You know something Jordan said that I’ve been pondering on is making sure it’s enjoyable, I absolutely love deer hunting and for the longest time I couldn’t fathom not going. But this year after being skunked last year and some frustrating outings this, I nearly crumbled. I almost said forget it, but then I got my first die, then my biggest buck ever and I got that euphoria of the breakthrough and realized that there’s almost nothing I wouldn’t go through to see a deer on the ground. I do love it and it brings me joy. I appreciate the fact that something like this can bring me joy. I hope that as an age I will have the wisdom to preserve the joy.
Man i love you guys yall have the greatest relationship. My daughter just doesn't get into hunting however she did promise me she would go over Thanksgiving break. I'm more excited for that than the bow opener!😊
For sure Josh. Our kids weren't (and still aren't) hard-core hunters so it is key to keep it fun (and warm) for her. Ground blinds are perfect for that. Good luck to you both.
Great strategy video Bill, anticipation continues to build!! Went on a doe mission amd saw 2 of the top bucks on the farm locked on does, what a sight to get to experience. The second one just walked in and slotted in between doe and 2yr old buck less than 50yds from me. Very lucky to have these experiences on a smaller farm
Hope you get that “Bill Buck” ! Either Jordan or Bill can harvest that buck ! Really enjoy listening to you both laughing and discussing the strategy going forward. Wishing you both the very best and Happy Thanksgiving!
Appreciate the great experience, perspective and information. Of course the father daughter element is so rich. That is a blessing. I was working today and 4 buck, 2 very nice buck we have no history with, were tending & contending for a hot doe at our place. My daughters went out and got as close as 30 yards and just enjoyed watching them. The dinner topic was buzzing with each person's experience. Good stuff.
Great intel! Enjoy watching you share your tips with us along with your daughter. She keeps us on our toes. Sat for the whole 10 day gun season in mn and saw 1 target buck for 2 second in the fog. Lots and lots of packs of fawns and no real mature does wandering
I will always take the 12-24th (give or take a day or two) over the first 12 days of November bc I’ve just killed and seen a lot more solid bucks from the 12th on. We have some bow only counties and I really envy their ability to bow hunt the whole way through Nov-Dec
Once again just great tips. And it’s always fun having Jordan back. It’s all the warm climate trips. Gotta send yourself to Alaska or something to get acclimated 😆. Nahhh totally understand. Keep the passion
Yes Sir. Strange year for sure. Didn't see any daytime rut activity here in the east. Shot 1 of my 5.5 yo by himself in food plot morning nov 8th. But I did see a lot of nighttime chasing in cameras. Only thing on my end that I can figure was warmer temps but also a massive acorn drop in my area. And Bill the deer are absolute hammering the sorghum!
A good way to get out in the evening is to have someone ride in on a four wheeler or truck or whatever, just to kinda push the deer out of the field without actually being spooked by a human. They encounter vehicles all the time, so that doesn’t seem to permanently scare them off in my experience.
Something I've found amazing talking to hunters who filled a tag in the first part of the rut. Many only saw the buck they took while hunting. Didn't talk to anyone who saw the buck parades or a lot of chasing. Are deer numbers are down, but still found this unusual.
This is what I’ve experience this year too. I have yet to see a buck chasing. Cruising some, but not like other years. I’ve hunted WV mountains for forty years and have never seen anything like this year. I’m sure the severe drought and lack of access to water and the record breaking heat has a lot to do with it. Even the road kills are way down from what I’ve seen. It’s just been a strange year.
Ted from the hunting public killed a huge eight. Had seen a nice deer before then while waiting to go find his deer a small buck and a huge 10 point with double brow tones and extra eye guard points 17 or 18 points. Only hunt I've seen with a lot of big bucks. Good hunt. Hopefully Bill gets one. Bill hints really careful. Sometimes you have to be aggressive.
Quite the opposite for me. I killed mine November 7th and saw another shooter that same day, a third buck that would have been a shoot had he not last his whole left side to fighting. I missed 2 different ones the day prior at a different property, saw a shooter cruising a third property on November 4th. Had a shooter get my wind before I could draw on him Nov 2nd at the property I wound up shooting one. November 1 saw the buck I later killed around 5 pm. October 25 the buck I later killed ran by me at 25 dogging a doe and had that same day had 2 more shooters on camera under a stand at a different property working scrapes. I personally saw a ton of buck activity on multiple properties and it seemed to shut down (camera-wise) on November 9.
