    26 persons turned their screen so they could give another thumbs up.Although, this is a ridiculous amount of work for a scene, imagine having to work with 4K 120 image per seconds footage, it kills.Thanks for all the awesome videos, it is really short, clear, and well explained.You guys give me the envy to do more professional videos.

    @Francisco Carino. I cant reply to your comment directly so I guess you wont read this... We do explain how to go about this in the video. You can create a second mask so you can add the saber on to either side of your leg, or you can put another layer of footage on top of it and just mask the shape of your leg out.

      ***** If there is a body part that it goes behind like at 2:20, and it pokes out the other side you have 2 options. You can either create two masks (one for the bit where it comes out the handle and the other for it coming out from behind you) or you can create one long mask and then put another layer on top of the original footage and make a mask around the body part covering the sabre. That's what I would do. Hope that helps, it's hard to explain

    At least in America, it is. Not sure about Britain. You're from Britain, right? I mean, here our television is set at 23.97 fps for whatever reason, so yours might be different.

      I am using the Ryan Weiber version, which uses a white shape mask for the saber. I've done a ton of work. Hope it's not in vain.

      Roto brush tool sounds interesting. I am finding that the mask does not provide a nice looking "bleeding" effect of the light over the top layer.

    HELP!?! So there's a section in my video where the lighsaber is deactivated, which I have to opacity on all of the blade layers to zero. It then glides a cross the scene invisibly to the point where it comes back in. Once I precomp the blade layers, the mask is slightly visible when it shouldn't be. Thoughts?

    How do you create the second mask? I'm having trouble with that, it won't work for me.

    • @crivyeller9845
      @crivyeller9845 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It took me a little while to figure it out, go to your pen tool (G) and just click on the area u want to mask, then create more points. It will automatically create a new mask layer under the masks tab with a new color

    Hey! I have been trying to make a lightsaber dual video and I did everything in the video, but after I finish the outline the lightsaber the white solid moves to the left on every frame anyone know how to help?

    • @crivyeller9845
      @crivyeller9845 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's possible that you did a mask later in the vid and your current point(s) are trying to map itself onto that mask. You can use this to your advantage by skipping frames, cuz when you do, the points try to guess the next outline of the skipped frame, thus, an auto outline.

    Question. When editing a short film with lightsabers, is it best to edit the whole film in FCP 7 and then add the lightsaber glow effect in AE? Or add glow effects to each video and then finish editing film in FCP7?

    • @magmarok8209
      @magmarok8209 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d say add the effects minus color grating to the final project file since it’s less work to add to a finished thing.

      I'm not quite sure what your problem is so I'll give multiple solutions to different problem.
      ---The Mask is being applied to the white solid layers you make. It is NOT APPLIED to the footage layer that you are using as a guide to know where to place the masks.
      ---the masks need to be set to "add" so it reveals whatever is within it.
      ---If you are having trouble positioning and moving the mask around because everything is white, try making the white solid layer invisible while your working on it
      hope that one of those can help (even if it is 2 months late)

    Wouldn't it have made more sense to put tracking markers on the end of the saber, then used a tracker to move the solid for you, and just correct the areas where they go behind the guy? Would save alot of time and probably look just as good...

    • @KROMAprd
      @KROMAprd 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ComputersAreRealCool
      This is what I was thinking haha, tracking features (especially in the latest version of After Effects) are very useful and do a lot of the leg work for you. The way shown in this video can be very tedious, plus if you make one mistake you can end up having to redo the whole thing frame by frame again.
      But I guess this tutorial is for people new to After Effects.

    Everything work perfect, but when I place the lightsabre composition on top of the new composition everything is black... I cant see the white lightsabre at all.
    Also, if I try to export the lightsabre sequence it comes out black. I can see the lightsabre in the preview, but as soon as I press "render" all I get is black.

      Flawless Films Hello again. Seems "guide layers" was turned on on the white layers. Hence it wasnt included in other compositions or rendering. But thanks for the tutorial. Cheers guys. I subscribed .) Keep up the good work.
