  • Manderston House in the Scottish Borders town of Duns was used for the interiors of the Trenchard and Brockenhurst homes in the Julian Fellowes drama Belgravia. Money was no object for the original owner, nouveau riche baronet Sir James Miller, who had it built in 1905. This house is incredible! Take a look at the silver-plated staircase, which features on-screen, as well as the ballroom, the bedrooms and the servants’ quarters downstairs. Thanks to Cynthia Edwards and Paul Sutton, who showed us around, and shared stories from the set - including a spooky tale about a bell that rings in the middle of the night - and to Debbie Sutton for the delicious lunch! The house was also used for scenes in Outlander S6 (more on that to follow!), The Awakening starring Dominic West, and Netflix sequel The Princess Switch: Switched Again.

The lady tour guide is very engaging - it would have been interesting to hear the whole tour.

The late Lord Palmer was so mean he even tried to charge an entry fee to the house to the couple who had spent hundreds of hours restoring the silver staircase voluntarily . This was after this massive job had been completed. So ungrateful. So typical of his class.