Weather and EHD has many of us down here in lower IA scratching our heads as to what do we chase now that our #1’s may have bought the farm from disease. I talk to many buck killers here on public. Not many were put in the back of the truck so far. I’m recalibrating and looking forward to better weather starting Friday for the tail end of the rut. Truth be told MY favorite time of the season before gun begins. Stay positive and keep hunting folks, it ain’t over till it’s over…
Good words Steven. As Good as southern Iowa is, the biggest problem down there compared to northern Iowa is the unpredictable occurrence of EHD. Usually it is minor but occasionally it can really crash the buck numbers. I lived through 3 hits in my 25 years of living and hunting down there. Only one was really bad. Good luck.
In SW WI we got 4 straight days of rain and then high 30 mph winds during the core of the pre-rut and beginning of the rut. There is evidence to show that the smaller bucks chasing does play a role in stimulating the chances of a doe going into estrus. Sheep and goat herders introduce young rams into the herd to increase the estrus of the sheet/female goats. The weather prevented a lot of chasing from happening. I believe the 2nd rut is going to be a big opportunity for more than normal does that go into estrus. December 1-6 could be really good! Good luck Bill and Jordan!
Studies/historical data counters your thoughts. The rut still happens within the same time period every year with roughly the same percent of does being bred. The intensity or daylight activity may vary but the does still get bred. The weather is going to get more deer killed as they have already started hitting food big time around here (central MN). You may see "more" rutting activity due to the open does coming into/back into estrus and being congregating on food. With the weather predictions they will be out early and often to feed. My trail cams on standing beans have absolutely exploded in the last 5 days with a bunch of new bucks mainly in a feeding pattern with a little chasing (at least in front of the camera).
@@wcb5890 Yes, the rut is the same every year, but I can assure you that young bucks chasing does or the lack thereof due to the changes during "the typical rut" year to year influences the number of does that actually go into estrus. As Bill indicated, this is a strange year. The idea that the rut is exactly the same every year is too simplistic. Variance is science too. There is a reason the 2nd rut is more prolific in some years than others. Time will tell.
Definitely has been an interesting slow season. Have only encountered one shooter this season. Been seeing mainly does & real young bucks. Got a cold front coming through here in indiana this weekend finally. Good luck!
Almost didn’t hunt this afternoon, in Delaware temps got up to 65 today. But I had a great wind and nothing else to do…3:30pm a nice 7 pointer I passed up earlier like 2 weeks ago was cruising the thicket, then last light another smaller buck I think a 6 pointer popped out. Saw 3 fawns too, idk I think I’m gonna give up trying to figure out these deer lol
Me too. You can only go by trends and play the odds. As soon as you think you have this figured out, the rules change and they are playing chess again while you are still playing checkers. Good luck.
Bill, I hunt in central Missouri. Opening weekend gun was the 16th. I witnessed 8 doe and 2 average 8 pointers all in a field feeding. The bucks showed no interest in the does. They did spar for a minute and went back to feeding. What are your thoughts on our rut? We had a low kill count for the weekend per Mo. Conservation due to acorn crop and warm weather.
I read somewhere that we have a better chance of killing a big buck during the 2nd rut because all of the young bucks are spent. What's your opinion on this, please.
Yea massive acorns crop 80 temps last oct thru two wks nov hunting been horrible here in nc and edge va plenty of scrapes few fawns during day that's it
Daylight movement for mature bucks has definitely ramped up in the last few days. They seem to get less stressed out by being nearer to roads also. Just what I’ve seen.
I think the 2nd half can be better than the 1st part, a lot of young bucks chasing and pestering does early but haven't seen any big bucks plus it's been very warm here in Oklahoma so that's definitely not helping. I saw the 1st mature bucks Sunday morning following a doe, not chasing just walking about 50 yards behind her, then a few minutes later he came back and headed back to the bottom he came from. This coming week is when I start seeing mature bucks chasing does and just out looking. Cold front coming so hopefully big boys become more visible.
Hey Bill, hope all is well with you and your family,I have 2 questions for you if you could answer, question #1 what was the name of the camo you wear? Question #2 I always wear a facemask because I always thought a deer could see the "shine" of your face if it isn't covered and I watch a lot of your videos and I don't think I ever saw you wearing one.im not trying to insult you but I'm asking this question from a hunter's perspective.thanks for the information you put on TH-cam and hope you and your family have a good thanksgiving and a merry Christmas.
Mi: all rifle camps have said the same thing. No bucks. Lots of fawns and does. I'm climbing back in the stand tonight. Hoping this week straightens out a bit. Hopefully we don't have to wait until Dec. 1, second rut.
