I'm so thankful that you and so many other people made videos for this. Watching multiple techniques helped a lot. The hardest part truly is getting the dang case open. It turned out 3 of the back tabs had snapped off making it near impossible to get the back open. After wresting with it for actual hours I finally got it almost there and then just gave it a hard yank and it separated. I hope I never have to open it again :D. Good news is, even with my lack of solder skills, it's not hard to just heat that ball off it pretty much just rolled into my trash can and then I kept applying more heat to make sure it was completely off the contacts and I was nervous after putting it back together (I tested before putting the case back on) but it worked!! Thanks so much!
Nice I could rescue my console. The laser was not tweakable anymore. The lens looked dull. I stole the Laser from my old benq vad6038 drive from my years ago broken 360 and replaced it in my Liteon 16d2s drive of my actual console. Both drives used the exact same laser and looked identical inside. Thank you very much for the tutorial. My 360-phat Falcon console is now ready to go again.
Any reasons that this wouldn't work after replacement, I removed the solder ball, no bridged points. It will almost immediately come back to open tray now. Before it would only ready cd discs no DVDs.
I am sure I am just stupid, but with this fix mine. My disc spins as soon as the tray closes, and then stops spinning, and every time it does that, unless I beat the hell out of the system.

So you don’t test it first with a multimeter? What about greasing the rails(especially after cleaning the rail and worm gear)?

Yep!

Why don't they put some tape instead of solder? It was a real pain, it's so small.
By the way, thanks a lot, that was very helpful!
Great video
No need calibration, pot tweak?
I've never needed to.
