Hello fellow ohioan! I completely agree. I'm honestly surprised the wage has increased that much since I moved to florida. When I left, minimum wage was 9 dollars an hour for non tipped employees. Here in Florida, there's at least no state tax. But the minimum wage is also 13 an hour for non tipped. Personally I'm so glad I made the move. Ohio is special. Ohio state, the rock and roll hall of fame, cedar point and the bengals are the only redemption for ohio. 😂 but to be fair, the snow is pretty. 😂😂😂

That, should be illegal. Do you know where tipping comes from in America? It's from the great depression, there are videos on it. Before the depression it was considered in American.
It’s really heartbreaking to see how inflation and recession impact low-income families. The cost of living keeps rising, and many struggle just to meet basic needs, let alone save or invest. It’s a reminder of the importance of finding ways to create financial opportunities. You've helped me a lot sir Brian! Imagine i invested $50,000 and received $190,500 after 14 days
Some persons think inves'tin is all about buying stocks; I think going into the stock market without a good experience is a big risk, that's why I'm lucky to have seen someone like mr Brian C Nelson.
This is the very reason I never tip with a card. I'm a general tipper and I want the person that served me to get the full benefit of the tip. Hell I've already paid tax on that money when I earned it.
I watched this video on pepperbox when it first came out and I immediately wanted to see your reaction to it. I've never worked a tipped job so I wanted to hear your side of it. Thank you for everything you are and are doing! 💜
"So well educated, you're detached from the rest of normal society for so long..." Thats absolutely a thing. The only issue with that statement, is the "so long" part. Because today people have no life experience before they go to college. Then they're trained to believe you can learn life from reading or online.
I had a buddy who sold a certain plant way back in the day, and he was a server. He always OVER reported his cash tips, kinda to a comical degree, to basically launder his income from his other... business.
I haven't filled out a physical paper for a while now, but I swear there's a line in there which is almost entirely for "income you don't want to tell me about"
One of the big issues with all these opposition references, and not to get political... But all these flooded the media after Trump announced his plan to not tax tips, and they came out before Harris copied the plan. So all the opposition wasn't merited opposition to the idea, but manufactured opposition to the man...
I'm not now(still work a good bit of overtime though which is another tax cut proposal that Trump supports that I like, getting rid of overtime taxes) but worked retail for 3 years before that, from 2020-23, and we had a policy of not allowing tips(I like an idiot actually followed it) and trying to make ends meet was a nightmare to begin with, even before this inflationary period and I lived in Texas which doesn't have an income tax. The economists think that people who already are super underwater should have to pay a crapton of money on their main source of income too? Just another example of them being out of touch with regular people.
"2009 The federal minimum wage hasn't increased since 2009 “Nowhere in the US can a full-time worker meet their basic needs on the federal minimum wage.” According to the Consumer Price Index, the spending power of one dollar in 2024 is only 70% of what it was in 2009 when the federal minimum wage last went up."" I absolutely agree with Nic and by extension with you on this point. I'm a delivery driver for Papa John's. I work over 40 hours a week. My BIweekly paycheck is usually less than 400 dollars. I depend on my tips to get by.
Illegal to shoot whales from the back of a pickup truck is Oklahoma... no, there has never been a reason for this law, Oklahoma is completely landlocked...
In the state of NC, it is "illegal" to PERFORM oral on someone (male/female) and the only time you hear it being "enforced" is often in relationship to OTHER charges such as prostitution, or sex trafficking or harassment cases. So, while the act is considered "illegal", NOBODY is actually enforcing that sort of law UNLESS connected to something else.
I work in government travel, and I process travel authorizations and vouchers. Our policy is to reimburse all tips to 20% of the base rate (for meals and taxi and other tippable expenses) Anything over comes out of the pocket of our government employees.