I do think October is the better time. I am not sure if it always was, probably. We just never hunted it that much - at we hunted it wrong. That last week of October can be really good if the weather is cool. Good luck.
I think it still makes sense if you have the patience. Once we get to around November 26, or so, it might make sense to sit near food in the afternoon. Good luck.
I did not experience any decrease in activity, I’m a weekend hunter due to work but I seen a ton of the post 3 weekends young and mature bucks, I assume next weekend it will have to slow down.
Good video ! I live in central MS what's a good time of day I should have a better chance to see a buck moving ? I don't get but a few pics during the day but when rut hits nothing during the day mostly night pics. Give me your opinion thanks
Richard, doe bedding for sure. Active scrapes only if you feel that a buck you would shoot is in that area. The scrapes are probably not as good for attracting bucks at this time as they were in late October, however. Good luck.
Weather has been really bad for hunting, SE OH here. We typically get your weather 10-12 hours later. I’ve seen the same things this year. Very low amount of daylight movement. I know you talked about the idea of using an RC car to clear your field before you exit the blind. Maybe you could have set a drone up far enough away to connect to it by remote and fly it over. Just a thought. Good luck, I’ve been following and looking forward to seeing you kill the “Jordan Bill Buck”
@ it really has been bad for more than just hunting. My neighbors are having to haul water for their cattle every day due to the extreme drought. Later this week is shaping up for good hunting weather. Good luck to you.
Hunted opening day in Missouri Saturday. Expected to hear the barrage of shots I usually hear in wisconsin. Hardly heard a shot. Can’t wait for wisconsin this Saturday. Different feeling gun hunting up there
Ive seen less rutting activity this year then any other year, no chasing or crusing. Maybe its just me and picking the wrong stands but my cameras have been extremely slow compared to previous years.
I got one I seen three yrs ago why did I see him the 3rd year not the other 2. He was tall 3’ rack but no spread now he’s over 3’ and got a great spread and huge mass. I know it’s high tower that’s what I named him he’s a record any thoughts about whare he went the last three yrs and why he’s back. And he seen me but not close i hunt on 100 acres will he be back on the hundred acres or is my hope done. I’m no pro I’m still trying to learn any advice is greatly appreciated. Ps we have a marsh on our land the county owns no hunting it’s between 2 lakes and has artesian wells. Deer literally live on our land witch does make it tricky to hunt the big bucks as well
Brandon, I wish I knew the answer to that question. Some bucks just relocate for no apparent reason. Something triggers it, but I don't know what that is. Probably something related to food, cover or even pressure (human or otherwise). I am just glad he came back for you. Good job and congrats!
The deer on the public I'm hunting have seemed to disappear. I know that there has been pressure. But I'm hunting in spots I've not seen other hunters and my cameras have still been dead for nearly a week or more. It's very weird.
That is also what I am seeing both on my cameras and in the field below my yard here at home. They are out there all year long every day except these past few days.
I actually tracked my daylight buck pics over the past 12 years and created graphs that depict the movement bell curves for peak rut days and peak rut times. On my channel. If you are curious- thanks,
@ you bet- it basically shows peak daylight movement for bucks 2 YO and older is that Halloween thru Nov. 9th. Then really drops off as they go into lockdown. More of a rut funnel geared project (cameras were in heavy cover off of the food).
Bill, you know Fatty is still roaming close by. My guess is he’ll show up late season in those food plots. I still feel you’re going to get a crack at him before the season is over.
Weather, moon, and rut phase I think we’re all contributing factors. Cold front coming this week so fingers crossed it gets better. Good luck out there!
Only a thought🤣 Maybe the Older bucks are waiting for them first year fawn does cycling for the very first time. Not their first rodeo aka divorces analogy
I am going to keep calling it the Jordan Buck. Has a very historical ring to it given the world record typical for a very long time was shot by Jim Jordan. Have a great day.
@ I figured it was named after your daughter and she thought it should be named after you instead since you’re more than likely the one that will get him! She made me laugh though. Good luck in the next couple of weeks!
I wish the fat buck was around. I have not gotten any sign of him since early October and then he was a mile from his normal core - I think he was relocating off the farm. Have a great day.
The “rut” and ANY daylight movement is over in NY after the orange army firing squad erupted Saturday. MAYBE in a few weeks/month they’ll be comin to the food during daylight. 🫤

