enjoy being at RAF Valley? They all pass through on the road to front line duty.
RAF gives the best training possible to bring up TURBO, Sainty, Paddy and Brighty. Who next??
    No:- 950 / 1049

Oooohhhh yeah thanks Dan. Pilots are just one step away from going front line from here. This is what all those years of training and hard work is leading up too. How proud to know that they will be part of defending our skies.

Well these are Hawk T2 and are the upgrade to what the Reds use which is the Hawk T1. The Hawk T1 is technically retired but has been allowed in service exclusively for the Red Arrows