Also maybe there's not a lot of tipped employees because they are taxed. "Great now I have to do TWO kinds of income tracking, instead of one!" You used to tip EVERY profession, just only when they did well. Tipped jobs aren't screwed. Tipped jobs are contractors. They are doordash drivers between kitchen and table instead of kitchen and customer's home. The kitchen staff are employees. Waiters get no benefits and work for tips, but they can also just not show up if they don't want to, because they get paid in tips. Knew one lady, was a bartender at 3 places. Showed up to whichever one was busiest each day.
YEARS of service meant I REMEMBER that $ was the GAS money to get home after shift SO I used to tip my Chinese Food delivery driver $40 per week because she was out delivering food on Saturday night at 22:00 aka 10pm with a BABY safety seat in the back seat NOT because she liked getting out of the house....turns out she HOARDED all of those tips then paid her tuition to become a HAIRDRESSER & ETHETICS PROFESSIONAL....TIPS make a MEANINGFUL contribution EH!🍁🍁🍁🍁
I always tip if I'm going out to eat. If I have bad service, the tip is exactly $0.02. I literally give the server my two cents as to what I thought of the job they did. I don't often have enough money to tip lavishly, but I do at least try to give what I can afford and always in cash.
You need to remember what the acronym TIPS stands for. TIPS stands for To Insure Prompt Service. It isn't part of the server's payroll. It is a reward to them for providing excellent service. Cooks and cleaning staff all get paid more than servers because they don't get tips. I always carry cash to TIP my server in cash that they get to take home that day rather than putting it on the card and wonder if the company is even going to give the server the TIP. Companies are getting carried away with TIPping though. When I go in a place, use a tablet to place my order and then it appears on the counter in front of me and the tablet then asks for a TIP (for what?). It is a gift to them for doing a good job and the government should keep their hands off them. You mentioned those crazy laws in some states. Where I'm from, it is illegal for a woman to sit on a man's lap without a pillow between them while riding a horse only on Sundays. Every other day of the week is OK.
We have a some weird laws here in Missouri too, 2 of which involving bears: you can't bear wrestle(passed in 2017) and you can't drive around with an uncaged bear. I don't know why either of these is necessary but okay.
An easier change to implement would just be to increase the standard deduction. Introducing a new 'tax free' income category would inflate the number of people using 'tips' as a tax dodge, where just increasing the standard deduction would benefit lower income earners the same way - making more of their wages not taxed.
I really want to support this. I think that the No Tax on Tips proposal was made in good faith. Helping the middle class, working class and the poor requries more long-term solutions and structural reform than No Tax on Tips. This may be a band-aid solution Tipping should not be a thing. If a business or industry cannot pay their workers a decent wage without tips than they should not exist. Tipping is not very common outside of America and yet the same industries, that exist on tips in the US, also exist without tips outside of the US. So it can be done. If you introduce a tax-free option into the tax code CEOs, billionaires and Wall Street will change their contracts so that their bounses will be counted as 'tips'. Rich people will not go: "oh well this tax cut is not for me. I might as well be taxed". To summarily disregard that consern indecates that you may not understand rich peoples desire to not may their fair share.
I am a bit skeptical of the no tax on tips policy. Even if it is passed into law, you'll likely still have to declare it as income, even if not taxable. There is no guarantee that it won't be repealed in the next administration. This is dangerous, because now the IRS knows how much taxable tip income everyone will have, and will audit anyone that declares less than the years prior.
I'm Dyslexic and my math skills SUCK. When I tip, I tip based on service and attitude and I've left 1 for 1 tips sometime. Why not? You are working as hard to get it as I am to get it. Trouble is over the last 10 years the attitude of most people in the service industry here in my city has been warped by this new woke BS so to many young people now are allowed to think of the Customer as a nascence's you must put up with to get paid. Or they auto take tips based on what I spend and so I refuse to pay twice. The sooner we get back to "The Customer is always right" the better. Yes, some are idiots or a$$holes but,,, Lifes a ext ext. I'm 110% for No Tax on Tips.