You guys are a joy to listen to and I really appreciate the insight into buck movement post peak rut. Thanks much.
Thanks Edward and good luck.
Stumbled across your channel and love it. The content and delivery is great! I have learned a lot. Thank you!
She’s back! Getcha one girl! We’re cheering!
The episode I've been waiting for! Didn't get one early rut, so I was anxiously awaiting your advice for the second half. You delivered again!
Thanks for the comment Dan. I think there are a lot of people in that boat this year - myself included. Good luck in the next couple weeks.
Bill, love seeing you and Jordan together again, also bucks are just like men throughout our lives, ironic and alot of similarities!!😆😂🤣
Man i love you guys yall have the greatest relationship. My daughter just doesn't get into hunting however she did promise me she would go over Thanksgiving break. I'm more excited for that than the bow opener!😊

Thanks Peter. Much appreciated. Have a great day and good luck to you too.

Great video you guys!
Fun to watch but glad I’m done. 🏹🏹🦌🦌. Hunted last 3 weeks solid. Retired and have the time. 👍🙏

Sat for the whole 10 day gun season in mn and saw 1 target buck for 2 second in the fog. Lots and lots of packs of fawns and no real mature does wandering
Thanks Josh. It was like that hear too. Almost all does were holed up from about November 3 onward. Good luck.
Love the Hunting Bill. Always dream Big
Man what a great video for info. It's so interesting on the way the breading cycle takes place in different areas of the country
Thanks Josh for the comment. Good luck to you.

I picked up a code of silence jacket on sale and it’s awesome. Thanks for telling us about them Bill
They really are nice and a good value. Have a great day.

The Weather's been so mild here in Michigan. Hopefully our coming weekends cold snap will get these bucks moving again.
A good way to get out in the evening is to have someone ride in on a four wheeler or truck or whatever, just to kinda push the deer out of the field without actually being spooked by a human. They encounter vehicles all the time, so that doesn’t seem to permanently scare them off in my experience.
The jokes at 7:00 were great! 😂 Keep it coming!
Bill, great video, timely information! Jordan, your personality is beginning to come out. Wonderful to see, genuine and warm!
Thanks for the comment. We both appreciate the kind words and the support. Have a great day.
Bill Great Job buddy! I enjoyed the vid! Great Content!
My local outdoor store just started carrying Code of Silence apparel in store, and man that stuff is nice!!
Good to see you back young lady, now show them how to do it lol.
I just knocked down my target Saturday evening, if you got the does the 2nd half can be good, keep after it Bill and Jordan!
Got mine sat evening too after all that wind died down

It was 70⁰ during peak chasing. They chased at night @@RS-ms1bz

I see fewer bucks late November but they tend to be the bigger ones that were nocturnal early on
That is what I have seen and what I am hoping. Thanks for the comment and good luck.
Tough season for me here in Western PA as well .Archery season ends here Friday ,then the orange army invades next Saturday. Good luck !
Thanks and I appreciate the comment and support. Good luck to you also.

It’s like you read my mind. I was wondering about the second half. Got one I’m hoping makes a mistake.
Stick with it. This time frame can be very good. Good luck.
Good luck Bill and Jordan!
Bill, any tips or advice on what kind of spots you would set your trail cameras up on for late Nov early Dec?
I think the 2nd half can be better than the 1st part, a lot of young bucks chasing and pestering does early but haven't seen any big bucks plus it's been very warm here in Oklahoma so that's definitely not helping. I love the Jordan Buck, Bill Buck. Maybe Billy Buck nah how about JB Buck
lol enjoy your interaction/ jokes 😅

I think the full moon messed us up as well. Saw bucks running at night in the headlights.
For the 2024 season in southeastern pa they were rutting pretty good in early oct this yr. which is not the nor. Food for thought
I do think October is the better time. I am not sure if it always was, probably. We just never hunted it that much - at we hunted it wrong. That last week of October can be really good if the weather is cool. Good luck.
Hope it’s good because I still need to fill my tag!
You and me both. Good luck.
Sounds like u might wanna try some rattling Bill. Good luck
I think I will try a bit of rattling this coming week. Good luck.
Thanks Bill. Do you still like to sit during the middle of the day during the later part of the rut?
I think it still makes sense if you have the patience. Once we get to around November 26, or so, it might make sense to sit near food in the afternoon. Good luck.
@bill-winke Thanks Bill!
Can we please get some major cold fronts?
Very slow this year think the warm weather and timing of full moon this year
I do think the weather was a definite factor. Overall, it wasn't bad here in Iowa, but I know it was warmer in a lot of other areas. Good luck.
I did not experience any decrease in activity, I’m a weekend hunter due to work but I seen a ton of the post 3 weekends young and mature bucks, I assume next weekend it will have to slow down.
Something tells me Jordan will be one who keeps the heat at 72+ in the winter time.
Yes, I have to set it back down every time she visits. Have a great day.
Good video ! I live in central MS what's a good time of day I should have a better chance to see a buck moving ? I don't get but a few pics during the day but when rut hits nothing during the day mostly night pics. Give me your opinion thanks
Southeast virginia is in full lock down at the moment
Bill are you hunting any doe bedding or active scrapes right now?
Richard, doe bedding for sure. Active scrapes only if you feel that a buck you would shoot is in that area. The scrapes are probably not as good for attracting bucks at this time as they were in late October, however. Good luck.
Young does and food. Make the first week of December like Christmas
I hope so. Good luck to you. Have a great day.

