MERCI

I saw it live. I thought it worked exceptionally well. Witty, with dancing...but also (as is evidenced by this excerpt) touching, vulnerable...a fantastic experience.
@@slesscovell6719 it was a modern production, very deftly directed by Richard Jones, until the final scene, which was completely botched. The entire story is about returning to marital love and meaningful relationship after going to a fantasy island of extramarital sex and multiple lovers. Of course that’s not something Jones can accept, so he made the ending a twist where everyone got given a copy of the joy of sex which makes a mockery of the entire plot. I think Alcina survives too! other than that, it was very good
Talented though Oropesa is, this aria is pushing her to the limit. A lot of out of tune singing, snatched breaths, moments where the voice is out of control (like the beginning of dacapo repeat). She seems more comfortable in later repertoire. In contrast, Fleming sings with a gigantic vocal surplus, and so can go incredibly deep into the character.

In what key is this aria?
E le parole di questa aria...
Love her! But I prefer Flemings version.