Just a thought. Good luck, I’ve been following and looking forward to seeing you kill the “Jordan Bill Buck”
I'm in southeastern ohio it's been the worst I've seen in a long time got some crazy weather coming this week so hopefully that will help
@ it really has been bad for more than just hunting. My neighbors are having to haul water for their cattle every day due to the extreme drought. Later this week is shaping up for good hunting weather. Good luck to you.
Are you able to hunt the scrape tree area in an open air stand set? That valley looks like a difficult location to hunt with swirling winds.
Only on a north wind blowing right down the valley.
@@bill-winkeThanks for the reply. Makes perfect sense! Good luck the rest of the year!!
The deers can hide all they want this weekend in wisconsin cause the orange army is going to rock the whole state!!!
Hunted opening day in Missouri Saturday. Expected to hear the barrage of shots I usually hear in wisconsin. Hardly heard a shot. Can’t wait for wisconsin this Saturday. Different feeling gun hunting up there
😊
Y’all pray for me I’m on Plan E&F right now even got J cookin the books right now 😂😢😅😭✝️🌪️⛈️🌊☠️
Not sure what Jordan is studying, but stand-up comedy might be in her future.
I agree. She is a very good graphic designer and when she is not working for me, that is what she does. Have a great day.
Ive seen less rutting activity this year then any other year, no chasing or crusing. Maybe its just me and picking the wrong stands but my cameras have been extremely slow compared to previous years.
It has been a weird year. My farm was better this year than last year. But last year was so bad that is not a hard thing. Good luck.
DREAM BIG BROTHER 🙏 😊
One thing I didn't like that she said was I'll start hunting when it's time to hunt blinds, because it's easier. Deer hunting isn't easy young woman
Is this weekend too late for this hopefully later movement?
No. It should still be the same behavior. Good luck.
@ thank you!
The deer on the public I'm hunting have seemed to disappear. I know that there has been pressure. But I'm hunting in spots I've not seen other hunters and my cameras have still been dead for nearly a week or more. It's very weird.
Same. Last 4 days I haven't got any deer on cam. The 13th I got 4 bucks on cam. After that...nothing
That is also what I am seeing both on my cameras and in the field below my yard here at home. They are out there all year long every day except these past few days.
I actually tracked my daylight buck pics over the past 12 years and created graphs that depict the movement bell curves for peak rut days and peak rut times. On my channel. If you are curious- thanks,
I will check it out. Thanks. Can you give the viewers a quick summary of what you found? Thanks.
I sure hope so. I like that chubby fellow and would love to see what he looks like now. I bet he has lost some weight. Have a great day.
Almost 30k decrease on rifle harvests opening weekend. Definitely slow movement around here.
Do you think it was the weather?
Everyone is complaining that deer movement is bad.
Weather, moon, and rut phase I think we’re all contributing factors. Cold front coming this week so fingers crossed it gets better. Good luck out there!
Only a thought🤣
Maybe the Older bucks are waiting for them first year fawn does cycling for the very first time. Not their first rodeo aka divorces analogy
I have a solution. He can be called the Bill Jordan buck😂
Can we get the post joke drum beat edited in next time. Badump bump
Yes, I will add that to Jordan's dialog on every episode. Thanks for the support Kevin. Good luck.
Just start calling it the “bill jordan realteee buck” lol
That is actually funny. Thanks for the comment.
pls let Jordan shoot a buck already. She can fill my tag at this point.
He’d be more than happy to let me shoot my pick of bucks, I’m the one who hasn’t gotten out much! I’ll start again here soon though.
Bill Buck lol
I am going to keep calling it the Jordan Buck. Has a very historical ring to it given the world record typical for a very long time was shot by Jim Jordan. Have a great day.
@ I figured it was named after your daughter and she thought it should be named after you instead since you’re more than likely the one that will get him! She made me laugh though. Good luck in the next couple of weeks!
How many viewers think he should leave ' Jordans' buck alone?? Help her get 'Her' buck. Go after Fatso.
